In adjacent Limestone County, just west of Huntsville, at least one apparent tornado was reported.... Forecasters said the areas most at risk for twisters on Friday would be southern Indiana, southern Ohio, most of Kentucky, central Tennessee, northeastern Mississippi and northwestern Alabama. Saturday 10 Dec 201 about 1:30 PM I passed a Venture, I believe it was a 99, going west on County Road 42 in Lake County just outside of Altoona. I was heading east on my Blue/Black 07. Was it anyone on here?

I just got myself appointed to the county volunteer fire board by the County Judge Executive. Hopefully I can help improve fire service and obtain the best value for our tax dollars. I may come here from time to time seeking advice from the member fire fighters. About all I know about fire fighting is to call 911. Wish me luck! Dennis

Reading the Myrtle Beach, SC paper this morning I came across this. It happened about 4 miles from my parents home. The gentleman was on a 1985 Yamaha in Myrtle Beach from Ontario, Canada. Surely it had to be a Venture. Anyone know him? I looked through the Ontario section of members and couldn't find an Edward or Ed. Sad sad news!!! Police HORRY COUNTY Motorcyclist dies after S.C. 31 wreck A 63-year-old man from Canada has died after a single-motorcycle crash Friday morning in Horry County, according to authorities. Edward Parnall of Ontario was pronounced dead at 2:23 p.m. Friday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from injuries he suffered in the crash, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. The incident occurred at 11:25 a.m. Friday when Parnall, traveling north on S.C. 31 on a 1985 Yamaha, exited onto a ramp to U.S. 501 North, lost control of the motorcycle and slid off the left side of the roadway, said Sgt. Kelley Hughes with the S.C. Highway Patrol. Parnall was the only person on the motorcycle, Hughes said. Parnall was wearing a helmet. The incident is still under investigation by the highway patrol. http://www.thesunnews.com/2010/11/06/1796357/police-motorcyclist-dies-after.html

Not sure if this is already an ongoing thread but, sad news to report about a local biker, just a few miles from where I live/ride. There are some incredibly dumb people out there, be careful. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30558822/ Another article with her photo here: http://mobile.chicagotribune.com/inf/infomo;jsessionid=FD8A0179013AD9793388.2193?view=breakingnews_article&feed:a=chi_trib_1min&feed:c=latest_breaking_news&feed:i=C92EC7656B65D117A75BFECF7D993041&nopaging=1 Here's the text of the article. A motorcyclist was killed over the weekend after being struck by a car driven by a woman who was painting her fingernails at the time of the crash. Anita Zaffke, of Lake Zurich, was wearing a helmet when she was hit from behind by a Chevy Impala at a stop light Saturday evening at Route 12 and Old McHenry Road, the Chicago Tribune reported. "It appears to be a tragic accident and it appears (Zaffke) did nothing wrong," Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Morrison said. "She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and she could not have done anything to avoid it." Her son, Greg, told the Tribune that his mother was wearing a bright yellow biker's jacket. Zaffke was thrown "a couple of hundred feet" by the impact, the Lake County Coroner said. The driver of the Impala, Lora Hunt, 48, of Morris, told police she was painting her fingernails as she approached the red light at that corner, and she apparently didn't see the motorcycle. Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said that Zaffke died from chest and abdominal injuries about an hour later at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Morrison said Hunt was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and could face additional charges. The Lake County State's Attorney's office says it's looking into criminal charges, as well. "We are looking into charges in the case," Assistant State's Attorney Patricia Fix said this morning. "But we are waiting for results of blood and urine tests and waiting for the results of an accident reconstruction, as well as any other technical evidence we can derive from the scene."

If any of you live near Newton, Iowa and want to be a part of a neat event on May 26th come on over. I plan to ride in it and I've heard that we have close to 400 cycles committed already. Attention all motorcycle enthusiasts!!! Jasper County will be sending close to forty WWII vets and a handful of Korea Vets to DC to see the monuments built in their honor. We will be meeting at the Jasper County Community Center (former Aldi's building) at 4:00 p.m. on the 26th of May. There will be two charter buses of WWII vets and their spouses headed to Prairie Meadows for a send off banquet. As a sign of respect and honor, there will be an escort of numerous motorcycles leading the way from Newton to Altoona over the route. All motorcylce enthusiasts are welcom to participate!!We hope to have the streets and bridges along the route lined with individuals showing their support and respect for theses veterans. The caravan will be lead by the Patriot riders group. We will pull out at 4:30 sharp. We will make our way up first avenue to Rusty Wallace Drive. We will proceed to I-80 where Sheriff Mike Balmer will escort us into Polk County. We will turn off at the Mitchellville/Altoona exit to Adventureland Drive. We hope to have the streets of Altoona lined with well wishers as we make our way to Prairie Meadows. Once we reach Prairie Meadows, the Marine Corps Color Guard will welcome the vets in and a bagpiper will lead them into the grand banquet hall. If you have any questions please email jasperhonorflight@yahoo.com Please feel free to share this information with any group or individuals that may be interested. These men and women gave up a large chunk of their lives in order to protect the freedoms that we hold so dearly. Please consider taking a small bit of time out of your schedule to show them that we appreciate their efforts!!

Got this forwarded to me in an email and thought I'd share it with you all. He is the kind of guy we need more of. You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well......... SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN! Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe! Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay. The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows. The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weinaramer from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him... Cost us $78. The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals. I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system and copy some of his ideas.. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the holidays and plant it later. We have six trees in our yard from the prison. Yup, he was re-elected last year with 83% of the vote. Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff. TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO.. HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER. THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY: Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona ) who created the 'Tent City Jail': **He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. **He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. **Took away their weights. **Cut off all but 'G' movies. **He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. **Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination. **He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails, so he hooked up the cable TV again.....BUT only let in the Disney channel and the Weather channel. **When asked why the weather channel, he replied, "So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs." **He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. **When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't The Ritz/Carlton...... If you don't like it, don't come back." More On The Arizona Sheriff: With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts. On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their PINK SOCKS. "It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the TENTS for 1 year. "It's inhumane." Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths!" Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers' money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

Unfortunately my son got A H1N1 about 10 days ago. During that time he went from: "go back home it's a cold" to Intensive Care Unit with assisted respiratory support, and so far he still is there. Nobody give us (Me and my Wife) instructions about medicine or vaccine to take (Yes, I'm talking about doctors), and today we get the best part: A call from the county trying to research about how this happened. (It take 10 days to the county to realize my son is ill). One day, same people will going to do another research but nobody will be alive to answer the phone.... :95:

Home News Story Text Size AAA http://www.venturerider.org/2009/0916/20941136_240X135.jpg J. Dante Krauss Naked Motorcyclist Stopped, Arrested On I-75 Posted: 7:30 am EDT September 16, 2009Updated: 8:54 am EDT September 16, 2009 OCALA, Fla. -- Police pulled over and arrested a naked man riding a motorcycle on I-75 in central Florida early Tuesday morning. Marion County Sheriff’s Capt. Moshoji Rolls spotted J. Dante Krauss, 45, on a silver venture motorcyle on the interstate, wearing only his birthday suit. "I thought the driver of the motorcycle was not wearing clothing," Rolls said. The deputy decided to follow the naked biker. When Krauss ran a red light, Rolls pulled him over. Video from a dashboard camera showed Rolls questioning Krauss. When asked where he had been, Krauss stated, "I don’t know." Also, Krauss admitted he had been drinking and Rolls said there was a mild odor of alcohol emitting from him and his eyes were watery and bloodshot. "I'm just trying to figure out why you don’t have any clothes on," the deputy said. "Me too," Krauss replied. "The defendant could not explain why he was not wearing any clothing," said Judge Cochran, Marion County Public Information Officer. After field sobriety test was conducted, Krauss was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County jail. The sheriff's office said the incident is the fifth DUI for Krauss, who was released from the Marion County Jail Tuesday afternoon.

I have at my disposal an 80 acer piece of land ( Baja MX Millington MI ) use satellite view and zoom in. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=baja+mx&ie=UTF8&near=mi&f=l&split=1 After talking to the owner of the track they are open to the idea of hosting a rally/get together on their property. We could offer a large community bon-fire at night, as well as individual camp/cooking fires, swimming pond, port-a-lets (clean), Movies at night (outside, drive in style) via projection TV and a DVD player on a 12'x12' screen, A concession stand for lunch ( burgers, hot dogs, Pizza, chicken strips, Fries, sodas...ect.) There is a lot of land for camping. Frankinmuth is a stones throw away, Prime outlets mall just down the road, and some nice riding in the county. I am just wondering how many folks would be interested in something like this. We could even have a trial run the last week of Aug this year if anyone was interested in just getting together with friends. What you guys think? Am I biting off more than I can chew? Art~

What have others here done to ease the "wrap around" wid for their passenger's comfort? On our ride last evening, Doreen was complaining about some buffeting coming around the fairing. I do not know what the "wings" are actually called, but have seen some on other bikes whil on the road. As for the short trip, we went back county roads around Madison, SD. One section is called Valley Road in NE McCook County. Nice curvey road (Doreen did not like that, but we are both new to this type of bike) good scenery, virtually no traffic. We went about 50 miles and enjoyed every minute of it. We are working our way up to longer rides. Hope to take a good trip later this summer. Thanks, Dave

there is a controversy on the hub being in a dry county. not to worry we have three choices on beer and liquor for those who want it. 1) you can bring what ever you want with you when you come. 2) when you go on a ride you can. stop on the way back to the hub and bring what you want back with you ,thats what we did at vogel. 3) the owner of the hub said he would keep plenty iced down for us. can't elaborate on that cuz thats all he said and i did'nt ask any questions. so we will have beer one way or the other. no law against having or consuming it in a dry county you just can't buy it. i think you have to go about 23 mile from the hub to the beer store. eureka springs is not in a dry county. lots of people will probably go there to sight see. we could even have a beer run ride for those like me that like beer. bill

I apologize for the length of what follows, but some of you may want to know! Everyone is aware of the annual Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson sponsored spring bike rally and the Atlantic Beach bikefest the following week in May. Well, it appears that the MB city council voted not to have them anymore. The county comcil is split at present, but will likely follow suit. Supposedly, there were a failrly large number of complaints about both and the cost to the city for OT, addt'l services, etc. I don't generally go down there and mix it up during either event (did all that when I had my last bike.....doesn't do anything for me..I'm just not that interested), but I think it is short sighted and generally stupid to try to get rid of them. The city of MB wasn't the one to license many of the venues and temp. vendor permits anyway, so their basic statement was that they would "do things to encourage bikers to not come". I am beyond disappointed with these morons that run the local governments around here. There are millions of dollars pumped into the local economy by these events and these idiots think they can replace it with another % on the tax bill for us residents! There were some businesses that had complaints, but what about all the businesses that exist almost for the express purpose of serving those rallies? Years ago, we had Hell's Angels and Outlaws coming and there was occasionally trouble. That has long since been the case, though! I'm not telling you anything you don't already know when I say that todays bikers run the gamut from Doctors to Lawyers to mechanics and retirees and millworkers. Some let it all hang out a little too much when they get hooched up, but that happens whether they're bikers or not. More recently, but still maybe 7 or so years ago, the Atlantic Beach Bike event got totally out of control spilling over into Myrtle Beach and there were darn near riots when some of the businesses got antsy and closed up their establishments. Since then it's been much better, but many business are sick of having the NAACP breaking their stones over whether they are open or not during Bikefest and the constant complaining about traffic control & routing not being the same during the two events.(their description, not mine. I just happen to know a few of the business owners) If there are valid complaints..fine! I don't really care one way or the other as long as people act like they have some sense on the bikes, regardless of which event you're talking about. My wife & I were talking about it and there are usually around 200,000+ bikers showing up for Harley Week. My question to her was: What are the city and county going to do, when 50,000 or 75,000 bikers show up just like every other year ( because they didn't get the message or because they don't give a rip) and there are no events and no venues for them. And they get informed AFTER they spent their money to rent their rooms for the week, that "Myrtle Beach city and Horry County don't want you here anymore". I see the potential for problems. It ain't over till the fat lady sings and she's not up to the building just yet. I don't believe the public has had their complete say yet. http://wpde.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=148876 I've been here more less continually since about 1979 and the area has changed alot. I don't think I much care for where it's going...This latest..It's driven by attitudes and misconceptions and on the other side there is a measure of antagonism and arrogance and an equal portion of attitude. There's many more stick-in-the-mud transplant retirees that move in and start trying to change everything. There is a strong yuppie wannabe presence. It's changed and is still changing...which it will..I just don't think I like it much anymore is all. I suppose the bottomline is that regardless of what they decide, they can't keep bikers from coming to the beach if they feel like it. I don't know if I'm different from anyone else on this point, but if I'm not wanted...fine I'll go somewhere else. But, I'm going to try to convince as many of my biker AND cager friends to go elsewhere as I can in the process. (there was a time, though, when I'd have shown up just for spite and dared somebody to say something about it) I feel sorry for the business owners that cater to bikers, but I hope this whole thing backfires right in the face of the local governments. I mean for Pete's sake, it's one lousy week for each event. Control it if need be, make more and/or better ground rules and enforce them, but everybody has the right to a vacation and some fun at the beach with friends that they have a passion in common with, EVEN IF THEY ARE BIKERS. It should get very interesting! Oh yeah, they're separately talking about doing something about spring break too! Go figure! UPDATE: evidently the county has voted to go along with the city of Myrtle Beach in killing the bike rallies. (and I thought my district's county councilman was the only jerk in local government) It still ain't dead yet, vote or no vote!
