I have a motorcycle friend who just made a custom tool so that I can grease my speedometer bearing. He has a milling machine and lathe. He will be making 20 of these for the ordes I've received so far. Were were talking and I asked him if he would be interesed in ideas that members might have a need for tools, brackets, or other creative ideas. He is willing to intertain these ideas with possible solutions. He can make all sorts of things made out of various material and also anodize them if needed. One of his local customers is the Boeing Company so his machines has a lot of capabilities. His cost bases are very reasonable. Let me know if anyone has an idea and we can present them to the group to see if there might enough interest to move forward. He has a couple older Goldwings he is restoring and it really fun and interesting sharing stories of ideas. He is working on another idea of mine and as soon as I get a working prototype I'll share it with the group.

I noticed when I was shopping for my RSV that several I saw on the internet had rusted antenna bases, so this must be fairly common. Here is a pic of one of mine and both are pretty rusty. I like the look of the standard antennas so I really don't want to switch to the Firefly's. Has anybody here had any luck replacing or fixing these things? http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyMTYtMjAxMTAyMTYtMTMxOC5qcGc.jpg

I would like to improve my AM reception if possible. There are places where I cannot get the AM stations that I can in my trucks. Improving FM reception is a welcome addition although I can get all the stations that my trucks can. The Marshall mod confuses me a bit as i don't get all the lingo and the bases and stuff... (Just what the hell is a PL259?? He references it but makes no mention of it in the parts list...) Anyway...I don't need a folding bases. I have a metal grommet in my cover that the antenna slips through. I was very proud of that mod and don't want it to be wasted by going with a fold down bases. My base doesn't fold down now anyway due to "oldness". So...what IS the best antenna to use and what base would I use? And is there anything else I can do to improve my AM reception. Stupid questions but...can I run TWO antennas for improved reception to the radio? I do not use the CB antenna and have actually taken it and the entire holder off. (We don't use CB's here or rather, when I tried nobody answered me.) Is it possible to split the AM & FM signals to different antennas without having some sort of Radio Engineering degree and a thousand bucks. Or even run two AM/FM antennas or is two not better in this situation?
