We hired a Contractor to replace a Roof and siding due to Hail Damage. They did a wonderful job on the roofing but the truck that delivered the roofing left large ruts in our lot. When I mentioned this to our contractor he says that his guys are denying doing it. And that he has no idea how it happened. Of course I took pics and sent them to him stating that they are not allowed on my property again until this is fixed and if it is not fixed by Feb 1st, I am severing my contract with him. I will pay him only the remainder of what is owed for the roofing, minus what I have to pay to have the damage repaired. CAN I sever the contract for this?

As a couple of you may know, I was laid off my job Christmas week 2009. I have tried everything I could think of to find a job with almost zero luck. I worked a few weeks on an assembly line putting together electronics items for military hummers. Very hard work... very low pay... I just could not find anyone who was willing to hire a 55yr old, over qualified, over experienced, over eager medical imaging engineer. So I decided to make a go of it on my own. The opportunities were good, but the bureaucracy was greater. How do you float a 4 million dollar liability bond when you are unemployed? You don't. So that cut my opportunities by 90%. Still I managed to find enough work to keep my head above water. I had secured a contract to work for a local small service company that has kept the lights on and food on the table. Today that contract turned into a full time job with the company! It is far from the six figures I was making but will certainly turn into an adequate salary. With this will come medical insurance and the ability to allow my Navigator to retire. Just like so many others, it has been a hard 10-12 months. Finally, some breathing room...

Mineral Managment Service has suspended US drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Hopefully this will not last too long. 77 rigs under contract right now in the GOM. another 46 not on contract as of this week. They are going to allow work over of the current wells. Also other countries not under MMS control can continue... If this last very long it could mean around 15,000 or more folks will be layed off. This could very easily cause spikes in Oil prices and we could see it at the pumps... No word on when it will be lifted. BTW...not trying to start an argument about whether they should or should not drill in the gulf after the on going disaster...just wanted to let you good folks know what is going on if you see a spike in prices.

The kind old gentleman I bought the camp from I have know all my life. He only has distant family remaining whom I have never meet.I'm two years into our three year land contract his lawyer made. In twelve months the contract comes to term and I must pay the remaining balance in full. It has been a rough couple of years in the market and my plans for building a house down there have been set back. He told me verbally no problem you can just continue to pay me monthly if needed but that wasn't put in writing. Sad to say Friday he died unexpectedly from a short illness.I put a call into his lawyer to see where I stand. AT the moment I don't even know who to write the next check to.One things for sure. I must pay in full in twelve months. Hard to get a loan on land with no house on it just an old camp with no plumping etc.

I am starting a new job training dogs for the federal govt March 1 and will be a contract trainer. This was my specialty for the last 23 years as a civilian police officer and am looking forward to getting back to work with dogs. I've done the process where I've registered as a sole proprietor and all the other difficult paperwork. I know I'll need to pay my own taxes quarterly and my wife is good with stuff like that so figuring out what to pay should be ok. What I'm trying to figure out is is there any resource where I can find what exactly I can deduct and can't off the taxes. I'm wondering if I'll need to hire someone for the first year to help with the taxes. This is a five year contract. Any advice from anyone in this position would be appreciated.

Great headline:smile5: Industry Sees Few Changes With Dicks Calling The Shots: Defense industry officials and analysts say they expect a seamless transition when Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Wash., takes the gavel of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and promptly gets to work on the FY11 Defense spending bill when the House reconvenes later this month. He has not been tapped officially for the chairmanship, but House Majority Leader Hoyer has said he expects Dicks, the second-ranking Democrat on the panel, to take over after the death this week of longtime chairman Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa. Dicks brings with him strong ties to aerospace giant Boeing Co., which builds many of its largest planes in Everett, Wash., near his district. But while he's known as an unabashed Boeing champion, defense sources said they don't expect his chairmanship to bring about a significant change in defense spending priorities. After all, Boeing, the country's No. 2 defense contractor, hardly went unnoticed during Murtha's tenure as chairman, which was marked with multibillion-dollar congressional add-ons benefitting Boeing's product line, such as the C-17 Globemaster III cargo plane and the F/A-18 Super Hornet. "I don't think a whole lot changes," said one defense lobbyist, observing that Dicks' priorities are largely aligned with what Murtha advocated. But the two lawmakers diverged last year when Murtha fought and lost a battle to split the contract to build aerial refueling tankers for the Air Force between rival bidders Boeing and a team led by Northrop Grumman Corp. and EADS, the European consortium behind Airbus. Murtha hoped splitting the contract would curtail what he feared would be an endless cycle of challenges to contract awards. Dicks has favored giving the contract to Boeing alone. The Air Force is expected to release a final request for proposals this month, in anticipation of selecting a contractor this summer.

I was wondering about MiFi and how many folks here can get up to the 5-gig limit per month? I am thinking of getting a couple of small Dell 10's Mini's and having MiFi instead of having cards put into each unit. that way there is only one fee. and up to 5 Units can access it. I would also purchase one with-out a contract so I could turn it on and off for the months not really using it as well. Kinda of a nifty little device. Any comments about this kind of set-up would be great! Thanks, Jeff
