A brief history...had a new 06 RSTD midnight for 3 yrs and got the urge to try an '07 ST1300. Which the wife stated she would not ride it...looked to Tokyo. Which led to another m/c. Looking for either a good used RSV or a HD Glide, RK, I found an '08 RK near Beaumont with 4700 miles before I could find a RSV within 200 miles for the right price. Needs some TLC from sitting up, but other than that all checks out. Still gonna hang out here, don't post to much or do any meets, but I do enjoy reading all the goings on. Yes, it does have the factory mufflers and yes I'm keeping them...I'm not into loud.

Insurance company haters here is something to make your day. LOL Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced setlements on Monday with three additional insurers-- Travelers, Fireman's Fund and Electric Insurance-- for allegedly overcharging policyholders. Fifteen insurance companies in total have now settled with Coakley and agreed to return close to $40 million to Massachusetts consumers, including more than $5.6 million in additional insurance refunds for Massachusetts motorcycle owners. "We are pleased that our investigation, which began with a single consumer complaint, has resulted in the return of nearly $40 million to Massachusetts motorcycle owners," Coakley said. "We are very concerned that the auto insurers in this state were abble to overcharge so many Massachusetts consumers on such a large scale." Monday's three settlements resolve allegations that the insurance companies illegally overcharged state consumers for years by using un-depreciated and inflated motorcycle values to calculate insurance premiums. Coakley's office reached similar settlements with 12 other insurance companies last year. As a part of the newst settlements, Premier Insurance Company of Massachusetts refunded $5,000,386, American Automobile Insurance Company will refund $571,394 and Electric Insurance Company will return $123,882 to policyholders in the state. The three insurance companies are also required to collectively send out more than 14,000 refund checks in late October, with an average refund of approximately $400. According to Coakley's office, 1,424 refund checks will be over $1,000, 2,031 refund checks will be between $501 and $1,000, 2,627 refund checks will be between $251 and $500, 3,579 refund checks will be between $100 and $250 and 4,488 refund checks will be under $100. The 15 settlements stem from a consumer complaint filed with Coakley's office from a consumer who owned a 1999 harley-Davidson road King Classsic. The consumer's premiums were alledgedly calculated as if the motorcycle was brand new and worth $20,000 price. By 2008 the nine year old motorcycle was worth less than $12,000. Despite this, each year between 2003 and 2008 the consumer's insurance company allegedly used the inflated $20,000 value to rate the poicy, resulting more than $1,500 in overcharges.

transmission / shifting trouble
massey130 posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
i have been having trouble with my 04 RSV. I have been posting in the watering hole, but so far i have not found the problem. it has trouble shifting. clutch and its fluid checks out ok. the shifter linkage checks out ok. i pulled the middle gear cover off (left rear cover) and it checks out ok. thinking it was an engine oil level, oil was changed this started out of the blue. i parked the scooter after a ride when shifting was working properly, found a slow leak, ordered a new tire, put the tire on. went for a test ride. shifting up was fine and the trouble started upon my first down shift, it would not down shift. i could come to a stop and pound on the shifter getting back to first. then repeat. after a couple times of this, the shifter began to "flop" out of place. not left or right. when toeing up to 3rd, the shifter just kept moving upwards nearly 5 inches with no changing of gears. i would have to toe the down to get things back to an order where i could get home. coasting around corners does work too well and lugging around in the wrong gear is not the way to do things. any suggestions as to what is happening would be appreciated. -
I just had to start a new check register. Its funny thats its still called a check register because between Nov 2009 and Dec 2010 I wrote 12 checks in 13 months. So, thats less than 1 a month. Most of the checks were for taxes of one form or another. But the local tax office now takes debit cards, so I suppose most of the checks I did write were really unnecessary. I fact, it appears that a check I wrote to The Ponderosa in Cody WY, which doesn't take cards and the 2 checks to buy my 2000MM RSV in April were the only checks I wrote that couldn't have been done electronically. The number of check registers I get when buying a box of checks doesn't last and I go to the bank once a year or so to get a new register, and cant remember the last time I actually bought my checks. Maybe 5 years ago when the bank changed ownership and its name and account numbers?

OK I have a 93VR, I started having E4 errors so I have done as suggested, soldered the board, didn't fix it, then I started getting E1,E6 & the E4 again. So I tore down the bike and done all the checks as mentioned in the service manual. While I was doing the checks on the controller, it seems to take a long time for the voltage to come up to 13.3 volts on some of the checks while testing on the back side of the plug. The solenoid valves and pump are OK. I cleaned all plugs real good with CRC. Now the display at the controller will sometimes not even light up. The only thing i have NOT done is take the fairing off and check the relay on the curb side of the bike. I am up for any suggestions on what to do next. Has anyone done away with the CLASS system by just airing up the rear when needed by installing an air stem at the junction on the side of the seat and use a tire pressure gauge to check pressures? If any one has a spare circuit board maybe I can see if it is just a bad board? I'm at whits end.

The book says the steering neck needs to be 'repacked' after so many miles (16,000 miles) My 06 Midnight bike is 'way' over that (no warranty) and I'm wondering if this is one of those checks not really required as it's rare to find anything wrong or is it something you really should have checked out after a certain while..? I ask as my bike started to demonstrate a strange wobbly-wop in turns at gentler turns and speeds.. nothing to scare you but something you can feel in the bars.. I had the front wheel checked for scalloping (low tire pressure) but this is not the case.. Would this be an indication I should have those bearing repacked and checked? The bike will be up on jacks soon so it would be an opportune time to do some 'front end checks' if there were any to check for this? Cheers

Ok Don is away for a few days, everybody on this site comments on how much they enjoy the chatter and how the site is a positive in their daily lives. How about we say Thanks by filling Dons "inbox" with a bunch of VR Donations, I am sure he would appreciate starting the New Year with the coffers full, and it would be a neat joke to play on him while he is away, imagine his look when he checks his email to find a 1000 donations!! I 'll start it off, whatever you can spare will help the cause, so please help if you can. Thanks Craig:mo money:

Folks, this is a hard thing for me to even mention here. I am NOT mad. I understand that bad things happen sometimes to good people. I just want to mention it though because I can't handle this too often. I got my bank statement today and found that a check that one of you sent to me got returned for insufficient funds. This is the second time this has happened. I never mentioned it the first time because I really just hate talking about this kind of thing. It has to be said though. I'm not even sure who the check came from. I will contact my bank on Monday and try to find out. I THINK it was for a donation to the site. While I know it was made with good intentions, the bottom line is that the donation ended up costing me $60.00. That is what my bank charged me for the depositing the bad check. I think it is nuts that my bank charged me $60.00 for a bad check from somebody else and rest assured I will be talking to them about that also. I'm sure it will do no good though. The other one was a couple of years ago but the end result is that I've lost $120.00 due to these two checks. I'm sorry to say that I will probably no longer accept checks for any donations, patches, parts, anything else. It's just not a chance that I wish to take any longer. Sorry it had to be said. I know that the person who sent the check certainly had the best intentions and would never have let it happen on purpose.
