  1. My 2005 RSMV was involved in a wreck before I bought it. After carefully looking it over I decided to buy it. They did a great job fixing everything that was bent or broken, but I noticed a misalignment of the panels on the Left lower leg protectors. During Christmas vacation I had time to tear into it and see what was going on. The left engine guard/crash bar is slightly tweaked. I might be able to bend it back, but I thought I would post on here to see if anybody would by chance have one they would want to sell? I found a couple on e-bay, but they don't look like they are completely there or in good shape. There was a new one, but it was $260!!
  2. I'm having a challenge installing my clearview xxl tinted shield. First, I come to a conclusion that I need to get all 4 longer screws. The shield thickness is much thicker than my stock shield making the stock screws too short.. Second the shield curve up by the mirror installation, where the screw goes in, there is a bend in the shield to match the curvature of the faring. The bend does not butt up to the curvature of the faring. When I screw the screw in with the metal washer/collar, in order to get the screw tight I'm pushing the shield bend towards the fairng until the metal washer/coller butts up to the bracket. Is the bend of the shield suppose to butt up again the faring or is it ok to just screw the screw in with the metal washer/collar tight until the metal washer/collar butts up against the bracket. I'd appreciate talking to someone who recently installed a clearview xxl & tall shield on an MKII.
  3. The question is to anyone that has installed the HD licence plate light bar on their bike. What has anyone done to finish off the 90 degree bend at the top of the bracket with the two holes in it. I believe the two holes were used to bolt it to a tour pack or frame work that the tour pack is attached to. With the RSTD the bend is very visible since we do not have a rear trunk, it's not that it is terribly distasteful, it just looks like something is missing.
  4. RK pipes I got for $75, and the 1 3/4" 20 degree bend pipe. I'm not too happy about the bend, but it shouldn't affect the performance much. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-23_17-34-48_914.jpg Hanging the pipes from the bag hangers. I had to drill out the threads to accept the larger bolt that threads into the pipe hanger. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-23_18-16-48_484.jpg I used some rubber grommets with a spacer inside to drop the pipes so they don't hit the bottom of the bags, and to isolate the vibration. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-24_17-52-12_618.jpg http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-24_17-58-10_692.jpg Here's what they look like from the side. I'm still working out the connector pipe dimensions, I may have to put more of a bend in it, and get the ID of the collector side expanded a bit. http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/2011-03-24_19-03-12_936.jpg

  7. Greetings from N. GA. I have my carbs put back together after an extensive cleaning and part replacement. It went well for the most part. No left over parts and what not. I have run into a small snag now. They are completely assembled. The choke linkage doesn't seem to be synced with both sides. If I turn the choke like the cable would, the left (cable attachment side) side will actuate the left side chokes first. Then the right side follows. Its about an eight inch off. The only way I see to adjust this would be to bend the choke linkage rod. Which I suppose would be no problem. However, I would like to confirm or deny if I should first. Is it normal for it to activate side before the other? If someone would please take a peek at theirs, I would be most grateful. BTW, sorry to be so long winded with just a small question. Michael

  11. just an observation. Yesterday I took my sons '05' Black Cherry 1800 to get a rear tire installed. The first thing I noticed was the size of the mirrors, I LIKE them He has foot boards on his bike and that brings up the second point. You have to raise the foot board to get to the kickstand and then put it back down. On the other side is the brake paddle and EVER YTIME I raised my foot from a standstill to put it on the foot board I hit the brake. Then I had to bend my knee more than I'm used to just to place it on the board. Very uncomfortable ! The third item is a second positive ! I absolutely love the fuel injection response when I twist the throttle  Didn't like the seat at all
  12. Hello to all my wonderful friends. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers. Home from hospital and trying to adjust to all this metal on my leg!! I will wear it till the bone heals, which could be up to six months I wore the other one for eight months!! I have four metal rings around my lower right leg and attached to those are 12 wires going into the bone, and two bigger bolts going in to hold the bone out and in place in my shin. Biggest risk is infection, and I have to keep them clean and not allow the skin to attach to the wires etc. OUCH !! Doctor's think that because my knee doesn't bend anymore the leg chose the next weakest area to try and bend.....which was at the bone graft site. Once the leg heals I think I may have to wear some sort of brace on the lower leg to prevent it wanting to bend -- but that's okay, and better than not walking at all. So, will take some time to sit here at the 'puter for long, but the good thing is: I'M BACK
  13. Here are some of the Pics we took at Big Bend. It was great to meet old friends and make new ones.
  14. I realized today that I didn't want to ride to Big Bend on the cheapy emergency tire I got on my last trip. Doh! I ordered a tire that should arrive Thursday. What are my mounting options? I want to do the Texas Honor Ride this Saturday. Are there any weeknight options that can get it done between now and this next Thursday, when we leave for Tom's and Big Bend? Maybe I should buy the Harbor Freight setup and do it myself? Can I take it to an auto tire shop and have them do it? Or do I miss the THR so I can have a motorcycle place do it Saturday? Dave
  15. we need to come up with something better and cheaper , i am thinking of something like the 2nd gens . i have a JD-2 bender and have made headers for cars before . if somebody can come up with a good and eazy design i will try to make it . if we make the pipe coming out the back longer and bend it dif. we could use slip ons . anybody know the ID and OD of the intake and the out take of the pipes ? Squid , you have had both bikes what do you think ? Thom
  16. Has anyone noticed that the bars on the 2nd ger venture are not very strong? They seem they will not protect the front area of the bike.\, only bend in on a very low speed drop. (like falling over)
  17. I know a lot has been posted about the Stebel Nautilus Air Horn. I took a few pictures of my installation on my RSTD and wanted to share them. Stebelhorn1.jpg shows how I mounted the relay under the right side cover next to the coolant overflow tank. Stebelhorn2.jpg shows the wiring according to the wiring diagram included with the horn package. Stebelhorn3.jpg shows the brackets I made from aluminum bar stock. Aluminum is easy to drill and bend. Not shown in the picture is the slight bend I made in each bracket to get the horn to sit back closer to the frame. I used a large adjustable wrench to hold the brackets while I hand-bent them. Bend away from you on the end that bolts to the original horn bracket, bend towards you on the other end. The brackets are hidden behind the horn so they don't have to look pretty. Stebelhorn4.jpg shows the finished project.
  18. Hi, I was worried about the excessive lean when my red bike is on the side stand. I read all the old posts about 1st gen side stand problems. Interesting and informative thought they were, I don't see the answer I need. Looks to me like my s.s. is bent, I will try to describe it cause its all rainy out and I am feeling too lazy to get out the camera and usb cables etc. Please bear with me. The gap, formed by the two flanges at the top of the side stand, where it hinges on the frame flange, seem to be spread apart. I measure 9.5 mm at the bottom of the channel but 11.5 mm at the opening. It looks to me, like the two flanges have been bent apart, not that they have worn down. The P.O. didn't have the bolt done up very tight as it took almost no effort to undo it. The s.s. slopped up and down quite a lot before I took it apart. The pivot bolt also appears to be bent. It looks to me like the bend is right at the thin section between the shoulder and the top of the threaded section. Its slight, so to be sure my old eyes weren't playing tricks, I put the end of the threaded section in my drill chuck and spun it. There is definitely a bend there as the head wobbles about 2.5 mm off centre I'd estimate. The arm of the stand has a bend in it too but I think that is actually cast into it. I have confirmed it looks similar to the one on my other bike. So what to do, what to do? I am tempted to put the pivot end of the stand in the vise and squeeze it till the flange gap closes to a uniform 9.5 mm. Then re install, with some grease, and reef the bolt down tight and lock it up with the lock nut. I am aware that this is a cast part and cast iron is brittle and not known for being forgiving in this way. I am afraid I might snap a flange off. Even if it appears successful and I make it through to the reassembly stage, I am afraid that I will have introduced some fatigue in the metal which will come back to bite me later on, likely when parked next to a Rolls Royce or a Mazeratti. Any opinions on this? Anyone got a known good s.s. & bolt for sale? Other suggestions? Thanks, Brian H.
  19. I need to replace my mufflers and I am considering putting on a set of aftermarkets that a friend is giving me. I was told at one time someone posted specs of a pipe to make for between the collector and an aftermarket muffler. Specs would consist of pipe size (diameter), length, location of bend, and degree of bend. Does anyone have these specs or can they direct me where to find them at? Also, are there any ideas of how to cover this pipe to make it look nice such as chroming it, heat paint, powder coat, etc.? And, is there by chance any way to get this pipe already fabricated and chromed? Thanks for your help.

  22. I've had this shield on my bike for about a year and a half... it has VERY few miles on it, mostly just lightly covered in the garage but after I uncovered it this spring, I see stress cracks all across the viewing area. http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/pp-windshield.jpg Anybody else have this problem? This is a Lexan piece that ships FLAT and you BEND it into shape... it's much wider and taller I REALLY like it... but oh, those lines...!!! The manufacturer thinks it may just a bad "batch" that the piece was made from...
