  1. So many of you guys have a lot more mechanical wisdom than I do so I am posting this question for your opinions..... I recently went completely through my bike getting it restored (99RSV), new paint, new parts, new mods, blah blah, blah- you get the point. When we reinstalled the gas tank getting everything put back together the low fuel indicator light now stays on. The contacts appear to be good and I cleaned them for good measure(where they connect in front of the tank), still the light stays on. This morning I replaced the fuel thingy in the tank.....still same problem. Now though here's what happens: Turn key on, get correct fuel level reading on gauge momentarily then all fuel bars blink 7 times pause, blink 8 times pause, blink 8 times again, then only the top fuel bar continues to blink(the bar for totally full) none of the other bars light, meanwhile the low fuel indicator remains lit. The tank has about 5 gallons of gas in it. One more thing I will include is that I replaced all my indicator lights in the dash with LEDs which take much less wattage to operate are a lot brighter and have a long long life. What are your thoughts ?? :detective:
  2. Here's the scoop: 1985 Venture Royale 148,000 km New stator and RR AGM battery showing 12.36 volts, sitting for 36 hours All lights are LEDs except for headlight, signals and driving lights. LEDs are wiring in to the running light circuits at random, and brake lights are LEDs as well. Outside temp about 10 degrees C or 50 degrees F Here's the gremlin(s) Wayne and I were out for a ride on Wednesday night. Rode for about 1.5 hours then stopped for coffee. Wayne said that one of my LED banks in my trunk was flickering, so after coffee went out to check it out. I turned on the key to light up my life and low and behold, NONE of the LEDs were working. I tried again but still nothing. So I fired up the scoot and revved it up, blink, blink and all the lights were working. Turned everything off and had the same scenario. So I drove home figuring to check it out and fix the issue. Now I don't have any issues at all,,,,can't get it to repeat. Did I leave the gremlins at Timmies, or are they hiding somewhere?
  3. I have an 1987 Venture Royale and seem to replace my battery too often. Granted I do not ride it enough, so part of it is my fault. Anyway, if I were to go with a sealed battery it does not allow for my sensor. Then again what is the worst that will happen, the dummy warning will just blink all the time? I'd also like to get one soon rather than order it, so are there any common places to pick one up such as a K-Mart, Autozone, etc.?
  4. I am having a couple issues with my bike that I would like some input on. The first is a "popping" sound when the bike is cold, sounds like a bad exhaust gasket but only last for the first few minutes when I start it then goes away. Second is a small backfire through the carbs when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and on up but almost never from 1st to second. Third bad fork seals from factory? My new fork seals seem to be leaking already with less than 100 miles on them. And lastly are the turn signals. They are weird, blink 3 times then a pause then blink 3 times then pause and so on, any ideas? This is quite a list but any help would be rather appreciated. My wife found an 87 for $1000 but I refuse to give up on this old scoot. Shaun
  5. We've all been there, where to ride, been there, done that so I just hop on the old bike and decide to follow where my turn signals go blink blink blink.Southwest OH and southeast IN on a short ride but I thought I would just take a few pics along the way for the fun of it. I think it was october last year so I pop up out of my hole in the ground to make sure it is safe to ride.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/919.jpg Have a little look around... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/918.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/920-1.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/916.jpg So I hit the road to nowhere.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/901.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/904.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/902.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/905.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/903.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/909-1.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/908.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/910.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/913.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/912.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/915.jpg Just a two hour ride to nowhere but it was worth it. Short rides and a few overniters is about all I have time for but I always look forward to them.http://www.ohioriders.net/images/smilies/ridingmotorcycle.gif

i bought a harbor freight trailer to pull behind the bike i wired the thing like it said but im having problems. when i turn on the key the running lights come on and everything looks fine but when i hit the break the right light goes out and the left light gets bright when i turn on the right or left blinker both tail lights blink this is really pissing me off its only 4 damn wires how could it be this hard? please help as i really need it Ace
  8. Hey Guys/Gals: Thought I would post this so if any one else has this problem I might help. Purchased from Custom Dynamics LED boards to replace both the front and rear turn signals on an 05 RSV. Also purchased a 4 amp load equalizer from them as well (turned out to be a Kuryakyn 4807 load equalizer). Changed out the bulbs on the left side placed the load equalizer on the rear harness, turned on the key to "ON" and the blink rate was fast, went to the local shop and got a 2 amp and wired it in to the front harness. Still no change in the blink rate. Wrote to Kuryakyn for help. Since the fairing was split and the seat off I decided to move the bike to the side of my garage. Started the bike up and for the "hell of it" hit the directional signal switch, damn if they didn't blink at the normal rate. Go figure!!!!!!! So if any of you have replaced your lights with LED's and fine the blink rate fast added a load equalizer and it is still fast, kick the bike over, they may slow down. Figured I would give you this piece of advice so others will not have go through the same thing as I did. BTW 116 & 1157 have a 2amp draw, so a 2amp load equalizer on both harnesses should do the trick. Sponge Bob Tucson AZ It's a dry heat.
  9. Floresville's not a very big town. We do have two signal lights and you can blink and not miss it... just don't blink very many times. I stopped by the store to pick up a few things and there it was... a 1st gen parked right up front! I looked around and didn't see any one who looked like a rider so I went inside. Fairly good sized store... didn't see a suspect. Bought what I needed and went out... no more bike. I headed for the nearest gas... and there it was! I talked to him a bit. He didn't know about this site (but he does now). Said he lived here in town, but sent most of his time on the road. Made me think of Wild Hair! It's an '83 1200. Robert said that riding 5k a month is not unusual. Just got back from Florida. Says the scooter has about 290,000 miles on it.
  10. I searched through previous posts and could not an exact answer to my delema, so I'll ask again. I'm getting ready for an upcoming trip and did a walk around check of my lights last night and discovered that my front turn signals barely blink and aren't very distinguishable as to which side is actually doing the flashing. Back signals work great. I also tried my Hazard lights and found that they don't work at all. Anyone had a similiar problem that might have some ideas where to check. I looked through the service manual but can't find anything specific to my problem. Appreciate any and all responses. Thanks, Bobby Lane "birddog"
