I am in the beginning phases of a planned ride to capture for my ride map the northeastern states next summer. One of my possible routes takes me through Montreal and Quebec City to Madawaska, Maine. In my research, I've come across a notice that motorcycles are not permitted in the old city part of Quebec City. True? If so, does that argue against stopping in Quebec City and spending my time elsewhere? Dave PS - first entry in this section of the forum. I feel special.

I didn't know Brenda very well. She use to work for the city. The position I have now, is the position she had when she left the city. Brenda has a lot of friends, and she is liked by many. She was in an accident this past Saturday. She is in intensive care, and has a breathing machine hooked up to her. She is in an induced coma, because her brain is swollen. I am posting a few links to different articles. Please pray for Brenda. Hopefully she will make a full recovery. I know there are a lot of scenic rides in the Black Hills but here are some of that don't get a lot of traffic usually. One of the better ride is just south of Sturgis, SD, just south of I-94 exit 32. It is Vanocher Canyon Road. There is alot of curves and elevation changes on it and very little traffic other the other motorcyclist. It is a nice paved road and run to Nemo Road on the south end. From here I take Nemo road east towards Rapid City but turned south onto Norris Peak road. This was a twisty, sometimes little narrow paved 2 lane road the goes to Johnson Siding on SD 44. From here you can either go east to Rapid City or west to US 385. I enjoyed this ride so much I did it twice, once from the north and then from the south.. I also went into Sturgis and had lunch at One eyed Jacks on Main St. They have excellent hamburgers there. Another fun ride was the Old Hill City Road. This run alongs the Hill City Railroad tracks to Keystone. It is lightly traveled and has alot of curves on it. You will cross the tracks over a dozen times also. This is a nice ride from Hill City to Keystone. Of course I did the major riding roads too.. US 16A and Needles Highway. The one thing to watch out for on Needles highway are the tour buses and I mean the full size kind. So be prepared for meeting a few of these. I ended up meeting 4 of them on one trip and it took one of them about 20 mins to get thru the eye. He sure had traffic backed up both ways. Also road in Spearfish Canyon Road, US 14. We started in Spearfish and rode to US 85 where we headed south to New Castle, Wy. This is a nice road with lots of twisties in SD and then flattens out in Wy but still is a nice ride. We returned to the Hills via US 16 east to Custer. This route has more traffic but does have some scenic spots that make it a nice change. Another circle I did was south out of Hill City on US 385, thru Custer and south to SD 87 north. SD 87 is a twisty narrow road that runs up to US 16 and has all kinds of different terrain. I didnt have alot of traffic on this road either, compared to US 16A and Needles Hwy. There is a pigtail bridge on this section also that adds some interest to it but alot of wide open areas that give stunning views of the valleys. These were the roads I traveled this time and there are alot more you can do. If you dont mind gravel roads, there is always the forest roads to explore but I dont recommend it on a Venture Royale. Hope this helps in your travels of the Black Hills. I know I sure enjoys my travels out there on the motorcycle. Rick F.

Our Daughter and Grandson and I are visiting our other daughter and granddaughter in Kansas City, Mo. It has been very dry and no real rain in months. There was a storm last night and it is still raining this morning. Thank goodness. It is a little too late I am afraid for the farmers. I hope the air quality improves too. We will be heading home on Saturday. On the way here, I saw a lot of bikes on trailers heading to you know where on I-70. Yama Mama:smile5:

The people in Belgium are completely insane!! But what a fun place to live! Wouldn't want to try this stunt in the U.S. though. No offence to our below the border friends, but can you imagine what would happen if they did that in New York city or Houston, Texas? What am I talking about? In the upper right corner of every post there is the flags for country and state, and above that the name of the members city. Is it possible to make the city name a link that will open Mapquest or Google earth to make it quick and easy to find approximately where someone lives? This feature is on several other websites that I frequent and I find it handy. Most of us do not live in major cities that everyone knows.

First off I live in Iowa, we have "winters" here. The city of Oskaloosa (where we live) lets us drive on rotten streets all spring & summer long. (Pot hole central I'm talking about). Our great city (cough, cough) runs all over the city filling pot holes, but only in the VERY, VERY late fall. Now with "winter" comes snow and ice, the snow and ice fill any pot holes that the city missed so we get smooth roads for 2 to 3 months. The snow plows drag out all the nice "shovel tapped in" blacktop patches, so when the snow and ice melts in early spring, we have ALL our holes back plus a few more till the next FALL! Questions > > WHY can't they fill the holes in the "spring" time and we have smooth roads all summer and fall and ice filled smooth roads in winter? > What is the point of filling them in, to be drug out by the snow plows and busting your snow blower when you hit a nice sized chunk? > Is this some unwriten law by this city that states (Tho shall not have good roads but pay MAJOR road use taxes)? This has bugged me for the last 20 years of living here. Should I run for city engineer? Bet I could win,,, just promise smooth streets! Thank you, Bryan

This morning my power went out. Switched box over to the backup system diconecting from city provided power so not to conflict when city power comes back on. The generator engine started up just fine. Fliped the breaker switch one at a time. Then checked for power. No electricity. Hmmmm. double checked all my connections still no power. Brought a electric drill and pluged into one of the 110 outlets on he generator and no electricity. I do not know anything about generators. Is a Generic 5000 watt. Bought it new 15 years ago, always stored in a heated garage. Probably used is once or twice a year for maybe 10 hours each year. Anyone have any suggestions?

The weather is a little cool, but that doesn't appear to be slowing them down. Several are here and enjoying the 70 degree weather. Not a bad turnout for the fall week and a city that doesn't want to be biker friendly. Could have fooled me.

Since it was too hot to ride the bike Sunday, we took the four wheels to see Eck and Konnie! We went to eat at Fleet Landing with a beautiful view. George and Eck spotted some dolphins but I could not get a picture of them! After lunch, we took a scenic route through Charleston. It always amazes me what a beautiful old historic city it is! After a long afternoon of playing pool, we had pizza at Dough Re Mi, a New York City style pizzeria! The pizza was delicious!! We highly recommend this place and look forward to returning! Just a few pictures of our wonderful day with Eck and Konnie! Thank you both for an absolutely beautiful day!
