Well, since this is the off year for Vogal here in the south east, I think we need to see what interest we may have in having another Asheville Rally. What I have done in the past is throw out the opportunity for everyone to let me know what interest there is and what dates people would like to suggest. Once we start getting this information, we can start putting something together. For those of you that have never been to the Asheville get together, it is really more like an extended meet and eat. It is very laid back and we have a great time. It is not real organized and so far that has worked real good. In the past we have stayed at the Asheville East KOA campground and have always been able to have the main congregation at the lilly pond. This is a great place in the campground as is is a bit off to itself and is also within walking distance to the cabins. There is not a registration fee and your costs are what you spend just having fun. We have always been able to double up on the campsites and this helps. We have in the past had about six or so campsites together and with these sites being large, we just kind of fill it up. For those that do not want to camp, there are nice cabins and a lot of motels close by. And, if you want any door prises, you will have to bring your own. As far as rides and meals, the opportunities in this area are abundant. You could spend a month in this area and still find great roads to ride and places to eat. We put together rides by asking "Who wants to ride where?" and go from there. Some may want to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Cherokee, NC, which is the most majestic part of the parkway for running the crest of the mountains and is also the highest elevation on the parkway. Some may want to go to Grandfather Mountain or Chimney Rock. Some may want to go to the Biltmore house. Google these places if you don't know about them. As far as food, in the past we have gathered most at a particular BBQ restaurant on one evening and usually breakfast is fixed at the campground. We will make a run to the store for food and folks will chip in a couple of bucks. We usually have pancakes and bacon and sausage. To my knowledge, no one has ever left hungry. As far as dates, the times could probably be from June to September. We will just have to see how it would work best for the most people. Just respond with your thoughts and suggestions and we will see what can be put together. RandyA

This is a little premature but have been thinking about this for a while so, figgured I'd throw it out here and see what kinda responses ya'll might come back with. When we retire (2-3 yr from now), unless we win a lotto, we will have to continue working, at least part time. We're thinking about wintering south of the border somewhere like Texas or Southern CA, etc ... returning to Canada for the summer. With our limited pension we figgure we could accomplish this by doing seasonal campground caretaking work which usually provides free camping and a small wage. No idea at this time if that is even possible or where to start looking for possible opportunities. Also open to other ideas, keeping in mind our limited budget and needs. We want to travel on the scoot with our tent trailer in tow and will probably live in it for the most part unless there is a better offering. Don't know how long we'd be able to do this...time will tell. Looking for your comments / suggestions / ideas ... On the other hand, if anyone wants to offer us a free place to stay.....

The hubby and I rode to Duluth for the Tall Ships Festival this weekend. We camped at the Buffalo House campground south of town. As we were pulling out yesterday, we spotted a 2nd gen Venture that was camped out. Was that anyone here?

We have decided to ride the RSV to Sturgis from our home in Cincinnati. We will be riding west on I-74,to I-80, to I-380, to I-35 to I 90. We will be camping and I was wondering if anyone along those routes could advise on campgrounds. We also need to know if anyone knows of a good campground in eastern Wyoming. I would appreciate any help on this. No we do not have a trailer, we are going to rough it. YamaMama:thumbsup2:

For awhile now I have been thinking about suggesting another Asheville, but like an extended M&E. This is not to compete with Vogal as I would love to get together like we did last year, except in mid June, which would be about two months before Vogal. We could make it even less planned out, camping, eating on the run or do the breakfast bashes and maybe even an afternoon hotdog feasting. If anyone wanted to go to Biltmore or another specific destination, it could be arranged, but not worry about making it a formal day outting. For those of that did or did not make Asheville last year, it was an alternative to Vogal as Lew and Charlene were not going to be available and we still wanted a south east get together. I believe about everybody that showed up had a pretty good time. I would not mind making the same KOA campground the meeting point as it worked out great for us and I did feel they did appreciate us being there. But, if we wanted to do this we could consider other options and a different campground. Anyway, just trying to get thru some PMS with the temps being 25 degrees below normal and dreaming about next summer. What do you all think? RandyA
