  1. I just received news that a local rider and his wife went down in Indiana, the preliminary reports were that he lost control when the rear tire blew out. I know him and he is a pretty conservative rider. His wife did not survive the crash and he is in bad shape. My training was always, let off the gas, no breaks and steer to the side slowing down gradually. I have never experienced a blow out in all my years of riding, I have had tires gradually go flat. Please respond as to your experience with a blow out and any tips for riding it out. We will keep our friend and family in thoughts and prayers.
  2. I'm looking at buying a Long fram Tractor 1529 and was wondering if anyone here has one or used a long tractor in the past and any info. as for good or bad? I searched the net and seen good reviews on them but I was wondering if any in the family here has any views on them? Its kinda rough looking like me lol. but it runs really good no blow by and I see no leaks-diesel-oil-hyd. etc etc has new tires and lifts the 5ft brush hog with no problems so hyd. seem good.
  3. I need to replace the front pads on my 97 tour deluxe. Have not gotten into it yet, was wondering if there is a blow by blow out there for this particular job. Not sure if there are any tricks that help it go smoothly..

  5. My 06 RSV has 12.8V / 30W auxillary bulbs in it now and I would like something brighter. Before I start to experiment and blow fuses, how high can I go on the Watts before I start to blow fuses? On my last bike I actually had 40W landscaping lights and they worked well. They are the exact same bulb size as what is in there now. I am not really interested in spending a ton of money on the LEDs and I would like the lights to still match the headlight. Thanks Mongo
  6. Move over Superman.....cause BEER30 is here. What a trip going to MD. After leaving MD, Becky and I set off to Mass. to see the grandchildren. We survived the 3 days we spent with a 2 and 3 year old and love every moment of the visit. Then we left Mass. to the West Point Academy to visit a friend and business associate. On this leg of the journey, we encountered marble sized hail, heavy rain, 60 mph crosswinds. This mourning we had a dump truck 60 feet in front of us blow his driver's side rear tire. We were in the inside lane as he was in the outside lane. Road debris peppered us and chunks of the tire flew directly over our heads. Becky ducked right behind me when the tire went BOOM! We were doing slightly over 70 mph and the caged that was following swerved directly in front of us when the tire blew. When I heard and seen the tire blow, I immediately went hard on the brakes to abruptly slow down and then had to speed up enough to not have the tire chunks fall on top of us as well. Luckily there were no others riding our rear when it happened. It was like the Matrix, I tell ya ! Bike and Becky sustained no damage, nor the BEERCART. However I got a small piece of road debris stick in my right arm that annoyed me all day. Nothing that a beer couldn't take care of to say the least. The rest of the day was hot, and then severe rain off and on. We must have stopped and put on rain gear 4 times today. Finally arrived at home before 10:00 pm. Right at 3,000 miles from start to finish. Also in this post, I like to thank Freebird and the Mrs. and to all my friends (old and new) for the Great time at MD. BEER30
  7. 3 days plus with no power, luckily had propane heaters in mancave. Missed 2 days of work, electric company tells me we'll get someone out there to check it out. Well, since power line was yanked from my house above the mast I highly doubt them getting power to poles (which I might add we had numerous catch fire, blow up transformers like fireworks on the 4th of July etc...) is going to put power in my home. Had to chase down a crew working down the street from me to tell them it was pulled from house and not from power coming alone. All I can say is !!!!!Enough snow, Enough ice, Enough cold JUST ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!
  8. Just had a BIG Tstorm blow through here ... I didn't get out and batten down the hatches ... blew wooden rockers and stuff off the porch (at least it didn't blow them through the windows!! I should of got them in) but I think we still got a roof on the house and the fence is mostly up!! Got to go check the garage!! I see it's either there or heading your way Mini!!
  9. My rear tire (yes, it is a car tire) on my RSTD has had a slow leak in it few several weeks now. This morning I found what looks like a small nail or brad it the center of the tread. I don't know how I missed it. I even had a buddy look for nails while I slowly backed the bike. The question is: have you ever run a tire (c/t or m/t) on a motorcycle with a plug in it? If I am going to the trouble to pull it off to patch it on the inside, then I will probably go ahead an put a new tire on. But I am seriously considering plugging it. I know the thinking that on a car, you still have three more tires should it fail, but I have never had a plug to blow out of a tire before. Leak air yes, but not blow out. Give me some feedback, please. Jeff
  10. All of the sudden I started blowing the fuse for blinker and gauges. I replace it and my volt gauge will show 13 for a while then bounce down to 8. Sometimes it comes back up but not always but the fuse will then blow again. Any Ideas???
  11. My 05 RSTD has been running rough the last two times I used it for the first few miles and yesterday when I started it one of the carb. must have a stuck float. It was running fuel out of the blow by hose. Has anyone else had problems with this or the new fuel with alcohol? Thanks Bill
