  1. I am new to this forum and have already got some great information from here. Recently purchased a 84 Venture Royale and spent about 2-3 weeks going over everything making it worthy for the road. Two things I want to address: 1. cruise control is not turning on (I leave this topic for another time). 2. I have noticed that I have a small leak in my CLASS system. Example: I set the rear to the medium setting (43 PSI) after about a hour of riding the psi is down in the low 30s. I know the right answer is to take everything apart, find the leak and repair it. I believe the front has an even slower leak. My idea (I haven't seen anyone post this) is to hook up the CLASS system to a switch that, once turned on, will turn on the CLASS system while the bike on. This way, I can ride for a long trip and periodically to on the switch and monitor the system. I have already installed a separate fuse panel which is controlled by a relay which is controlled by the key so there is no way to forget to turn off the system. Thoughts.... concerns...
  2. Folks, I'm getting the E4 error. I opened the controller and looked at the soldering. It seems OK, nothing seems broken. Is a bad solder connection too subtle to see, or is it very obvious? Sensor input and output voltages are within spec, but it doesn't behave exactly as the service manual states: According to the manual, page 7-91, I'm supposed to turn the main switch to ON, wait for 10 seconds, and test output voltage. However, I only get output voltage (0.92V) when the main switch is in the ACC position. Does this mean I have a bad CLASS Controller? What else could be wrong?
  3. Hello, I work at a repair shop and had a Yamaha Venture pull in, its an '88. The class system keeps throwing an E4 error message. I looked it up and I guess it means there is no voltage coming out of the air sensor. Now, when i turn the key I imagine I should hear the compressors kick on, but I'm getting nothing. Any idea on where I can get the full class system minus the computer itself? Thanks! Zac
  4. I just bought a 88 Venture. Love it but the air ride does not work and the display shows NOTHING. Pulled the white plug and checked all conections No voltage anywhere. Any ideas. Also, has anyone ever relaced the CLASS with manual gauges and switches? May sound lo-tech but Po' boys got lo-bucks. Thanks
  5. I've had my Venture Royale a little over a month and a half now and have put about 1000 miles on it. I have to admit, of all the bikes I have owned or have ridden over the years, this is by far my favorite. When I bought the bike the CLASS system had been disabled. The previous owner did not like it for some reason. All parts are still on the bike and he assured me there was nothing wrong with the system he just did not like the way it adjusted the bike when he rode two up with his wife. The guy is local and a decent guy so I have no reason to believe this isn't the case. When he disabled the system he removed the fitting for the rear shock that connects to the compressor and added a valve to directly air up the shock. I can find the hoses online to replace this hose with the proper connection. I have noticed that when I had a passenger on the bike the back mudflap hits the ground when going over bumps and from the looks of it, it has been doing this for a while. I added air at the valve he placed in the line but it doesn't seem to do much to raise the rear of the bike. My question is this. I have looked into the Progressive front springs and also checked out a few aftermarket rear shocks (Hagon, etc). Is it worth my while to try to get this CLASS system back up and running or I should I just consider going the Progressive route with new rear shock? 99% of my riding is solo. I rarely have a passenger. When I ride the bike solo the suspension seems fine to me. I do feel like the back end sits a bit too low though. Sure, I would like to have the CLASS system working, but am I missing anything by not going that route? Seems to me that if I get it working I might just be asking for more problems down the road. Whereas if I do the Progressive and new rear shock I should not have to even think about anymore. I appreciate any opinions one way or the other. Thanks.
  6. My class has an e-1 error. When the key is turned to acc there is no sound from the system. I used another none good panel with the same results. Any ideas where to start or any known issues that cause this code?
  7. Have any Venture Riders ever thought or heard of swapping the 1300cc out with the thumping 1854cc of the Stratoliner? Would it bolt to the transmition of the Venture since they're both 5 speeds? Don't get me wrong, I love my ride, and I understand it's a bike in it's own class built for the long cruise. But what if...What if it could be more? What if I could have the luxurious comfort of Yamaha's #1 tour bike, powered by the loping thump of Yamaha's biggest V-Twin? So...what do you all think? Has it been done, or can it be done?
  8. I had to replace my class controller and I was wondering if there was a way to change the display from psi to kg/cm???
  9. wondering if someone can help! is there anyway to bypass the class air system on my 1986 yamaha venture royale? I bought it a week ago and it isnt working. e-4 message can hear the pump clicking. took the controller out checked for soldier breaks. Im thinking this is gonna be a lot of work! so can I bypass the system so I can ride? thanks for any help!
  10. anyone ever bypass the class and still use the compressor if so is it as simple as putting a toggle switch on it and run manually i used the search bar and guess im not putting in the right keywords or word
  11. Hi Everyone I have reading some the recent post about bypassing. The class air ride system but I want to Install the class on my Venture. Has anyone installed this on a regular Venture ??? If so can you give some feed back. Thanks. Jim C:223:
  12. i took my class apart today to re-solder the pins and to my surprise this has been done several times before i thought something was funny when i looked at the case and it has several cracks in it so dug deeper and a complete and utter mess i have burn marks on the board at just about every diode resister and capacitor LCD display was burnt and a trail of liquid dripping on the board from the LCD display i have no air in suspension anyone know where i can get a new/used class at a reasonable price checked flea-bay no luck and is there an easy way to put air valves on this so i could manually put air in
  13. I am new to these venture bikes. I used to be big into the xs bikes. Plain and simple. But these venture bikes caught my eye and decided to buy one. I keep hearing about CLASS and YICS. What is it exactly. I am trying to get the bike running tip top. So far I have taken it up the road and man does it ride way better then my xs did. Much more comfortable. I think it handles better too.
  14. First I want to thank Freebird for his excelent how to on fixing the class controller board. I had nothing on my class display, most of the time. occasionally I would show 0 psi and then an e4 error then the display would go blank. I tried the solder fix and now when I switch to acc position my display lights up showing front rear manual auto on the left side and 0 psi I can select med hi or low or switch to auto mode momentarily then it goes into an E4 error. after 30 seconds or so everything recycles through the same sequence. I can hear a relay click under the trunk every time the display cycles but no compresor comes on, should I be able to hear the compressor if my pressure is too low IE: 0 psi. Looking at the wiring diagram I see a two connector plug going to the pump as well as a larger multi connector plug just upstream of the plug for the pump. I assume the compressor is under the trunk and these connectors are also in that area. can anybody tell me where the class relay is and the connector asociated with it. Where is the compressor and it's connector are located. and where the large multi connector plug just upstream is located. do I remove just the trunk, or also the seat? Again thanks Freebird, and thanks in advance to anybody who can help with my questions Al
  15. Since I joined this forum in 2010 I have done a bunch of repairs, just following the instructions you kindly. knowledgeable, experienced guys have posted. This afternoon, in less than two hours I just fixed the Class E4 Error by following the instructions posted by Freebird back in 2006. (And I'm not that good wrencher at all, some times I prefer no to start some repairs afraid of not finished them and compromised my weekly Saturday rides with my buddies) I'm so excited I can hardly wait to tell my friends about it. (I mentioned last Saturday and one of them suggest to forget about the compressor and replace it with progressive shock springs, that what he did on his) Well, I'm so glad I did it :) Thank you so much. Rudy:cool10:
  16. Quickstep and I joined the Patriots M/C and a large group of riders for their annual Memorial ride. We had permission to ride over the causeway onto Fleet base West, which is the Navy base not far from us that is home to the Collins class submarine fleet. Magic! Then back to the Disabled Veterans clubhouse for BBQ lunch, raffles etc. In total we raised $5,000 for Legacy

  18. Well now that I have my "flashing warning light" issue corrected, it's time to move on. I'm trying to get the CLASS to work. I'm getting an E1 error. According to the manual, it may be a connection problem somewhere. I guess I'll just start and the front and work my way back, cleaning all connections with contact cleaner. This bike has been setting for a very long time so I'll probably need to go through everything. Is there anything I need to be aware of?
  19. Lately when I try to put some pressure into my suspension, according to the class, the pressure goes up kind of fast but the bike doesn't go up at all. The first time this happened, it worked fine 6 or 7 miles later down the road. I'm not getting any kind of error code or anything. This happens on the front or rear, doesn't matter. Any ideas? Thanks, Bill
  20. Mike's doing his Visual Basic homework, advanced class. This is his 4th time taking a VB class between 4 different schools....let's say he generally knows what he's doing. Tonight he's struggling with working with CSV format. I know it's about reading from, writing to, and putting the database into a visual format like a contacts list in an address book, only it's dealing with car sales. The trouble he's having is with reading from the file. The textbook discusses how write the file. However it doesn't discuss the other part. He's emailed the prof, however it's unlikely he will hear from her until Monday. Homework is due tomorrow (Thurs) @11:59pm. Anyone want to lend him a hand? We'd both appreciate it, he's been pulling his hair out all day.
  21. i havent seen or heard if there is going to some sort of class going on on the friday before MD like years past.
  22. Well, It took some doing but I got the new fork seals installed. The job wasnt too terribly bad thanks to many posts on here but a particular thanks to Freebirds post on Fork Seal Replacement. Couldn't have done it without you especially since this was my first venture (no pun intended) in the great wide world of fork seal replacments! lol. Got everything back together and the Class wouldnt work. Thanks again to Freebirds post on Class E4 error repair, I was able to solder all the broken connections and the class system again works as a charm! YAHOO!!!!! One quick question... When I apply the front brake and push down on the handlebars, I seem to be able to bottom out the forks a bit too easily. I'm wondering if the springs inside the forks wear out and would need to be replaced. The fork oil is new, the air pressure is working but like I said, seems to be able to bottom out too easy. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! Jay
  23. This is very nice. Merry Christmas To All, Again ............ The "W" in Christmas Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending. Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas. My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old. For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise. So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title. Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads. Those in the front row- center stage - held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song. As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love." The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down - totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W". The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W". Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities. For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear: "C H R I S T W A S L O V E" And, I believe, He still is. Amazed in His presence... .humbled by His love. Again, HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS SEASON!
  24. Does the radio display in my 1st gen Venture have a bcklight? Riding home in the dark the other night and could not see the buttons. The LED display is visable and the green power can be seen but nothing else. The CLASS controller has a backlight so I would think the radio should be also. Just wanted to know before taking it apart.
  25. Including my 88 I don't know what Carl did when he put the trunk box etc together on my bike .... but my class WAS working before I tore everything apart. Now it is dead....nothing....no display....no clicking....zilch...zip...nada. Where do I start?
