I had a 2000 Venture and when it had about 80,000 miles Yamaha gave me a new set because of visible heat cracking......When I took them off they were still very smooth and no cracks showing on inside. The reason for this post is I have 93,000 on Midnight Venture with heat cracks showing on the outside......OK friends what the real deal here?...JK

I don't know if it is because of the shopping season or what but I am getting slammed with spammers trying to join the forum. I typically block about 4 or 5 a week but right now, I'm intercepting about 20 per day. They try to create bogus accounts, mostly using Gmail and a few Yahoo. I have a system in place that looks at several variables and automatically places suspect requests to join into a moderation hold. I then have to check them and determine if they are legit or spammers. It's not a bit deal but there are just a LOT lately. I hope that none slip through the cracks but if so, I will delete them as soon as I see them posting any trash. Please know that even if one slips through, they have no access to your email addresses or other personal information unless you have actually posted it. The members list and etc. are restricted to supporting members.

Last year a friend (still is) hit my right side saddle bag on my 2004 white venture r/s; I bought another one on this site and had it painted. Now this one has spider cracks and one bad crack at the rear. It has not been hit; don't know the problem but need another right side saddle bag. Anyone out there have one at a good price?

just received my new front and rear Venom X tires - the rear appears to have small cracks all around it (or maybe these are just molding marks?) - the date code is 4310, so they are fairly new? i've attached a pic - for those who have had this problem would you confirm that my tire needs to go back for replacement or should i mount it? TIA......

I know we've talked about this a bunch, but usually we're only talking about spot repair. I'm starting to get a bunch of cracks in the plastic of my fairings so I've decided that my winter project this year is to strip all the plastic off of the bike and reinforce it. I'm going to build up the areas that have cracks pretty good, but I want to also put a layer of fiberglass cloth all over the insides to add some strength. I've looked at Plastex, but dang it's going to be expensive to get enough for a project like this. Several on here have said not to use fiberglass resin, so what are my options? Will ABS cement work for this or do I need to look at something else? Thanks.

I did remove all 4 throttles on my -84 yesterday. Two of them had cracks near the end where the diaphragm is fitted. One seems to be glued together but the other one seems to be held together by the fitting for the diaphragm. Is this a common problem? I have searched the forum but did not fina any threads about his. Is the cracks from the plastic getting old or what could have happened? Anyhow; do any of you know where to by new throttles that are not oem? Or perhaps the oem part is affordable?

I think I've found my new (to me) RSV - its raspberry and champagne colors are beautiful, the frame is straight, the electronics all seem to work, and the finish is in perfect shape. It has Avon tires that I will double check for cracks, and a totaled rear shock. I will not accept the bike from the dealer as is, but is there something better than a Yamaha shock? Is there a major price difference? Should I insist on the aftermarket item, or is it just as good as the stock one. Anybody??????????

This rear tire gave an impressive 19,623.6 miles, as you see with the photos there were no cracks blemishes etc. Tire was made 08/08

My trunk lid (where the passenger backrest attaches to the lid) has significant cracking around all of the mounting bolts. The cracks have now progressed to the point where they are visible from the outside of the trunk lid. The cracks are in excess of 2"...so I don't believe a "repair" is an option. Probably will have to replace the lid to maintain the integrity and safety of the backrest. Should this be covered under warranty? If it IS repaired under warranty, any ideas on how I can prevent this in the future?

I know its been discussed here before but I am too lazy to search and really dont have the time to right now, I need to know what year rear box will fit and 83 without modification or maybe just a little of it. I have seen some 83-85 with an 86 box and wondering if its just a simple swap. After all my repair on mine some of the cracks have reappeared since they were repaired and repainted. I hate cracked plastic, and the bigger box would be nice also.

Just prior to leaving for Knoxville last w/e I noticed that a couple of my carb boots are cracked. I read in a similar post that they have a metal sleeve inside of them. Is this correct? If that is the case, do I not need to worry about the cracks or do I need to replace them? If so, where's the best place to get them other than the dealership? I don't relish the thought of tackling this one. It doesn't look fun. Any help, ideas, recommendations would be appreciated.

Was wondering if any of you have had this issue... i have a 2007 RSV I was looking at the bike last weekend and noticed the lower cowling on the Left side of the bike (as your sitting on it) was cracked in several places. ~2" long total, 2 or 3 cracks where the plastic screw in piece/protrusion joins the cowling. I took the cowling off and found the vent tube that is mounted near the back of the air intake was dripping oil down into the cowling. Not enought to have it run out the bottom of the cowling, but enought that it pooled a bit by the plastic mounting bracket on the cowling. The bracket/protrusion was broken clean off. So, couple of questions.. what is it venting and why would there be that much oil? I've had the bike for about a month, have had the cowling off to install some chrome, and this is the first time I've had oil leaking. The vent tube did appear to be butted square against the air intake (so it wasn't venting freely) if that make a difference... If the oil was sitting on the abs cowling, would that weaken the plastic enough to have normal vibration cause the cracks? I didn't drop it or bang it against anything, its almost as if the cracks came from stress of the cowling nuts being over tightened? Just to make it fun, the dealer was the last one to take the cowling off and re-install it. I'd appreciate any thoughts... Bob

Before I get started, I know that the unspoken rules dictate pictures, and as soon as I find where my 3 year old hid the memory card for the camera, I'll get some. Last Tuesday night, a co-worker of mine asked if I wanted a free bike. Of course, the proper response to this is "when and where do I need to pick it up?". Turns out a friend of his had a 1983 Honda GL650 Silverwing Interstate that had been sitting in his garage, and if nobody would pick it up, he was going to sell it for scrap!!! A few phone calls (and a bribe of gas money to a friend with a truck) later, I am now the proud owner of that bike! Well, my wife is. I told her to put her name on the title, and once I get it running and teach her to ride, it'll be all hers. Before I picked it up, I started feeling a bit guilty about getting such a find for free, so I called the guy and told him that I'd feel better if he'd at least let me pay him $100 to cover what he would have gotten for scrapping it. Of course, he agreed, but my wife wasn't too thrilled.. until she saw the bike. It's got just about every accessory you could think of, both saddlebags are there, trunk (with trunkrack), chrome rails all over the place, travelcade seat, and Markland backrest. Got it running yesterday, and with a new tire on the front and some cleaning of the carbs, should be road worthy in the next week or so. But of course with a new bike comes the questions, so here's what I got for all the great minds out there: 1) Gonna replace front tire. There's cracks and the valve stem leaks (visibly damaged). Anyone know where to get replacement valve stems? Also, I'm looking at Shinko for the front tire. Anyone have any experience with this brand? 2) My first bike was a 1981 GL500 Silverwing. It's what I learned to ride on, so the Silverwings have a special place in my heart and I'm therefore biased towards the branding. This bike is bigger than that one, so I'm a little concerned about this being my wife's first bike. She can stand Flat-footed on the bike, and she seemed comfortable with the weight. Should I be concerned anyway? I originally was going to rebuild an old XS750 for her, but many had voiced concerns over that particular bike being her first bike, and it needed WAY more work than I was willing to put into it, so I got rid of it. 3) In the off-chance that someone out there has a repair manual for this bike that they don't need anymore, I'd be willing to buy it off ya. would rather put some money in the pockets of my friends here than in the pockets of some faceless company out there. 4) Rear tire looks good, no visible cracks, holds air well, etc. what else should I be looking for to determine if I need to replace that tire as well? At any rate, I've gone on longer than I had originally planned, but I promise to get some pics for ya'll as soon as junior divulges his hiding places to me. Update: ok, found the memory card. it was in the fridge, right next to the stereo remote.

Hey All, TIRE CRACKS-ANYONE ELSE? I am just starting the riding season for 09. Checked the Avon Tires, and like last year, Weather Cracks all around the Rear Tire. Last year, it was weather cracks on both tires. I am Really Concerned considering that these New Tires were just made (not sitting in the warehouse) and shipped to the Bubbas for installation at this time last year. I just wrote Avon and waiting for a response. Bubbas in Linwood Michigan took Great Care of me last year with this problem, and after Avon verified the tire tread depth was way within the ratio, Avon admitted it was their fault, and paid for New Tires and Installation, but Blamed the Cracks on Tires sitting around to long in the Warehouse. The front and rear tires on my RSV now have a tremendous amount of tread left, almost like brand new. These Avons ware great. But, as much as I like these Avons, I am unsure if I should put another set back on. Everyone Please Check your Tires. Later-

Ok, I'm on a roll now. I been putting it off all winter and now the bike is close to being ready to ride and I am finding more things to mess with. I had my saddlebags and trunk down in my basement shop cleaning them up and installing new LED marker lights where the reflectors were. A little wiring, making bags liners for the bottom, just killing time. Now I got the polishing compound and the wax flying and I notice there are a few minor, very minor cracks in the bottom of the bags and at the back where the mounting studs are. If I press around them they show up pretty good when I put pressure around them other wise they are not much more than hair line. No biggie, I'll just run a bead of epoxy on the inside and tie them back together. Now I never noticed this before so maybe I'm not paying enough attention but when I opened the bags to look at the cracks from the inside they aren't there. Before I strip down the bag shells and remove the aluminum edging are these shells laminated or what? They don't appear to be two layers but cracked on one side and not the other? Not possible. There is no damage to the bags, just a few hairline cracks. I'd prefer not to make repairs to the outside until the day comes that I decide to do what minor body work needs to be done and do a new paint job. Stress cracks make me crazy.

Bikes coming along, seafoam and idle adjustment has is idleing with the choke off now. Bled all the hydraulics, rode it around the parking lot across from me, Felt good, not tippy and the weight didn't bother me at all. I have to get tires and 2 diaphragms for the wells on the bars. Its backfiring a little at idle, but seems to run good. Battery tender hooked up. What tires of these 3? Perrelli, Maxxis or Kenda? I felt no wobble and think I could ride it around a little to help get the carbs clean etc. But . the back tire has cracks inbetween every groove, on the outside where it meets the side wll sort of. There both Metzs and old so they gotta go.Thanks again guys and gals, everything Ive done so far I have gotten from you.

I was cleaning out the rear trunk the other day and noticed cracks in the ABS where 3 of the mounting bolts are located. Has anyone else had this problem and if yest any issues getting it replaced on warranty? Thanks

Since no-one seems to be happy with the the 09's. Maybe we could vote for the Admin. and Mon. to come up with a form letter that we could all print and sign and then send a mass mailing to Yamaha. We did this in Ohio because of what they were using to fill in the cracks on the roads. Made them very slippery when wet. Didn't do any good, but we all got responses back.

I've noticed that my bars are tad bent probably from the PO. I'm going to swap the inner fairing since mine has some cracks and figure this would be the best time to do the bars as well. If you've got one you don't need, could you let me know?
