I went to Costco, and was looking at big screen tvs- thought I could buy one with the insurance money I got from the Yamaha. Then I thought, I could die of an embolism in front of that thing watching other people have fun, so against the advice of (some) family and friends, I have resolved to use that money to rebuild the Yamaha RSV from the frame up! The new (to me) frame arrived today. I am stripping the old frame of everything not broken, and buying used to replace what was to keep the costs down. Hopefully I will heal before the bike does My question is- in the wreck, the left rear mounting lug for the engine stay was broken off, but the forward one is ok. How important are the engine stays and can I get by without changing the head? Will only one lug on the left be ok?

I know it says Honda but should probably work on other bikes. http://www.addonaccessories.net/shop_details.asp?cat=%2DGL1800+%2A%2ANew%2A%2A&prod=%2A%2ANEW%2A+SIDE+COVER+REPAIR+STUDS+2011

I've got my carbs ready to go back on, and was installing the throttle cables. When I was guiding the bottom THROTTLE OPEN cable, it let me know that it needs to be replaced....it has a couple of broken strands. On one of the 'other' Venture sites I used to belong to, the subject of broken throttle cables on Gen 1's with cruise control used to come up periodically. I never used to pay too much attention to the details though, because my 83 is a Standard and doesn't have cruise. Of course, my 89 does. Does anybody remember the details?? Was it only Mk I bikes? Which cable breaks? Frank D.

Yeah I know, it's the watering hole, but some of the 2nd genners might be able to help me with this also. I am looking for a right side upper fairing cover, the one that holds the speaker and right side components. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd like one that is all there. This '83 I'm playing with right now needs one in a bad way as it's pretty much all gone and broken. If any of you brothers can help me out I'd appreciate it

Just got a text from his wife. Not sure the story but will find out. She said it is totalled. He has a broken zygomatic arch in cheekbone, broken right hand, and a detached retina. Of course bruises along with it. Surgery will repair all of that and his is ok. She said lot of front damage and fairing. He is up in SAMC so we will try and stop by to check on him. Sappermedic (Brian Wilkerson a.k.a. goes by Wilkie) Lives outside S.A. in Converse He must be doing ok, she just texted and said he is worried about his bike and not making the fall run to Leakey. How much fuel is left in the tank when the last bar on the gauge goes away?? The knob for the reserve valve on mine was broken off when I bought her so I don't know if it's set to reserve or not.

Roadside Marine in Williston VT. When I did my clutch upgrade I must had either pinched the gasket or didn't scrape it off good and now I have a very small leak. I stopped to get a new gasket and the one they had was broken but he gave me a tube of stuff they use and said try this with the broken gasket and just drop the tube off when I have a chance. He gave me the broken gasket no charge. They are great people there.

Before I send them to the garbage, Are there any good reason to hang onto plastic that are broken, with chunks torn off, way beyond reasonable repair. As spare for my 89 VR of similar color.

I need one of the metal braces/brackets for my 88 trunk It's on the right side (looking from the rear of the bike) It's the offset "L" shaped bracket that runs up the front side of the base section, bends towards the center of the bottom and has the flared plate on the end with 4 mounting holes Mine is broken in two, PO had it welded (badly) and it broke again. If anyone has one , please let me know and we'll work something out. Thanks

Hello Everyone: Despite being in the black hills during the Sturgis rally the past 5 or 6 years we have never attended a concert. Until last year we stayed in Custer and always did day rides. Last year we stayed in Sturgis but still did not attend any concerts. I noticed on the web that concerts ticket prices at the Full Throttle range from $45-$60. Bluffalo Chip $52.50-$62.50. But concert tickets at the Broken Spoke for non campers like ourselves are only $20 each. Does anyone have experience with concerts during the rally and can explain the large difference in cost between the Broken Spoke and the others. My wife wants to ride DaBus and attend an evening concert. Is that crazy? Any thoughts or experiences are welcome. Thanks

I bought this really nice aftermarket headlight that was advertised as fitting an RSV using my existing bracket. Problem is you have to remove the mounts that are welded onto the metal headlight case of the stock headlight and glue them onto the plastic housing of the replacement headlight. Not wanting to destroy my stock headlight before I fit the new one, and not wanting to pay $50 plus shipping from Pinwall, I thought I would check to see if anybody has a broken one setting around that I can canabalize for the mounts...

No not the bike. Just me. Climbing on some rocks with wet shoes. You guessed it, I took the fast way down. ended up with 2 cracked ribs, a broken pinky toe and a good knot on my head. I did see stars. SO DON'T MAKE LAUGH with any snide comments, that hurts.

This is how I fixed my broken windshield bracket tabs on my 2004 RSV. I used a wire tie around the speaker boss and wrapped it around the windshield bracket. i cut a piece of rubber off the windshield bracket so the wire tie would be flush.

This morning my friend Steve and his wife Becky were leaving SoCal on a trip to Texas. There was a light misty drizzle and doing 35 on a long sweeper right hand turn their front tire hit an oily spot and they crashed severely injuring both of them. Steve has 4 broken ribs and Becky is in ICU on life support with numerous broken bones and trauma. Please say a prayer for these two and help them make it back to health again! Prayer is a powerful tool! Thank you! Brian BigDawg

I'm realizing the the VR I have is an '84, not an '83 (licensed as an '83) Anyhoo, the turnsignal switch needs to be replaced. It is the unit with the choke lever circled around the handlebar end. PN 41R-83973-00-00. Anybody have any leads to where I can purchase one? I've tried the NOS Yamaha dealers on Google, but no dice. I read the thread about taking it apart and cleaning it, but the way it feels when I try to use it, I'm thinking it has something physically broken inside. I can also see the tiny balls and springs disappearing onto my garage floor, so I prone to replace it, if possible. I found some used ones on E-bay, but who knows what you get that way. Don't need TWO broken switches! Any help greatly appreciated.

Where can I find liner snaps for the EXO-900 transformer helmets? There are plastic snaps that attach the liner to the helmet. The receiver/female piece on several is broken. Replacing the liner will only replace the male part. I can not find any online. Any suggestions?

I have always wanted to fly "OLD GLORY" on my bike, but have heard from others stories of broken antenna mast's one after the other. Has anyone come up with a solution to this matter?

I have a 2005 Tour Deluxe with the original battery (bought Oct, 2004). The bike has a touch over 24,000 miles and is for sale here and in other places. Whether it sells or not, I would hate for the buyer or me to get stranded when the battery dies. I hate to fix something that is not broken, and this original battery works just like it did from day one - but its days have to be over/near over. What is the BEST battery I can replace this OEM battery with? Thanks. Jim

83 model, bought the bike w/22k, now 33k. Pulled in the clutch (didn't "feel" right) shifted to first, lunged forward. went to shift to second, still in 1st. Housing is broke, hav TIG access, I'm not concerned, as I can weld it back together. I am concerned with the way the shaft "feels"(might be broken) The 437 page pdf manual doesn't really address the transmission shifting shaft. Thinking about purchasing a Clymer manual. Thought I would check with all the Venture Rider wisdom first. Previous owner installed floor boards and heel/toe shifter.
