  1. I would like to ask for an honest opinion on the first generation motorcycle value. I understand value depends on location, time of year, condition, sellers hardship or lack of interest, and honestly what a buyer is willing to pay. Some may even claim that their rides are priceless. Would anyone be willing to share what they feel is a fair price for the average first gen xvz or what they feel their bike is roughly worth and maybe a reason as to why they feel that way? I have tried to use the search engine to research this info but have been unsuccessful. I know there is no right or wrong answers but I am sure even though I might be asking a possibly bias forum that with enough replies there should be an average value. If anyone has an appraised value please state it as so as I have noticed sometimes appraised, insured value, and real market values differ. I am not trying to cause any problems but am trying to decide how much an average bike like this is roughly worth, insured value, and where my cutoff will be with my project. I will most likely calculate what the average value is and what I feel my upgrades and customizing are worth to me so I will have a rough total at which I will be comfortable with. So if you feel like sharing please do but no buying or selling posts as I want to adhere to forum rules. As always any comments or recommendations are appreciated and considered. Thank you
  2. Looking for suggestions on "must see/do" things for northern Texas for last week of February-first week of March. On average, what kind of weather should we expect??
  3. Ever since I purchased my 2006 Midnight this summer, I had burned Premium fuel as recommended by the previous owner and my fellow RSV riders here. The bike is a Yank bike, it's ODO is in miles but the pumps here are in Litres so on the road fuel mileage conversions suck.. lol.. However, 'on average', when I pull up to the pumps, I put 1 litre of fuel per 10 miles on the ODO.. in other words, if the ODO shows 170 miles, I'm putting in close to 17 litres of fuel into the bike. When you do the math and all, I'm getting roughly 44 mpg (Imp or US?).. And this fluctuates a bit depending if I'm doing a lot of slow speed 5th gear riding or high revs curve blasting.. Yesterday I thought to myself.. "Self, why spend more money on Premium when Reg is cheaper.. there can't be THAT much of a difference in mpg or performance, can there?" So I filled it up with Reg gas and went on a loooong run last night.. Yesterday, Reg was $1.33 / Litre and Premium $1.39 / Litre.. (and I never want to hear another yank whining about high fuel prices, come up here to do that.. over $5 a gallon here, and worse in Europe) Omg.. what a difference.. I'd never get anywhere on regular gas!! On average there was a 40 MILE difference to the range of that tank. When I went to fuel up, the bike took 17 litres but I only managed to get about 131 miles distance.. Now THAT is scary.. this was the average on two fills and two runs. On Premium fuel, I would average 40 mpg / 48 mpg (US/CDN) On Regular Fuel I would average 30 mpg / 37 mpg (US/CDN) Needless to say I can go further and spend less money to get there by running premium If my milage appears lower than norm, I'm running K&N and HD slash cut exhaust. Your milage may well differ ; )
  4. Hey everybody. I'm just curious if I'm getting good gas mileage on my 83. I'm averaging about 150 miles on a full tank of gas. Is that about average? Or can I do better?
  5. I've always had a lot of admiration for airline pilots and their abilities. Yes, I know, you occasionally hear some horror story about a wacko doing something insane or stupid, but those events are rare. Here is a link to a story about the average airline pilot's training and a video shot at a German airport during a day with severe cross winds. Absolutely amazing!! http://travel.sympatico.ca/TravelNews/Articles/how_safe_is_a_plane Andy
  6. How many hrs do you guys spend rideing per week on average. For me I ride about 12 hrs.
  7. Investment Advice If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today! If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have $33.00 today. If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have $0.00 today. But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund, you would have received $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg. And as a bonus... A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that on average Americans drink 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that the average American gets about 41 miles to the gallon!
  8. before you start cutting back on your fun riding? We are now at about $3.55 a gallon around here and it takes me about $15 bucks or so to fill up when the bike has about a gallon left. At my last fillup, my average was right at 45mpg and I figure that works out to about eight cents a mile. That would still be about $40 for a 500 mile weekend. RandyA

    41 mpg?

Stand proud you noble swingers of clubs and losers of balls.... A recent study found the average golfer walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon. Kind of makes you proud. Almost feel like a “hybrid.”
  10. I am leaving Charlotte, NC and riding 4600 miles out to AZ on I20 & I10 and back via Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Four Corners, Amarillo, Texarkana, Nashville and home on I40. Can I average 55 mph? There are two of us, both on Ventures. I would like to make it in 10 or 11 days.
  11. Ok...I must be bored...writing quotes about dogs: The reason a dog has so many friends is that He wags his tail instead of his tongue. -Anonymous There is no psychiatrist in the world Like a puppy licking your face. -Ben Williams A dog is the only thing on earth That loves you more than he loves himself. -Josh Billings The average dog is a nicer person Than the average person. -Andy Rooney Anybody who doesn't know what soap tastes like Never washed a dog. - Franklin P. Jones If your dog is fat, You aren't getting enough exercise -Unknown My dog is worried about the economy Because Alpo is up to $3.00 a can. that's almost $21.00 in dog money. -Joe Weinstein If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, He will not bite you; That is the principal difference between a dog and a man. -Mark Twain Dogs are not our whole life, But they make our lives whole. -Roger Caras If you think dogs can't count, Try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket And then give him only two of them. -Phil Pastoret
  12. I have a 08 RSTD and am only getting around 35 miles to the gallon now I believe I was getting alot better last year? Wondering what is the average folks are getting and what do you suggest? Before you say it already running SEAFOAM! thanks
  13. I'm close to making a deal on a slightly used '09 Tahoe LTZ with the 6.2L (395 HP) engine and 6 speed transmission. I've currently got an '03 Tahoe with the 5.3 and I am used to poor mileage. Will the 6.2 mileage be much less? When I test drove it I checked the trip meter for average MPG and it was a bit higher than the average on my '03. The LTZ is a nice package with lots of buttons. Are there any other issues I should be concerned about. Thanks, Dennis
  14. Seems there are lots of threads about fuel consumption. I thought it might be good for new(er) folks (like me) to have one definitive thread about what can be expected for MIXED mileage. Now obviously everyone should know that "Your Mileage May Vary" (YMMV) but if we got a consensus here it'd be cool. So I set up this poll for users to vote ONCE for the mileage number that is closest to their AVERAGE MIXED MPG. Not your best, not the least, no varying conditions like mountains, towing, two-up, fuel type used etc. Just normal average mileage say over the last 5 tanks. This would make a great sticky, too. *hint hint*
  15. I used the search option and can't seen to find a poll on how many have the "whine" vs how many do not. I found a poll ref: to how many have fixed the problem, but no one that would give an average on how many bike have the problem. If anyone knows of a poll could you post a link.

  18. How often do you need to put air in your shocks? Just wondering the average miles or time. Rod
  19. Went for a nice ride today. Daughter rode with me, wife on her bike and the neighbors joined us. Had to get on the brakes hard once and noticed the pedal pulsing under my foot so I tried to stay off the rear brake. Got home and removed the rear caliper. The inside pad was down to the metal. 23,000 on these original pads. Is that good, bad, average? So of course this has to occur after all dealers are closed, on a holiday weekend. can't do anything until Tuesday. I hope it rains for the next few days.
  20. It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach. One human hair can support 3 kg (6 lb). The average man's penis is three times the length of his thumb. Human thighbones are stronger than concrete. A woman's heart beats faster than a man's. There are about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet. Women blink twice as often as men. The average person's skin weighs twice as much as the brain. Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still. If saliva cannot dissolve something, you cannot taste it. Women reading this will be finished now. Men who read this are probably still busy ch ecking their thumbs.
  21. Kinda interesting. I've been tracking all 1stGen sales on Ebay for the last 3 years... yeah I know I've got a lot of time on my hands.... Sales of 1st gen's for the month of Novenber 2006 was 15 bikes and the adverage $ was $1822.00 per bike. For Nov 2007, 14 bikes sold and the average selling price was$1519.00. This year only 4 bikes ended up going to new owners, and the average was $1706.00. What does this mean?? I don't know, but I've noticed several bikes never making reserve. The ones that sold were listed with a lower first bid, and no reserve. When they did sell they did fairly average compared to 2006 and 2007.

More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME . Ninety percent of all doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which Were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard. ' Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canadapassed a law that prohibited poor people from Entering into their country for any reason. Five leading causes of death were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke The American flag had 45 stars. The population of Las Vegas , Nevada, was only 30!!!! Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea Hadn't been invented yet. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, 'Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health' ( Shocking? DUH! ) Eighteen percent of households had at least One full-time servant or domestic help. There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE ! U.S.A. ! 25. Just looked at the latest statistics for the Canadian housing market showing average house prices across Canada in order of highest to lowest. Good thing I was sitting down. Vancouver (where I live) is currently the highest at $560,000. That's up from 2004 at $373,000 and they expect it to hit $600,000 in 2008. Western Canada in general is the highest with the East Coast areas being the lowest at around $125,000. These are prices for major Canadian cities. How does that stack up against you folks south of the border.... what are your prices like and have they been increasing over the past 3 or 4 years or declining?
