  1. ok guy's little help here. The guy i bought my rsv from took the antennas off and cut the coax cables handing me the whole mess in a box. These were the short black plastic wrapped antennas not the long ones.I've mounted an xm radio on it so am/fm do's not bother me but need the cb for upcoming road trip.Q#1 were is the cb Q#2 is the coax made into the cb or is it the plug in kind i can just pull out and replace (i have no idea how to splice a coax cable)Q#3 keep and use short black antenna or find the orig type and put it back on?Q#4 (nothing to do with cb)the acc plug under the left side of seat is DOA......fuse behind right lower faring is ok,replaced it to be sure, any ideas on this one? thanks in advance Mike
  2. ok so I had an atnenna brake on my 91 vr. So I went to the local radio shack and bought a twist on pl 259 coax connector. then a trip to the local truck stop where I purchased a 3 ftK40 antena, stud mount , and 90 degree pl-259 adaptor. This project took more timedeciding what antenna to buy than it did to do. First I cut the coax as close to the original antenna as possible and then screwd on the conector. Then installed the stud mount and 90 degree adaptor and screwed the coax back on. Already had the radio tuned to a channel that Ive never been able to pick up and waalaaa it picked up. Now for the ?? Will the stock cb handle 2 antennas? I am debating adding a splitter inline and getting 2 new coax cables to hook up 2 antenna instead of one. I just dont want to burn up the unit. And of course either way Ill be getting the swr set as soon as possible. David
  3. I added these a whlie back and thought some one else might be interested.I added the Signal Dynamics light bar under the trunk and the Yamaha spoiler with brake light, and decided I wanted some turn signals up high to match.I ordered a set of 3 inch light bars from Custom Dynamics in clear with a chrome base. They light up amber. You can also order them with a red or amber lense and also with a black base.I think they were about $45.I wanted them to blend in with the antennae when I got them mounted.I bought a 1 inch wide piece of aluminum to cut the mounting brackets out of.I then Wrapped the wires in electical tape and ran them down and under the trunk with the coax from the antennae, and then to the wires behind the tag.Attached to the coax with small zip ties. I really like them and they blend in with the antennae. You don't even notice them until they light up.I also polished the aluminum mounting brackets so they shine pretty good.
  4. OK, I've always been told that the proper length for CB coax should be done in 3' increments, with the optimal length being 18'. I've heard that if you cut your coax in lengths shorter than 18', setting your SWR's would be at best difficult if not impossible. So my question is, if I wish to put a CB on my bike, do I need to find a place to stuff 18' of coax?
  5. Hi! Sorry to sound so dumb, but I have always had problems anytime I have had to get into the front fairing on my 1st gen Venture. I am trying to do the Marshall Mod and put a Firestick on my bike (the coax for my stock antenna has some damage to it so I am replacing the whole thing). Problem is that I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get into the CB part of the right front fairing. I have searched high and low on the forum to see if there are any pics of this fairing disassembly on here, but to no avail. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks,
  6. As Anyone Tried A Linear On There Cb? I Have A 250 Watt Electronic One I Was Thinking About Adding With A Antenna And Coax Upgrade.
  7. …from past threads seams to be missing some details and I hope some of those past contributors (or anyone) can fill in some gaps for me. Here is the scenario I was thinking of: Fieldsheer Air-Tex mesh jacket with zip-out “water-resistant/thermal liner” (on-hand). 30-40 feet of 30 AWG multistranded Teflon coated wire ($4) WarmGear Heat-Troller Single Portable Temp-Controller WG-SPCOAX ($70) WarmGear SAE to Coax Jack (Female) WG-DCJK150SAE ($5) In theory, I could plug the SAE-to-coax adapter to the existing SAE jack that came already attached to my battery, then plug the heat-troller coax to the coax adapter (in lieu of using the battery harness that comes with the heat-troller), and plug the jacket coax into the other heat troller coax. (right?) …but naturally I would have to wire the jacket liner in such a way as to end up at a coax connector. This is where I am lacking information. I assume I would turn the liner inside out (?) and lay out the 30 gage Teflon wire back and forth around the jacket and hitch it down so it will stay put. I further assume I would leave a pigtail of wire near the waist/bottom for attaching to the coax jack. What I don’t understand is how to attach the 30 AWG (isn’t this a single wire?) to a coax jack. I thought I read somewhere that the 30 gage wire has to be upsized into an 18 AWG wire (if so, what kind of wire is this [two-wire?]? I.e. red/black zip cord from bulkwire.com? how is this connection accomplished?) and then the 18 AWG is attached to the coax jack (how is this accomplished? Where can I find a coax jack to match?). I’ve seen all the comments about just buying a heated vest, but dang they’re expensive. This looks like a project I could spend the summer doing since I won’t need the liner in the jacket. I’m pretty good with a variety of hand and power tools and a civil engineer by education (but by definition merely dangerous in the electronics department). Bottom Line: I don’t quite understand how to make the wiring connections for a DIY heated jacket. Hope someone can help. Thanks. David
  8. I could spend a lot of time here typing various opinions and etc. about antennas, coax, connections, etc. The fact is though, there are smarter people with me who have already done it. One of those is Firestik Antennas. Great information regardless of whether or not you have that particular brand. Good articles on setting the SWR, Antenna selection, ground planes or lack of the same. http://www.firestik.com/Tech_Docs.htm Here is a great site regarding coax that was forwarded to me by George S. http://www.qsl.net/g3yrc/coax.htm
