For those of you at asheville that knew we had to leave early because our daughter was in the hospital heres an update. For those that didn't know my daughter had corpral tunnel surgery the week before and began having severe stomach pains, went to ER several times and couldn't find anything wrong, thought it was gas from the iv pain med she was on. Finally while we were at asheville they admited her to the hospital. So they thought it may be her gall bladder but the test showed ok. Yesterday they did an upper and lower gi and said if it was ok they were still going to remove the gall bladder. It checked ok and they got a gall blader expert in and he wanted another test which showed the gall baldder was functioning ok. So they finnnaly decided it was bacteria in the colon and since she was cleaned out from the gi sent her home with new antibiotics last night and so far no more attacks. So thanks for the concerns and prayers, hopefully thats all it was.

I just want to say a big thanks to Mark, Warrior/Honeybee, for all the effort and enthuasiam that he put into our Asheville Rally this year. He did a great job and made a great get together even better. I also want to thank Ron, Sylwoody, and his wife Katrina for also bringing a fantastic setup for us to gather and be able to get out of the rain and hangout. And, again this year, they brought some incrediblely good wine that Ron's father makes. They stayed over with us Sunday night and we had a great ride over the Blue Ridge Parkway Sunday to Cherokee and had a great meal at Grannie's Restaurant. I just can not believe the weekend is over with. RandyA

For those coming to the Asheville Rally, I always like to do an "In Case of Emergency" list. Thankfully, we have not had to use the info for a crash situation, but it was used for coordinating of meet-ups. I would like to use this format so I can just do a cut & paste: It also helps if you keep it a simple font and no color. Your name(s), phone numbers, where staying, estimated arrival, emergency contact number with name or relationship. Randy Atkins 423-726-0431 , KOA, Thur afternoon, 423-335-1484, son Please forward it to my home email; rsatkins@comcast.net or PM me here. I will have copies for everyone who is on the list upon arrival and will be glad to e-mail you a copy before you leave if I have the info by Wednesday or I will see if Warrior can make copies for those that show up early. Thanks, RandyA

I am leaving the Peoria, Illinois area on Tuesday August 7th headed to Asheville, NC I am going to stop in Indianapolis and drop off Dano's trailer to him then head southeast on the 2 lane roads and wiggle my way through Kentucky's hill country down through Tennessee arriving sometime Wednesday afternoon. If anyone is headed that way and wants to ride let me know. Rick

Well, since this is the off year for Vogal here in the south east, I think we need to see what interest we may have in having another Asheville Rally. What I have done in the past is throw out the opportunity for everyone to let me know what interest there is and what dates people would like to suggest. Once we start getting this information, we can start putting something together. For those of you that have never been to the Asheville get together, it is really more like an extended meet and eat. It is very laid back and we have a great time. It is not real organized and so far that has worked real good. In the past we have stayed at the Asheville East KOA campground and have always been able to have the main congregation at the lilly pond. This is a great place in the campground as is is a bit off to itself and is also within walking distance to the cabins. There is not a registration fee and your costs are what you spend just having fun. We have always been able to double up on the campsites and this helps. We have in the past had about six or so campsites together and with these sites being large, we just kind of fill it up. For those that do not want to camp, there are nice cabins and a lot of motels close by. And, if you want any door prises, you will have to bring your own. As far as rides and meals, the opportunities in this area are abundant. You could spend a month in this area and still find great roads to ride and places to eat. We put together rides by asking "Who wants to ride where?" and go from there. Some may want to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Cherokee, NC, which is the most majestic part of the parkway for running the crest of the mountains and is also the highest elevation on the parkway. Some may want to go to Grandfather Mountain or Chimney Rock. Some may want to go to the Biltmore house. Google these places if you don't know about them. As far as food, in the past we have gathered most at a particular BBQ restaurant on one evening and usually breakfast is fixed at the campground. We will make a run to the store for food and folks will chip in a couple of bucks. We usually have pancakes and bacon and sausage. To my knowledge, no one has ever left hungry. As far as dates, the times could probably be from June to September. We will just have to see how it would work best for the most people. Just respond with your thoughts and suggestions and we will see what can be put together. RandyA

Had a beautiful 80 degree, blue sky ride thru the TN/NC mountains today. Linda and I packed a picnic lunch and looped thru the KOA in east Asheville. At this time, for the week of June 10-12, there are 14 cabins available and our campsites at the lilly pond are still available. As I have said, I want to see if there is much interest in getting together for a long weekend meet and eat. At this time I am planning on taking that week as vacation and starting at Freebird's MD and seeing where it goes from there. So, now it is time to see what we can put together. RandyA

With Annie and Al being here Friday afternoon and night, maybe we can grill some burgers and visit. So, if anyone would like to stop by, you are welcome. And, I will have an extra bedroom that can be available also if anyone else wants to stop by on the way to Asheville. This is kind of short notice, so we will just see what we can throw together. Due to very little interest and responses on getting together this year at Asheville for a mini rally or extended meet and eat, I am going to advise the KOA campground that we are not going to have a get together this year. Maybe next year we can see about putting something together and we can see what interest there is then. In my "Let's talk about Asheville" thread, there were over 70 hits and not one single comment. Since this is a Vogal year, I threw it out about having a long weekend meet and eat for the weekend of June 10-12th as we have done in the past and meeting at the Asheville KOA campground. It appears that we are getting very little interest this year, which may be the combination of Vogal, the economy and the date that was set, which is the weekend after Freebird's MD, or whatever. Also Warrior sent me a PM about a M&E in Asheville on the 18th, but I have not seen where he has posted anything. Sooooo, if June 10-12th is not a good time for many that are interested in coming, maybe we could target another date, maybe in July, as I am game for that. Or if there is just not enough interest this year, maybe we can try to put together a bigger rally next year. But, if we are going to cancel this year, I will need to notify the KOA campground so they will not hold those spaces for us. I really did want to try June this year as this is really late spring up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the colors are wonderful and the camping would normally be just a little cooler than July or August. So, please give me some feedback so I can put some things together, one way or the other. Thanks, RandyA

I am going to start here and then go to the rally section. During our ride Tuesday, Lady Linda and I started talking about a little vacation get together this summer. We have thrown out a couple of suggestions about Asheville and have gotten some response. At this moment, I am thinking about taking the week of June 4th thru 12th and taking the little camper and spending the first part of that week maybe camping at several different campsites. Then about Wednesday or Thursday, pulling into Asheville. Rather than trying to put together any kind of rally, since this is the year for Vogal, I am just thinking that I may just say we are planning on being there for some camping and riding and if anyone wants to join us, come on down. This is really not much different than usual, as Asheville has always been a pretty low key event, but I would like to see if there is any interest. The main thing is, if we load up the little camper, we will have to pack as light for camping as possible. If we are going to spend the last part of the week at Asheville, and we have some interest in others joining us, then I will set the camper and make a trip across the mountain back to Johnson City to bring all the extra stuff, like the big canopy, bunches of chairs and all that other stuff that we can't seem to do without. Anyway, got to go for now and we will see what others are interersted in. Thanks, RandyA

For those of you that have been to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, you may know that they have their own winery and do tours of the winery and give taste tests. Well, to maybe add to the culture of the early Asheville folks and especially since we had twelve bottles of homemade wine, we had a wine and cheese tasting session. What made this even better was Woody (SylWoody)and his wife Katrina brought some really good tasting wine, and I mean really good tasting. It really started out nicely in being able to taste the richness of the flavors and compare one particular wine against another. But unfortunately, after a few samples, I believe we may have lost some of the tasting abilities as I think some of our taste buds begin to loose their effectiveness. It was also a bit of a problem as some seemed to not have any interest at all in tasting any of the cheese. So, any way, I thought I would post some pictures in this endeavor to add some class to this group, but I am not sure how effective this was. RandyA

I'm talking about pulling a trailer in the rain. My first gen gets very slippery riding two up in the rain. Now add a trailer behind that plus your scoot is tracking in the grease spot. My first choice is to pull off and wait. I find just traveling on wet pavement I run much slower then say others in the group. I'm not going to compromise safety above common sense and good judgement. Were leaving for Bristol Virginia Tomorrow then on to Asheville Friday. Coming back home on Sunday and guess what. It's calling for rain tomorrow and tomorrow night with heavy rain on Sunday.I told the wife we were taking the pickup and she agreed. I think my retirement scoot may be a trike.

My tach is gone crazy runs like it's missing, removed TCI cleaned connections moving to top of air box. If I swap plug wire and connections to the left side coils will this let me know if the #2 coil is bad. Any one coming to Asheville have a good 83 TCI I could use to test. How do you get the cover off the TCI to get to the diodes to look for bad ones.

Given there is not going to be a Vogal rally for the southeast this year, I was expecting a bit more response to us having an Asheville Rally. So far, I am getting very little response on my request to do an ICE list. For those of us that have been to either of the previous Asheville get-togethers, you know it is a laid back gathering and we have a lot of fun. For those that have not been to this rally, or in this area, this is truly a motorcyclist's paradise. You can not get much better riding than this, in just about anywhere. Usually, the biggest problem is trying to decide which direction you want to go. And, for those staying at the KOA site, it is a perfect place for us to get together. I know the date is a little later in the year and many have kids in school by now, but I am hoping before this gets going that we have a bunch show up. If there are any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to ask on here, or send me a PM and I will try to help. I plan on being there in the afternoon on Wednesday the 11th and will be leaving out Sunday. I will be in campsite #21 by the lilly pond. RandyA

I am again wanting to do an attendance list of emergency numbers for folks coming to Asheville this year. Thankfully, we did not have to use the info for a crash situation, but it was used a couple of times to retrieve a bike that had a mechanical problem, and some coordinating of meet-ups. I would like to use this format so I can just do a cut & paste: It also helps if you keep it a simple font and no color. Your name(s), phone numbers, where staying, estimated arrival, emergency contact number with name or relationship. I will have copies for everyone upon arrival and will be glad to e-mail you a copy before you leave of the info I have by Tuesday night. Thanks, RandyA

I have posted an update in the Rally section on the Asheville Rally. I hope we can get a bunch there this year as this really is a fun rally and great place to have it. RandyA http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=485577#post485577

I posted earlier about my lifestyle change and was asked for a picture, so I will post a couple. I really do appreciate all the encouragement I am getting from you guys and I still have a ways to go. I will also see if I can find one from earlier. The one from Asheville is me on the left with me keeping the picture balanced. I was actually not at my peak weight in that picture. RandyA

We are having a BMW rally out at the fairgrounds and they expect about 10,000 BMW's to be there. I rode to the fairgrounds this evening and it was like going back to the nest with a whole bunch of bees. They have huge tents set up for vendors(I guess) and for some of the campers, they have identical blue and white two man size tents set up in long rows, in perfect alignment and touching each other. I wish I had taken my camera with me, it just looked so different than what we had at Asheville. I hope they have a good safe time here and I am sure they will be bringing major bucks to this area. We are expecting thunderstorms to be moving through the area for the next several days. RandyA

Had a nice ride home across the mountains, took a little over an hour. Laura just yelled down at me to come help unload everything. What an absolutely super bunch of folks. This was another great get together in Asheville and it seemed everyone had a great time. We had great food, a little rain, great rides with LOTS of twisties, a little rain, great visiting around the campsite, a little rain and more good food and the loudest frogs in the lilly pond I have ever heard. I was not sure at first how many were going to be able to show up, but we had a bunch of people and bikes there. I will check back later and hope I can get the pictures out of the camera. Thanks everyone for helping Laura and me have such a great time!!! RandyA
