Federal law enforcement spokesman used the term "The suspect was armed with a vehicle" to justify a shooting and killing of a woman in California. The use of the term "armed" is what caught my eye. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/30/14161155-family-demands-answers-in-fatal-shooting-of-woman-in-car-by-border-patrol-agent?lite=obinsite

In Memphis, Tenn., New Orleans, La., and Alabama, it's against the law for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians. (This is not a bad idea in some cases..) Although women in Saudi Arabia got the right to vote in 2009, they still aren't allowed to drive a car. (I'll repeat the above... This is not a bad idea in some cases..) In San Francisco, Calif., it is illegal to wipe one's car with used underwear. (now that's downright sh*tty...) To limit road kill in Pennsylvania, driving along a country road at night requires drivers to stop every mile, send up a rocket signal and wait 10 minutes for the road to be cleared of livestock, before continuing along the route. (I heard livvin in Pennsylvania was a very "slow pace") In Sarasota, Fla., drivers are discouraged not to hit pedestrians (or you'll be fined $78). (heck, there's a few times I wouldn't mind payin...) In California, it's against the law to shoot at wild game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale. (seriously...??? LOL) In Wichita, Kansas, drivers are required to get out of their vehicle and fire three shot gun rounds into the air before proceeding through the intersection of Douglas and Broadway. (just make sure you don't hit any wild game....unless it's an whale... oh, that's in California ... never mind!) In Montreal, you may not park a car in such a way that it blocks your own driveway. (.... and prevent your spouses lover from escaping...) While some get a thrill from making out in cars, Massachusetts' law prohibits taxi drivers from having sexy time in the front row if they happen to be working (dumbass driver forgot to book off shift....) It's illegal to molest a car in Clinton, Okla. (now ya gotta be some serious weirdo to get arrested for that!) In California, no vehicle without a driver may exceed 96 km/h an hour. (... or it will be sentenced to public molestation.) If you have been convicted of driving while intoxicated in New Jersey, you'll no longer be eligible to apply for personalized license plates. (now here's a law that should be everywhere ... it would immediately put an end to DUI's ... or personalized lic plates...) Women can't wear a housecoat while behind the wheel in California. (fine... dump the houscoat ) In South Carolina it is illegal to display a replica of testicles on a vehicle. (real ones are ok though...)

I have a 1996 Royal Star XVZ13 something. I cannot for the life of me figure out what bike I have.( XVZ13A/AC/AT/ATC/LT or a LTC. I have a service manual but I seem to be broken when it comes to reading the CODES or when to start or stop reading them. Under my seat above the little tool kit it reads... 4NK1-010 C Does the C stand for? Also confused as to why inbetween my VIN code it has a 2 inbetween the two parts. I guess I am actually trying to figure out if I have a California model. I can't seem to find any parts to make it California legal..thank goodness. I bought the bike used and am confused. Thank you all, and if more info is needed just let me know. Thanks All!!!

California PGR Riders: A personal friend and Hero.. If you are a Patriot Guard Rider in the Lucerne Valley California area please know that you will most likely have an upcoming Mission for a Sgt Brian Walker, U.S Army MP, Airborne. Brian gave his ultimate sacrifice today for his country. He served with my daughter and her friend Ashley during her last deployment. It was after that deployment that they married and was on his second deployment with his wife Ashley and her sister, all Airborne. It seems it was a family deployment. Sgt. Brian Walker was a great guy, husband and friend to anybody who knew him. They just returned from mid-deployment leave and he was on a mission when his vehicle hit an IED. Sgt Walker; you served our country proudly. You will be missed. RIP my friend. We will keep you and your beautiful Hero wife and family in our prayers.

The wife and I have an opening of sorts and are throwing together a trip out to California for 3 weeks (roundtrip). We have a son attending school in Berkeley and we will tow our bunkhouse "pop up" as our hotel. Time constraints and getting the businesses set are making planning difficult. Just not enough time. We are planning on leaving East Texas Friday and head??? I wanted to hit Utah and pick up an extra wife or two. I will have to play that one by ear....but seriously, I did want to head north as the weather seems to be okay at the moment. I will play that by ear. A friend in Colorado said to avoid the State as higher elevations are getting snow. I guess what I am asking in a round about way.....any suggestions, routes, sights, eateries....anything? We are more country than city and love to ride and take in sites as well as shorter hikes and nice sites. We have California mostly planned as the son has worked on it. Any info or ideas would really be appreciated! Oh, I owe Buddy a hello from our recent Ark. trip. Hard to forget that day in Paris!!!lol

We're headed to the Oregon and N. California coast this summer and I am trying to do a little planning. On the map it appears that there are several redwood state and national parks. Which ones to visit for seeing the big trees? We're hope to hug the coast as much as possible before we turn east to Yosemite. Dennis

Stuck in Eureka, California (Sunday, July 25th) No, not me (fortunately), but my brother in-law. Lynn and his wife Cindy left Blackfoot, Idaho last Friday for a ride up the PCH and up to Forks, Washington. They got as far as Eureka today and got a flat tire on their '09 Venture. They have a place to stay this evening, but they will be in the market for a new back tire first thing in the morning. I'm not sure what kind of service he's going to be able to find in Eureka tomorrow morning, or if they will even be able to find a back tire very quickly. Anyone have any tips or suggestions I can pass-on to them to assist? Like many of us have, we too have been stuck on a road trip, and it's sure nice to know when people are available to lend a hand. Thanks guys! Be Safe. Pete.

The bike is all loaded should be out the door in about 10 mins. So all have fun. If everything goes alright I will see some of you at the Hub end of July. John

When a new California rider fills out the information on his... or her... info page it would great if they posted their home town. California is so long it's the equivalent of the distence between Jacksonville FL to NY City. Almost the entire eastern seaboard. Can you imagine what it would be like to put together a Meet'n'Eat if everyone on the east coast were lumped together into one catagory?? So if you're from Califirnia, how about adding your home town to your page. This goes for the old Ca members too.... Thanks.

For those who have followed the perils of the missing parts, I'm ready to write the final chapter. A very quick recap: Took the paintable parts off of my 99 RSV and took them to Wizard of Wheels in Crete IL to have them painted white. This was in June of 2008. The dealer parted out the job and the painter absconded with my parts! Ultimately, I got back a few of the parts, but not enough to be able to ride the bike. So, for more than a year, the bike has been on a lift in my garage. I have filed with the BBB and they were very sorry, but the dealer refused to respond and they have no authority to do anything about it. I've had numerous contacts with Yamaha Corp in California, but they are not willing to help at all. They won't even allow me to buy replacement parts at cost and insist that I go through another dealer. So, enough is enough. I'll sell my '99 to the first person who comes with $2500 in cash or money order. I have a lot of chrome and extras like passenger hwy pegs and armrests. The bike was in perfect running order as I had it maintained regularly prior to this fiasco. I'll post some pictures of the bike and the parts I have. chuck

I have a 2007 venture it had a California title. Someone told me they put more emission parts on a california bike and thats why the gas mileage is poorer. Is this a myth or not?

Hello guys I just bought an '86 VXZ13 DSC from a guy from southern Cal last fall. Now I get to repaint, refurbish and restore it. It's a great bike, 28K miles, everything works and it handles like they knew what they were doing when they put it together. Progressive springs in the front, and new Avon Venoms. I'm getting psyched about this summer. Now for my problems... Like I said, I bought it from a guy in California. I live in God's country ( Colorado ) at about 6500 feet. I want to get rid of all that crap they put on it in california for their damn government. What I want to know, if anyone has the info or knows where to get the info, is what I can get rid of and change so I can go over the Rocky Mtns with a little power. It runs extremely rich right now. Jets, floats, needles and slides....anything that will give me a little more omph and better my gas mileage. Right now, I'm probably getting 23-28 miles a gallon in the city ( haven't been on a long trip yet ) Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I have a set of carb synchronizers if anyone near Denver needs to get their carbs synch'ed. Thanks Ken

What does the California emissions do to the 85's? Should I leave it alone?Or....
-
This is probably dumb, but here goes. I purchased a used 97 RSTD (XVZ13AT) this spring from a young gentleman living in St Paul MN. The bike was originally sold new from a dealership in White Bear Lake MN as evidenced by stickers and the service records. Interestingly enough, the VIN indicates it is a California model (JYA4NLCO) vs a USA model (JYA4NLEO). Sure enough, when I crawled under the bike, there was the little "time bomb" (charcoal canister for evaporative control of the fuel system) attached to the left of the rear shock. This along with my Clymer manual tends to suggest that this is indeed a model intended for sale in California. Has anyone else run into a California certified model of this vintage originating in states other then California? Other then making adjustment of the preload on the rear suspension a little more "interesting" ,are there any maintenance issues I would need to watch for in the future (vs the 48 state model)? The bike is great, having just turned over 14,000 miles. I rode a 200 mile run with 350 other bikers this weekend commemorating 3 fallen solders from our area communities. No trouble leaving those famous V-Twins manufactured in Wisconsin in my rearview mirror when "turning up the wick" a bit!
