This past Friday, I went out to pick up a plant that had fallen over, because it was getting a little windy. I noticed it was getting darker, so I went to close Moped's window on his car. We live on a heavily wooded lot. As I turned to go in the garage, I heard a big cracking of wood and then a loud BOOM! As you will see, there were three cars for the tree to land on, and it decided on our son's car. The following photos explain what happened. Yama Mama

Anyone know what the best way to fix the cracking of the vinyl from spreading? Also if anyone would rather have a brown backrest instead of a gray or black, in similar nice conditon and interested in a trade of some sort. The rest of the backrest is in excellect conditon. My 91 VR upholestry is the medium gray color.

I am in the process of digging down to check valve clearances on 02 venture. Want to wait and see if they need adjusted before borrowimg the tool. However, noticed the rubber intake between Carb and head have what seem to me to be substantial cracking in the material. Should I go ahead and replace them or is this semi normal aging Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

Just got home and saw that my new tires had arrived. I went with the Avons again. There was a recent comment the the problem with the sidewalls cracking has been resolved. That may be true but the dates on these tires are 0610 for the front and 4310 for the rear so any changes were likely made after these were produced. I was a little disappointed in that these were made last year. I'm replacing two Avons that still have a lot of tread the the sidewalls are all cracked. I'm going to mount these but if I have the cracking issue again, Avon and I are going to have a little chat.

I'm not sure if I put this in the correct category, but whatever. There was a thread a while back that sort of addressed a sidewall cracking issue on Avon Venom tires. My question is, has anyone successfully had a tire replaced by Avon due to a sidewall cracking issue? I've got a set of Avon Venom-x that were put on less than 1,000 miles ago (both front and rear) and I have a ridiculous amount of sidewall cracking on the front tire (right side only). I called the dealer that installed them and they told me to contact Avon directly, which I have done. Just looking for some input and to see if anyone else has had this issue and got it addressed by either their dealer or Avon. Additional information: I live in west Texas and the bike is stored in a garage. To my knowledge no tire dressing has ever been put on them and only soap and water has been used to clean them. (the guy I bought it from had them put on, and the bike had less than 50 miles on them from when they were installed at the dealership). The bike originally lived in southern california. The date code on the tire is 4205 (so it is obviously a few years old). The cracking is pretty consistent all the way around the tire. I run these at 36psi. I am trying to figure out what could have caused this and not a whole lot is making sense as to why it would only be the right sidewall on the front tire when the left side of the front and the rear do not have a single blemish on them. Any input is appreciated, and I'll keep everyone posted on what, if anything, I hear back from Avon. I have attached a few pictures to show ya'll what I'm talking about. Thanks a lot for your time, it is appreciated.

OK, I was probably the first rider to post a complaint about the Venom sever sidewall cracking back in '06 after Susanville. Twice. Avon warantee'd both front tires. What I'm wondering is just how many members have experienced sidewall cracking, and on how many tires. So let's start a list. Not interested in all the gorey details, just the facts listed below. PM me and I'll add your info to the list. From all the posts and threads about Avon tires cracking, I'd like to know just how many members are experiencing the problem. This is an after thought, but if you haven't experienced any cracking I'd like to hear from you also. All I'll need would be miles on the tire(s) and number of year(s) on the bike. I just think members are expeiencing way too much sidewall cracking, and sooner or later someone's going to throw a cap and get hurt. Although Avon has been very good on warantees, so far I don't think we've been given the straight story on sidewall cracking. I need the number of tires cracked, milage when replaced, warantee'd?, DOT date, and date replaced. Follow this link to see the results. AVON CRACKING

My trunk lid (where the passenger backrest attaches to the lid) has significant cracking around all of the mounting bolts. The cracks have now progressed to the point where they are visible from the outside of the trunk lid. The cracks are in excess of 2"...so I don't believe a "repair" is an option. Probably will have to replace the lid to maintain the integrity and safety of the backrest. Should this be covered under warranty? If it IS repaired under warranty, any ideas on how I can prevent this in the future?

I've been running Avon Venoms for the last 3-4 years on the '83VR and they were great when it comes to handling. It's just the sidewall cracking issue that bothered me. No complaint about Avon's replacement policy. Anyway, because of some good feedback on this board, I decided to put a set of Elite III's on the '99RSV. I'm still running Avons on the '91VR, but figured the '99 will be a long range tourer, and I don't want to deal with possible cracking while out in the boonies. Besides all of the 1stGens I own, for the most part, came with EII's, and.. IMO... are as tough as nails. If the EIII's give the same results I'll be a happy camper. The EIII's also have a tread pattern that's very similar to the Venoms. So I went ahead and picked up the EIII's from Jake Wilson online. Another set of Venoms, with their $50 buck rebate would have been cheaper by $20 bucks. The EIII's ran $221 on my doorstep, and the Venoms would have run me $240. Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike rebates....

I'm curious, and wonder if any of you have any knowledge on the matter. this 87 blonde is mechanically very sound, but i'm finding more and more bodywork that is cracked, specifically on the right hand side. i think it went down on that side, or may hve dropped from a standstill. it's all cracking to bits, and i'm not sure what years will fit? would bodywork from a mk1 fit a mk2? also, i'm considering going over the inside of all the larger plastic pieces with fiberglass to strengthen it. anyone done that?

Made the modification and it worked out fine - see http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20293 . I even found the bracket you used at Menards. Also tried a different approach with an "L" bracket - didn't work out too well - was, in my opinion, just too stiff and might cause some cracking in the ABS - was also just butt ugly (see pictures). Thanks for a good write up on the subject. Jinksy

I'm thinking of putting a luggage rack on my '09 RSV. Had one on a Goldwing 1500 and got a lot of use out of it. Any excessive reports of trunk lid cracking? Anyone know the weight limit on them? Tricks or tips? Thanks in advance for any insights.

Hey Guys, I've got an easy one for you, but the answer alludes me! I live in Georgia where we are water deprived and can't figure out how to get the ride nice and shiny. I was doing some woodwork in the garage, and true to form did not cover it up. I'm afraid of going to the car wash for fear of hitting something hot and cracking a casting or messing up the wiring. I'ts not a high priority question, but your thoughts would be appreciated! By the way I had to give her a spongebath in the garage today! Thanks, Kenw:322:
