This is just a feeler to see how many VR members from the west coast.... Vancouver, Washington, Oregon, NorCal, SoCal, Nev, Arizona would be interested in doing a 'weekend' Venture West V in 2012. No specific place or dates, just would like to know of any interest at this time. I'll try to do a poll... did one a long time ago but can't remember exactely how I did it.... Meanwhile your post will work.

With the mega storm affecting a lot of the riders on this forum, especially those directly in the path of Sandy, and the extreme cold front that is coming in from the northwest of you, to mix with the rain and wind of Sandy...I just want to wish you all a safe harbor, and hope that everyone comes out of this okay. Please do your best to secure your family and home, and we will all understand if you need to be away from the 'puter for days. Once this has passed, please let us know if you are okay, but more importantly, please let us know if you need any help...anything at all. While I may be on the West Coast now, I have resources that can reach to the East Coast, and can be available to assist those in need on this forum. Just let me know. I wish all of you the best, and hope the best for you and your families.

We will be flying in to New York, then hiring a car [Chrysler Grand Caravan] to drive to Freebird's MD and do a little touring on the west coast, till it's time to go to Portland OR to get the trike. Can anyone recommend car hire companies where we would get the best deal e.g: unlimited miles ??

I just got back from a 2600 mile trip to S Dakota from Southern UT. Now my 03 RSV is leaving little spots of oil on the garage floor under the vent hoses that come out of the bottom of the motorcycle just aft of the engine. The oil spot is about 2 to 3 inches long and 1 inch wide and it is not dark dirty motor oil but still it looks like motor oil. My guess it is coming from some kind of breather hose or something. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? I didn't have this same issue last year when I got home from a 6500 mile coast to coast trip. Thanks Kent

I'm considering making a purchase in the next day or so. Found a 2005 RSTD in great cosmetic condition, but has 107,000 miles on it. It's at a used bike dealer with no history or documentation but he claims it was a trade in from original owner who did coast to coast touring on it and hasn't had any problems with it. The rear tire is bald, fluids appear old and dark, but the price is about $1500 under book value compared to 30,000 mile bikes with similar equipment. It does have a new windshield and new seat. Hard bags are nice also. I've had ST1100 with 94k miles in the past with no fear of the bike letting me down, but I had receipts that went back 5 years and A LOT of work was done to it. Would you take the chance? What would you inspect before laying out the cash? The price is $3500. If a rebuild or major failure is eminent at 107k, it would be smarter to go with a $5000 bike with lower miles. Considering the highway touring it's had, I wonder how religious the owner was about oil changes and valve adjustments? Anyone else with 6 digits on their odometer?

was thinking of putting together a nc maintenance day however i don't have all the tools and very little knowledge on working on these bikes.(no lift or stand) i have a two car garage for working on them just thought i'd ask for some feed back on this.not trying to get to fancy just trying to do something for nc.if i lived close to the coast it would be no problem, i could just kidnap muffinman, lol.please give me your thoughts and tell me if i'm grasping at straws or not, thanks.

i did a search and guess i'm more challanged than i thought. the search thing dosen't like me or something cause i don't get good results, and yes i tried modifieing my search.done some research lately and found that i need two if not three different air gauges.i based that on the theroy of getting a gauge that is in half of the zone. Ie the forks max p.s.i. is 7lbs so 0-15 would be correct, tires avon rear max 50 p.s.i so 0-100 would be correct.i guess the rear shock would be the same as the rear tire,my question is why would i need two different progressive air pumps(0-15& 0-60) when the 0-60 would work on both ? since i'll be useing two separate gauges.the pumps coast around 42-47 dollars and the gauges coast 14-21 dollars.my finial and guess real question is,could i not use a bicycle pump(small tube style that goes on frame)to work on the forks and shock? sorry for the drawn out gibbresh.

Veterans Affairs Canada has just produced a new video honouring all veterans and pointing them towards Veterans affairs across Canada. It goes from coast to coast showing some veterans and listing their names and the theater they served in. There is a B. Tessier with his wife and his RSV shown early in the video, does anyone know him or if he is a member here? I would like to thank everyone for their service of their military no matter where you lived or served, the service you performed is greatly appreciated! http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/video-gallery/video/9010 Brian

With the potential threat of Hurricane Irene hitting the coast this weekend, should anyone need to evacuate, our doors are open for you. In South Carolina, we are located basically in the center of the state, around 120 miles from the coast, so you would be on safe ground. Just let us know if we can help, my cell phone is on my profile, give us a call. Bobbie and George

We're on our way home from the west coast. Tonight we're in Grants NM. We left home on the 21st for a ride to Oregon and N. California coast. So far we've travelled about 4800 miles. We're headed to the Oregon and N. California coast this summer and I am trying to do a little planning. On the map it appears that there are several redwood state and national parks. Which ones to visit for seeing the big trees? We're hope to hug the coast as much as possible before we turn east to Yosemite. Dennis

We have spent this week at Gulf Shores State Park in Gulf Shores Alabama. What a beautiful spot. Road the bike to Dauphin Island and along the coast to Pass Christian Mississippi today. Lot of evidence of the hurricane damage but everything is getting cleaned up nicely, at least along the coast where we were today. The weather has been fantastic all week. Heading for New Orleans on Monday.

Had a great day today. Beautiful weather, and took my 17 year-old son on his first ride along with my two brothers. He took the MSF course 2 weekends ago and passed with flying colors, and then got his M endorsement from the DMV on Thursday. We started off with meeting some fellow riders from our church at a Starbucks in Seal Beach, and then the 4 of us headed south on Pacific Coast Highway about 25 miles or so to Laguna Beach. Cut over to the freeway for a stop at an accessories shop before heading home. Matthew did a great job and I am really proud of him. He was on the 1988 Honda NX 250 I picked up about 3 weeks ago. Great little bike for a starter and beyond. We're planning a ride further up the coast next weekend for an overnight camping trip.

Have made the deposit and sent the sidecase to Hannigan for color match(?). Should have the 08 RSV triked and back from 'Huals Bikes to Trikes' in Cantonement, Fl. by late March. The only down side is that I won't have it in time to ride with the Shriners in the Mardi Gras parades down here along the coast. That being said,,, I will have a lot of parts for sale. I will list them in the Classified section when conversion is done.

I have two questions concerning the Run For The Wall. First: How many have heard of Run For The Wall? Second: How many are going to go with me next year, 2011? Last year I only saw one Venture and about 4 Road Stars. This year there will be one less R* ,mine, and one more RSV, mine. It would be nice to see a whole contingent of Road Stars and Royal Stars. RFTW really is a great ride and the experiences are irreplaceable. All motorcycles are welcome as well as non-vets. For the west coast rider you will end up on the east coast just in time for the Maintenance Day in Oberlin. The web site is RFTW.ORG. Give it a look see and see if you can fit it into your schedule.

I'm beginning to plan our next big ride for next summer. We're planning to make our way to Eugene OR and take 5 or 6 days to ride along the coast to Monterey CA. Does anyone have any suggested routes or must see places that we shouldn't miss. We'll probably travel in July. Thanks, Dennis

Thought some of you might be interested in seeing this as it goes across the country. Starts here in NC in Kitty Hawk and end up in Santa Monica CA. Looks pretty interesting all the bikes are 1916 and earlier. We're gonna head over to see them before they leave Kitty Hawk this week. http://www.motorcyclecannonball.com/ Margaret
