Does anyone see a reason NOT to use these higher cold cranking amp batteries on a 2006 Royal Star Venture? (Except for them not being a local purchase) I'm in AZ and batteries don't last but 1.5 years. See the links below. Battery_#1 $ 79.99, 850 CCA. Battery_#2 $ 79.99, 850 CCA. Battery_#3 $ 94.99, 600 CCA. Battery_#4 $124.99, 680CCA Thanks.

Hi, I purchased a Battery Bug from Argus Analyzer and I wrote them an email yesterday with a question concerning my Battery Bug that I installed on my 04 RSV. Here is Jim's response. He responded within 24 hours of my initial question and the article he attached is that written by Stu Oltman, the editor of Wing World Magazine. I just had to share that with the good folks on the forum here. His timely response and the article he sent me answered all my questions and alleviated any of my worry or anxiety about the operation of the Bug. All in all I think they are great folks to deal with. I don't know how to attach a word doc or I would put it in here. I don't have a date for the month the evaluation was written up in Wing Word Magazine but I know Stu and he wrote an excellent review. Chris in Red Deer, Alberta Chris - Remember the ‘Bug is showing “Cranking Health” not the “Battery Life”. Think of Cranking Health as the battery’s ability to do its job of starting the engine. There are many factors affecting that ability. Chiefly - the SIZE of the battery. A tiny battery and a HUGE engine will give a low Cranking Health % even when the battery is new - because the battery will have a hard time cranking that engine. In addition – cold temperatures will affect cranking health in a negative way. Cold temps make it harder to crank the engine both because the battery is cold AND the engine oil is cold an sluggish. Remember also that the %-age on the display ONLY goes down. It is displaying the WORST start and therefore the number will never go up again. Expect the % cranking health displayed to steady itself after a few weeks, then slowly descend over time. Attached is an article that you might find interesting as well. I was looking at one of my street rod magazines today and came across this web site for hot rod batteries crystal cell technology??? http://www.hotrodbatteries.com/ One model (HRB 11) is even smaller (5.125 x 3.250 x 6.500) than the RSV battery(6.875" x 3.4375" x 6.125") with 375 cranking amps. Looks like the HRB 14 with 475 cranking amps would work too. They don't advertise the price so I'm sure it must be kind of high considering a 100% replacement five year warranty. Just thought I would through it out there for anyone who might be interested. If nothing else, I think I might look into one for my street rod.

I'd like to know how many of you have to choke their bike anytime it cools off? It can be in the 90's outside and I still have to pull the choke for a short period before riding. No problem cranking, it just won't idle without the choke until it's warmed up a little. Suggestions?????

Well, I got my Carbtune over the holidays and we had a really nice riding day last week. So I decided pull out the skoot, warm it up, sync the carbs and go for a ride. Alas, when I went to start it ...nothing. It would crank but not fire. I finally got one cylinder to fire so it would idle for a few seconds but that was it. I had bought a new battery in October, so I put it in just to make sure, but it cranks fine with about 12-12.5v during cranking. When I parked it last I had put Sea Foam in the tank, filled it up and rode it home to park it; that was about November 1. I'm hoping that the cursed 10% ethanol in MO isn't rearing it head, but that's what I suspect. Any thoughts? I'll load it up in the trailer and head over to the Yammy dealer to see what they think.
