I'm considering rewining my stator since it does not seem too complicated. I have examined a XZ550 (Vision) stator that have the same number of coils (18) but is smaller. The copper wire has a diameter of 1.1 mm. Does the XVZ have the same wire size? Here in Europe I can't find high output stators. Probably because the XVZ did not sell in great number here. In UK the Electex company sells replacement stators for 90 £ (140 $) including VAT: http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eelectrexworld%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fOnline_Catalogue_Stator_Kits_424%2ehtml&WD=xvz&PN=G08%2ehtml%23aG8#aG8e They also have RR that seems up to date; http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eelectrexworld%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fOnline_Catalogue_Regulator_Rectifier_206%2ehtml&WD=xvz12&PN=RR36%2ehtml%23aRR36#aRR36 I have read about the cooling kit but it's perhaps a bit overkill here in Sweden (not being so very hot...)? So back to my first question; the size of the copper wire on the oem stator, please!

The dealer wants $25.00 for an Exhaust/Collector gasket. I'm thinking of making one. I'm looking for copper sheet but so far can only find brass, aluminum, zinc sheets. Was wondering if anyone knew if one should stay away from brass, aluminum or zinc. I will be checking Home Depot and Lowes tomorrow for copper sheets for I was told that the earlier years the exhaust gasket were made from copper, but the newer ones are some sort of silver color material. Welcome any comments.

I saw a comment somewhere about making your own exhaust seals on the first gen out of copper wire. Can somebody expound upon this please? It sounds ingenious.

I just returned from my first 500 mile overnight trip on the RSTD. 25 miles into the ride the left side passing light went out. I wasn't worried because it was just the light. When I got home I took the light apart think it will be a simple bulb change. But I can't figure this one out. Picture 1 - The light is out. Picture 2 - Back side of the light Picture 3 - The bulb??? Question - Does the entire headlamp get replaced or just the glass part in #3? The actual light bulb seems to be soldered to the copper colored fitting and blue wire.

Hi , I'm trying to shorten and add a right angle connect to an exiting 3.5 stereo audio cable. The cable has a yellow and white wire wrapped in copper wire. I believe the copper is for shielding (please correct me if I'm wrong). Does it matter which post yellow or white goes to. I've made up a connector with the white going to the left post and yellow going right, I've got continuity between the top pin to top pin of each connector and again continuity from middle section to middle section of each pin. I seem to be getting stereo sound from left and right speakers. My problem is there is a continuous whine in the background with or with out music playing that is not there if I use a unmodified cable. I thought maybe some of the shielding copper wire strands was touching one or both posts so I cleaned them up. But the whine is still there. What am I missing?????? :bang head::bang head:

Can the copper exhaust gaskets be reused? I thought I saw somewhere on here a thread about reusing copper washers, etc but you have to anneal them first. Of course, I can't find the thread now. Anyone have any experience with this? The story is that I had to tear the exhaust apart on my 84 to repair a hole in one of the headers. The old gaskets look to be in good shape so I figured I'd try to reuse them if possible. Thanks!
