Thought I would post some of the activities going on around Athens on the weekend of Oct 18th. The Zip Line location does give a discount for groups. If there are enough interested I will contact them for the group rates. The Edom Festival of Arts will be something I think the ladies will really enjoy. For those who enjoy Cutting Horses there is a great show at the Fair Grounds. There is a mystery dinner theater performance that is always entertaining. If anyone needs additional information on any of these events let me know. The attachment is a pdf document and if you need a pdf reader to view it you can download one free from the web. Mavrick

First off, we have moved home base to Athens, Texas. The Lake O' the Pines was nice to ride but amenities were missing. No places at ALL to eat and pretty low rooms. I think Masterguns and I both looked for Roger the Roach. We actually cancelled our rooms and went to Athens after talking to Mavrick over supper. Athens is closer to the railway. Also, the ride to the depot will include one of Ride Texas' 10 best voted roads. Not a tail of the dragon, but really nice. Sorry for the delay on this. We could not get a camping spot with a close motel. In Athens there is the State Freshwater Fishing Conservation. It has huge aquariums and displays ( can also fish and release with supplied equipment). Also a great outdoor Arboretium nearby. Lots to do and see. A bit far from Caddo Lake and the paddleboat. We could go up on Friday if a group wishes. Saturday will be the ride and the train ride. I will have the group details on this in a day or so. The ride starts in Palestine on the 18th. There is a box lunch available (checking the price). The individual price is $38.00 per person without the lunch. I am working with them for a group rate. I will post more about the trip as we see the reservations chime in. Please reply to the below listed link in the regional rally section so we can get a head count. See here for the reservation and lodging details http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27185 THanks to all. JB
