  1. This is a follow up to the post I made about the wife needing a new seat and backrest, I added Ultimate seats, a DMY trunk with lighted spoiler and rack and passenger floorboards. Probably not many Royal Star Tour Classics with this set up! The white matches pretty close would like to have had matching blue but paint wasn't an issue right away. Mounted on starboard and had the short sissy bar bent at a 60 degree angle after turning it over, Thanks to Phoneman for the idea! What do ya'll think? 2. Crashed the bike last night coming home in the rain. No problem on the pavement or the county gravel road, but I only made it 1/4 mile down the road to the house before the front wheel started skidding in the mud. I was in first gear going slow, but the bike acts like a pig on ice when the front tire starts sliding... And down I went. It pitched me off the left side as it hit the ground. I'm fine, but unfortunately the bike isn't. I was able to pick it up and ride it out of the ditch and on down to the house. Adrenaline is a wonderful thing! Driving light mount is bent, lower left side fairing is busted, left crash bars bent, windshield and fairing scratched, and where the rear left speaker is also cracked. Could have been worse. Just last week we were just talking with the neighbors about buying some more gravel for our road...
  3. I just bought this chrome radiator grill from ebay. It cleaned up nicely. Just one thing, the bottom left corner is bent in and there are some hairline stress lines on the chrome. You can't feel the stress lines. There are two very small spots on the curved edge part where the chrome has chipped. On the back side you can see and feel where the chrome has buckled. I want to bent it back out but am concerned about the chrome. Being that it is on the bottom one probably can't see the bend and so I could just leave it bent. I've included 3 pictures. 1) Good Right side, 2) Bent Left side, 3) Hairline Stress lines. The camera seemed to have enhanced the stress lines more than it really looks. I've not rebent chrome pieces myself and so open to advise. Is there something one should put on the shipped chrome to prevent it from gettnig worst. Also I believe there is supposed to be a "V" Venture Emblem top center. Where can one get them?
  4. ... for getting a bit "bent out of shape"
  5. I like using the centerstand on my 86' Venture. When packing/unpacking the trailer/bike combo it's very handy. Of course, getting the bike on the stand is beastly but I'm a strong guy and am well rehearsed even fully laden. Anyway..... About a month ago I was putting it up on the stand and the foot pushing part just bent. My question is how do I get the centerstand off? I plan on welding a big old, some sort of repair. Thanks in advance. Great forum!
  6. I took my 06 RSV to have the rear shock inspected a couple of weeks ago just before the warranty ran out. I mentioned to the mechanic (who I have come to trust over the years) that after I installed my rear wheel with new tire mounted it seemed like the rear brakes were dragging but I hadn't really paid any attention to it before removing the rear wheel. This first thing he asked me was if I had marked the axle location (referring to rotation) before removing it. I said no I never do. He said that he had a customer one time that complained about a noise after having a tire installed somewhere else out of state. He knows about the pins needing greased, etc. and noticed that the axle was bent so he ordered a new one from Yamaha. When the new one came in it was bent also. So he called Yamaha and they said "Yes, that's the way they are. You need to install the axle and rotate it noting when the wheel spins free or tight and then tighten it at the best place." The mechanic said that did indeed fix the problem and he now always checks and then marks any axle he does in relation to the swingarm so he doesn't have to check it the next time he works on it. I have an appointment this week to have the rear shock replaced and I told him that I want the dragging brakes checked. I intend to ask him what he means by "bent" because we have a machine at work that we use to straigten precision ballscrews for our positioners and I could have it straightened. Has anyone else ever heard of this condition? I didn't think I had ever seen a post about it.
  7. I just bought this 06 RSV a few weeks ago. It had what I thought was a bent side stand on it because they had modified it by welding about a 3 inch block of steel on the bottom of the stand to keep the bike up to a decent angle. Well I picked up another stand from a gentleman here and put it on today. It leaned over WAY too much. So I propped the bike back up and looked and the only think I can think of is the bracket on the frame that the stand attaches to must be bent or the frame is twisted... So since it's still under warranty I took it in and dropped it off. They are going to look at it on Friday and call it in to see if it's covered... So a couple of questions for you guys: 1. Should this be covered? 2. If it's not covered, what are my options to "modify" it so it will work. The modified stand I have works but will drag the ground in a moderate left lean through a turn... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  8. Well, I went hunting today and bagged my first Duck, with my '08 RSV Passing Lamps at about 70 km/h (45 mph). I have the Yamaha OEM Lightbar, you know the one, with the CRAP Sealed Beams! Coming home tonight from work, I noticed the left one is pointing down a bit compared to the right beam. It does not appear to be bent, so how do you adjust the lamp buckets up and down?? My riding buddy has 13 confirmed kills this season, so I am happy I am no longer feeling left out!
  9. Thanks for the help getting my VR running again. It was my ignition, took it apart & the contact plate was bent. I straightened it & put back in it RUNS:fatsmiley: thanks Al
  10. In the past with other bikes I've owned, I always came up needing a part that's near impossible to find. After months of searching for some parts, I came across a couple of motorcycle "Wreckers" in the Greater Vancouver area. Unfortunately, one closed it's doors, but the other is always busy with people looking for what they need and the owner helping out whenever possible. That second location is a business called "Bent Bike" located in Langley BC. I thought it would be a worthwhile thread for people to list any recyclers in their area to form a resource for those looking for parts for their aging bikes. For example, I walked in the door today and hanging up in the rafters is the left side saddle bag for an '84 Royale, no lid was visable but apparently they have a lot of other plastic from that bike. I'll put the contact info below and if the powers that be find that this isn't a good idea, feel free to delete this thread, (or make it a sticky if it's worth it...) 11. Hi, Question?? My radio/ cassette on my 83 VR cuts in and out... Will sound fine out of both speakers while idling.. Put it in gear and sometimes it cuts out.. sometimes goes to one speaker or the other, sometimes sounds great. Same with Cass. Perfect at times.. almost nil at others.. a good bang on the volume switch will occasionally fix it otherwise not.. I have heard that the pins sometimes are bent or do not connect well... Looking at another radio or 2 on e-bay... not the best luck? Any similar experiences or successes. I have thought about retro fitting a marine radio. but would really prefer to keep factory.. Clay
  12. I was wanting to know if they make this piece the same for all the years between 83-93? The reason I am asking is because when I put my bike back together again and started riding it my front fender is hitting on the radiator cover and scratching my paint off. I have two different sets of these top and bottom and I don't know which set they used. I know where this is a front end crash that it could have very well bent the frame but I don't see where it is bent and I am hoping that I can just change these and change the rake on the front of the bike. I also notice when I ride it that it is hard to control at very low speeds. 1988 venture with no air in front forks
  13. I purchased an 03 RSV at a good price and I'm trying to get right before I re sell it. It has new tires, brakes and the head bearings seem to be right according to the adjustment info supplied here for bump and return of the front end as posted. The problem is that when you go into a turn you feel as if you have to muscle it. You almost have to pull with one hand and push with the other. It is not as smooth as my 1999 RSV. I have a suspicion that something may be out of alignment or bent. Anyone have any ideas as to how to check if something is bent (ie: fork leg)? Any help is appreciated.
  14. Okay since I'm laid-off now i finally have time to work on the bike. Got busy today and so far have the motor pulled out of the bike and waiting for help to put it on the work bench. bad part about being laidoff is all your help is working for money when you try and get them to help. Anyhow sofar no signs of cracks in the case but the drive shaft appears bent and the output shaft of the motor has broken off. Not sur what thi means for what i might find inside the motor but has me hopeing i can repair and not have to part out
  15. Hi, I was worried about the excessive lean when my red bike is on the side stand. I read all the old posts about 1st gen side stand problems. Interesting and informative thought they were, I don't see the answer I need. Looks to me like my s.s. is bent, I will try to describe it cause its all rainy out and I am feeling too lazy to get out the camera and usb cables etc. Please bear with me. The gap, formed by the two flanges at the top of the side stand, where it hinges on the frame flange, seem to be spread apart. I measure 9.5 mm at the bottom of the channel but 11.5 mm at the opening. It looks to me, like the two flanges have been bent apart, not that they have worn down. The P.O. didn't have the bolt done up very tight as it took almost no effort to undo it. The s.s. slopped up and down quite a lot before I took it apart. The pivot bolt also appears to be bent. It looks to me like the bend is right at the thin section between the shoulder and the top of the threaded section. Its slight, so to be sure my old eyes weren't playing tricks, I put the end of the threaded section in my drill chuck and spun it. There is definitely a bend there as the head wobbles about 2.5 mm off centre I'd estimate. The arm of the stand has a bend in it too but I think that is actually cast into it. I have confirmed it looks similar to the one on my other bike. So what to do, what to do? I am tempted to put the pivot end of the stand in the vise and squeeze it till the flange gap closes to a uniform 9.5 mm. Then re install, with some grease, and reef the bolt down tight and lock it up with the lock nut. I am aware that this is a cast part and cast iron is brittle and not known for being forgiving in this way. I am afraid I might snap a flange off. Even if it appears successful and I make it through to the reassembly stage, I am afraid that I will have introduced some fatigue in the metal which will come back to bite me later on, likely when parked next to a Rolls Royce or a Mazeratti. Any opinions on this? Anyone got a known good s.s. & bolt for sale? Other suggestions? Thanks, Brian H.
  16. Since I'm too lazy to go out and check myself I thought I'd pop the question. When removing the rear upper frame assembly, do I need to worry about it being a part of the support holding the frame together, and will it make things go very bad...very quickly if not supporting the chasis. Tom Patterson's old '90 parts bike took a shot to the rear and bent up the trunk mount and frame, and lo-and-behold I actually have another upper... to replace the bent one. The rest of the frame looks pretty straight. I just wanted to make sure that the whole rig doesn't go ka-plooey when I take out that last bolt....
  17. The gas mileage on my bike sucked at around 20 mpg, I had two carbs that seemed to be leaking and my last ride the other day the bike ran like crap. So I took the carbs off and apart looking for whatever i could find that might be causing problems. Before taking carbs off i did the float/ fuel level check and the level on three carbs where 3/8" below fuel level mark and the fourth (#3) was 5/8" below. Took carbs apart, bent tangs on floats down a littlebit, Reassembled carbs put them back on did fuel level in bowl check again and all carbs showed about 3/4" below mark. That ddn't make sense. Took carbs back off and apart, bent tangs up, put back carbs together, reinstalled did check again and gas wouldn't show in tube for any of the carbs. So, I took them apart again bent tangs back down. reassembled, reinstalled did check and bowl fuel level showed 3/8" below mark on all carbs. I figured at this point they were better than they were so I'd try to run her to see if there was any improvement. Put the air box back on and cranked her. Now she's surging and dumping gas on the ground through the four overflow tubes that run down frame to the ground.:bang head: Did I mention that I really hate these carbs. Can anyone offer any help?

My son traded his Honda VTX 1800 for this Friday. I rode it yesterday. Wow this thing is fast and really likes the curves, but I don't like the bent over ride with the head back. Too old for this but it was fun. http://www.suzukicycles.com/images/ProductImages/colorVariations/500/GSXR1000K8_matteBlack_000000.jpg
  19. So today I'm riding to Kailua-Kona with my trailer in tow. Had to go to a meeting for the Ironman Triathlon being held here tomorrow (that's another thread...). So I'm moving about 65 when I see from the corner of my eyes a flock/herd/group/bunch of sheep running at a 45* angle towards me! They must have broken out of their pen or something. I swerve into the oncoming lane and the front right side of my trailer slams into one of them!! It bent my fender into the tire and the edge of it started to burn through the tire. The wheel then went over the sheep (I guess; I wasn't really looking) and I was able to get back into my lane and stop about 200' down the road at the entrance to the Big Island Country Club. I bent the fender back (wow those are tough!) and saw that my tire was okay. I changed my underwear and looked back to see the sheep laying in the road. I didn't bother to go back. It wasn't there a few hours later when I passed by again. Bottom line...I screwed up. I didn't sound my Stebel. I didn't speed up to reduce their angle of "attack" nor did I slow down really. I just swerved. Basically I feel God saved my bacon today...wish he would have done something about my underwear. For the record, I DID NOT go doo-doo my pants.
  20. Looking for 86 to 93 left side bag guard/mounting frame. I had a meeting with the front end of a stop sign running suv. I've straightened the rear subframe and I think I can repair some of the plastic, but the guard is too bent up. Thanks

  22. I have a 2002 and the trunk only opens wide enough to squeeze the helmet in. I checked the bar on the left hand side to see if it was bent but it is traveling all the way to the end. Is this normal for the trunks or can I do something to make it open more?
  23. Finally got around to installing the parts I bent up when I dropped my 05.... Total of the damage wasn't bad, thanks to Ponch who 'donated' the trim ring for the headlight. I replaced the headlight and passing light visors, checked the front fairing really well and it diesn't seem damaged.....engine guard was saved by the highway pegs, so I really made out ok. I'm going to add the slightly bent visors to Eck's list...they're usable, and might need some straightening. Also going to make the headlight trim available if anyone needs one really badly. Its usable, just has a crack in it. Now if I only had time to ride the stupid thing!!!
  24. I'm short a left side brake disc, for my spare front wheel. 1989, 1st gen. I bought a set, on E-bay last year, but the left one was Bent. Anyway, if anybody has one laying around, if interested in selling ???
