After 6 years of saving and planning the building has started. Im putting up a 40 by 80 pole building with 40 by 40 for a heated shop and the other half for her horses. Dirt and fill is being delivered as I write this. My final addition to my little piece of America. Got to watch the first loads being dumped on facetime. When I get home in July the building will be there and Ill put the electrical and other miscellaneous items in. I cant wait. No more tripping over the toys in the garage. What do you all have for a shop? Should I finish the interior in steel or wood? Any ideas and pics would sure help. rjjammer

I'm standing outside my building where I work, having a smoke and people watching. This is a highrise office tower, downtown Vancouver. It has this decorative "moat" of water that wraps around the front of the building, bordered by a small flower bed and concrete "bridges" to access the building. A courier guy comes out of the side door where I'm standing (no moat there) and walks towards the front of the building.... as he's walking, he's texting and obviously not paying attention .... misses the bridge and walks right into the moat! Gets out of the water, soaking wet ... and continues walking and texting!

I read this and thought it was worth passing on... you never know when that little action on your part has a big impact on somebody else. A sweet lesson on patience. A NYC Taxi driver wrote: I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware. 'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.' 'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive through downtown?' 'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly.. 'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice. I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice..'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. 'What route would you like me to take?' I asked. For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing. As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired.Let's go now'. We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her. I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. 'How much do I owe you?' She asked, reaching into her purse. 'Nothing,' I said 'You have to make a living,' she answered. 'There are other passengers,' I responded. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug.She held onto me tightly. 'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said. 'Thank you.' I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light.. Behind me, a door shut.It was the sound of the closing of a life.. I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day,I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver,or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life. We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

This was sent to me today and I found it was pretty neat so am sharing it here. Larry This is REALLY amazing! All projected onto the side of a building. Very, very cool. Clever LG ad shown on a Berlin building... just click this link to start the video if you have a player installed on your computer...

I want to trailer my Yamaha Warrior behind the Venture. Why? Well, I am going on a trip to The Dragon in May. and although I like riding the Venture, it does not give the same adreneline rush in the twisties as the Warrior. So, the Warrior (with the "mini-trailer" I'm building) will weigh in at about 700 lbs. I'm going to shoot for a tongue weight of about 50 lbs. I weigh in at about 205, so will this be ok?

Two men are sitting at the bar at the top of the Empire State Building drinking, when the first man turns to the other one and says: "You know, last week I discovered that if you jump from the top of this building, by the time you fall to the 10th floor, the wind around the building is so intense that it carries you around the building and back into the window." The bartender just shakes his head in disapproval while wiping the bar, but says nothing. The second guy says, "What? Are you insane? There's no way in heck that could happen!" "No, it's true," said the first man, "let me prove it to you." He gets up from the bar, jumps over the balcony and plummets toward the street below. When he passes the 10th floor, the high wind whips him around the building and back into the 10th floor window and he takes the elevator back up to the bar. He meets the second man, who is astonished. "You know, I saw that with my own eyes, but that must've been a one-time fluke. That was scientifically impossible!" "No, I'll prove it again," says the first man as he jumps. Again, just as his body hurtles towards the street, the 10th floor wind gently carries him around the building and into the window. He takes the elevator back to the bar. Once upstairs, he successfully urges his dubious fellow drinker to try it. "Well, what the heck," the second guy says, "I've seen that it works, so I'll try it!" He immediately jumps over the balcony - plunges downward - rapidly passes the 11th, 10th, 9th, 8th floors ...his body hits the sidewalk with a loud "splat." Back upstairs, the bartender who had been silent the whole time turns to the first drinker, and shakes his head. He says, "You know, Superman, you're a mean drunk."

So- I finally decided to build a bike! It may take a while, but eventually I'll get it right! Here's a pic of what I have so far: http://www.nps.gov/plants/sos/training/typicalshipment/images/Step%2001%20Empty%20Box.jpg But seriously folks, my old man has an basket case FXDWG that needs to be put together, and he's agreed if I build it, I can ride it until he sells it. So if you have any spare building materials laying around let me know! The building is done, I just have to insulate it, wire it, and do the interior walls. It won't be a Venture, but considering the pickle I'm in (identity theft, baby on the way, and return of the inguinal hernia) I'm not gonna be too picky!

If anyone is building their own trailer the attached link might be for you. I think this is a good deal? First off thanks to randy and laura for meeting us for supper in bristol on Good Friday. We had a nice evening with friends.Ramona and I meet with a log home mfg and viewed our dream retirement home.We were very impressed with the quality and hand hewn work.I called one of my banks up and was surprised that they financed new construction building with land. Now the hard part. I have thought all week while on vacation about all the reasons I should not do this (recession, job security, and being 50 years old with a mortgage starting). On the other hand (interest rates are low,we want to move, and besides our property is a good investment and a new home will grow in value).I don't know of any more prime real estate being mfg.People are building on the hillsides now and where ever they can find land.I thought about saving enough money to put a shell up under roof then finishing it little by little with cash but that would take about 10 years. I would have less time to enjoy it and my 10 year old son wouldn't get a chance to grow up there and enjoy fishing, swimming, the ball field, and all the other things lake front property has to offer.I have a meeting with several contractors to put together a turn key job and we will look at those numbers.I'm sure we will be shocked at the bottom line but 20 years from now those same numbers will be like small change.I may have to sell a few assets like a first gen or two.

I have had a dish for work at work for the last 4 years. I couldn't get dsl unless I paid $4000.00 to get it installed. I would have been the first in this area so I bought the dish. It sets on top of our 1 1/2 story building. This winter has been very bad with snow hanging up on the dish. I looked on the INTERNET to get ideas on how to solve this problem. Spraying with what ever W-D 40 or the likes. Came across some stuff called DOME MAGIC. Ordered the can and I got it back in November. I can't put it on yet cause the temp. needs to be between 60 and 110. Fat chance of that happening for awhile. I had to go up and brush the snow off again today after Saturday's snow fall. The roof is pitched and I fall every time I come back down. The last part of the roof is not pitched very much so I don't worry about going all the way down to the ground. What a pain this is to deal with. I should move the dome to the side of the building where I could reach it from the ground but there is really not a good place to do that. Does anyone know of something you can put on in the middle of winter that would make the snow slide off?

Looked down today on my way home and I am passing 55 in 5th while running 2600 RPM, about 500 shy of normal. coming to a stop I am showing about 1900 which slowly drops down to about 12. Seems somthing is sticking. Outside temp was about 57, although she was sitting in an unheated building which was considerably colder. Is this a cable drive? (Can't find it in the service manual) If not, can you lubricate the RPM gauge?

I arrived at the address where someone had requested a taxi. I honked but no one came out. I honked again, nothing. So I walked to the door and knocked. I am scheduled to go to Reston, Va for a week at the end of July. Question I have for you folks up that way is. Is there any good riding to be done up in that area? I'm sure there is, but it would be nice to know from those who live in the area, or those who have traveled it. It's been over 10 years since I have been in that area, back then it was some beautiful country, but A LOT of building going on. Thanks.

Well guys its that time again. As you recall I posted last year about a haunted walk at a camp that we do as a fund raiser. Well this year we are at it again for year 27 and this is my 4th. Last year we raised 100K for Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches LI NY. The camp is for Disabled children and is funded by fundraiser like this to meet special needs. This year in the Building that I help with we are Doing the Phycho Circus. And in addition to Ringmaster Skinner I get to Play Sawzall the Clown! We also have a new building and have a new addition in that buiiding. VTirelli's Stepdaughter is also a character in one of the other houses. He and Sam should be proud that she wants to help in the cause make difference to these kids. I will post pics soon.
