OK all, I have the beast on the road (without plastic - see pic). I love the de-linked brakes, but, I will probably replace the long rubber hose (master-to-coupler) with a braided line to firm the front brakes up a little. The 1300 engine with Vmax cams and springs is a real hoot. The power is impressive! I need to do some fine-tuning on the carbs. They are from my 1200 and all I have done is to add 1.6mm spacers on the needles. It starts easy and runs good. The idle seems to wander a bit and I have not checked the mpg. Next - PAINT

My Beast is painted and re-assembled . . . .Finally! Paint Color = Machine Gray with clear coat Gloss Black Painted = windshield trim, mirrors, radiator trim "Tire Shine" on dash panels and other black plastic The saddlebags and top box are still in primer. I hope to get them painted soon. I think I will go for a lunch ride . . .

It's time for an update on my Beast: Bodywork progress is slow. Between the 100 degree daytime temperatures :scorched:and the lack of success getting factory pin-striping off, not much forward movement has occurred in the past couple of weeks. Anyone have a sure-fire way to get these stinking decals/pinstripes off , please let me know. I have peeled off the top layer using a pro heat gun. The problem is the adhesive left behind. It gums up sandpaper, gasoline will not budge the stuff, and a grinder takes off too much material. I decided to make changes that will make the bike look more post 2000 and not look like 1985. I am removing or modifying a lot stuff. At this time my color choice is gun-metal gray. I had already removed the front fender bumper and mud-flap. I like a "smoother" look and next removed rear fender mud flap. Then I bobbed the rear fender. The picture below shows how the rear of the bike is developing. You can also see how I am painting the aluminum seals around the saddlebags. I have also removed the bumper and reflector off of the top box and filled 17 holes with fiberglass! Thanks for looking in on my Beast. More to come . . .

Warmed up today and for the last several days the weather has been in the high 30's and low 40's...Uncovered the beast and deceided to start her up and let it run for a while...streets are dry ,but my driveway is all ice....nope. didn't want to chance it ....had the tender on it all winter and she fired up on the 3rd try...boy did it feel good to hear her come back to life....One thing I noticed is that at an idle with the signals on , my voltmeter was reading higher than it normally did (before I only had one green light on and at idle it would flicker with the signal on)....my battery is the original 05 that came with the bike...gonna put a new one on the parts list and install it before the begining of the riding season....best to be safe than sorry....I have to go over everything before the season begins and plan to swap out all the fluids including the brake and radiator fluids...I will put on new brakes whether they need to be changed or not (yes I'm anal about that) ...each spring I also replace the tires...front and back, but this year I'm going to leave the front on and ride on the rear for a couple thousand more miles...plenty of tread, just flattening out...(must be my fat arse doing that)...I run the 404's whitewalls and have had pretty good luck with them...wanted to change to the elite seres, but really like the white wall look....well,I am really hoping that its an early spring . Like the rest of you northerners , I'm going a little batty this winter...winters never bothered me before...must be an age thing....Thank God for you guys and gals to keep me sane....

Hello motorcycle brothers and sisters. Iam new to this forum so please be gentle. I own a 1998 royal star tour deluxe with 12,500 miles that i bought used last year. It has a shudder while shifting through the gears on hard acceleration and in od on moderate to heavy acceleration from 50 mph. The clutch is not slipping has plenty of power but shudder's,you can feel it in the seat and handle bars. Did not know if this is nature of the beast for that year or if i am having issues. It has done this from day one. Any help on this would fantastic or if anyone else has had this problem.

End of June last year I got a torn retina. Off the bike for 2 months. This spring - guess what - same thing in the other eye. This is not fun. Missing some nice riding days again. Well. The eye dr isn't saying "no," although he does not like bikes (shows you how much he knows). Installed the battery today. Changed the oil and filter. Fired up the beast. How she purred. I could just tell she missed being out of the garage. Tomorrow she gets her bath and then.... Man. I am so ready to hit the road! I think tomorrow is the day.

Started my day off real good, got all leathered out, gonna ride into Town to give Gunboat a hand and the Green Beast turned over 2 times and that was it..so off with the seat, put the tester on the battery and it showed 12.2V but that was not enough to crank her, put it the charger and it would never reach a full charge, so it was off on a hunt to buy a new one, all I could find was one that you have to add the acid and charge your self, this says that there are plates in it that absorb 100% of the acid so that it will be spill proof, any one heard of that? any way, gonna wait till tomorrow to put it back in the beast and see how it does..

I had to do some last minute shopping for a friend who owns a HD Ultra. I rode to a local leather shop but all I was able to find within my budget (hey, I like the guy, but we aint sleeping together) was a Guardian bell. I had no other choice but to brave it and walk right into the belly of the beast....yes, I rode to our local Harley boutique, parked my Gleaming RSV amongst the Harleys and walked in with my head held up high. I soon realized that Almost nothing was within my budget here either (see above referenced excuse). I ended up getting him a gift certificate and walked out. There was a small crowd around my Gleaming RSV. I nodded to a few who only just stared back. I smiled, sat on the bike and fired it up...letting those 98 ponies pulsate through those (gasp!) Road King Mufflers!!!!....I kicked it into gear with my Harley boots and in the wink of an eye I shot out of there to the amazement of several onlookers. I thought I heard someone say..was it a bird..was it a plane....well, you know the rest.....:rotfl::rotfl:

Since we have such nice cold weather here in the south, figured might as well take the beast apart and repaint it. Wanting to go back with white paint to make it for noticeable on the road and since I live on a gravel road maybe it will not look so dirty too. Any how which is the best white paint for the beast as for good contact and that will last many years down the road? Has anybody added any type of metal flake to white paint before? If all else fails I could just use can spray paint and use some of my daughters glitter. buddy Buddy

You remember I got a "New" 1st Gen not long ago and been trying to find time to get carbs off and clean them to get it running. Bike shows 22k and owner swore that was right. Lot of goodies on it and needs cleaned badly. i finally got a little time to pull carbs today. He claimed it had never sat outside was in heated garage all its life. 25 yrs!! when I pulled carbs every thing I got to was stuck. Crud on carbs and bottom of air box was hard to believe. Bike does look good but makes me wonder where all that came from. And plugs are gone so someone has been in carbs. They are so dirty I'm thinking of swapping with "Blue Beast" I don't know of any place that soaks the things any more. Something wrong with that being that dirty. Might be 122k. I hope not and it sounds too good what few seconds I could get it to run priming it. I'll keep everyone posted. Carbs off the "Blue Beast"??? Hate to take that engine apart. Parts bike runs too good to take things from. i need another 1st Gen. Never have too many. Didn't mean to write book just thinking out loud and know there are a few wondering about the scoot.
