  1. Just looking for some options. I think I read on here somewhere that the stock handlebars from a RoadGlide will fit an RSV and provide better reach for stubby arms, can anybody confirm this? How about Road King bars? Both are 1" diameter.
  2. After reading all the pros/cons about lowering the RSV I bought a Barons rear lowering kit. The instructions aren't the greatest (no pics) so I have a couple of questions on the install. - relocating the brake caliper: is it necessary to remove the mufflers to take out the rear axle? - removing the connecting arms: with the rear wheel off the ground (unweighted), when I remove the bolts for the connecting arms what prevents the wheel from dropping further down or do I have to support the wheel?? Doug
  3. You gotta have long arms to reach all the way from Texas to Georgia, but you did it. Thanks for all your help. I was going to take it out on the road today, but got called into work before I could hitch it up.
  4. So...I've added the Baron risers....seemed to make the ache in my shoulder blades a little better. I find that there is less of an ache when I extend my arms almost fully (not quite locked), than when I ride with arms bent (45 degrees). I do have a backrest that is quite comfortable (thanks DiamondR)! Shirt sleeves are about 37'ish... I'm thinking about removing the risers, and changing out the handlebars. I hear folks speak highly of the Flanders.....Any other suggestions? How does one figure out how much rise and "pull back" is needed on the bars to be comfortable? So I thought I would ask the TALLER "experts"! What say ye?
  5. Ok, here is my first question. 1. Are the OEM airfilters able to be cleaned, or is it better to go ahead and just replace them? 2. As far as NGK-DPR7EIX-9 plugs are they really worth the extra? 3. Any one in eastern NC with a carbtune. I'll be looking to do this after the plugs and filters. The stealers want both my arms for what I've read is a 10-15 job. I've got 19000 miles in just under a year and with every service I'm getting more indepth and down and dirty with my 08rstd. (with the help of the manual on here)
  6. yesterday while out on a ride with my dad brother in law and a friend a young lady felt the need to pass the car in front of her without checking for on coming traffic. with less than 30 yards between us she hit me dead center of my front tire launching me over her nissan maxima. i was going roughly 50 mph her closer to 60. i cant be sure but i would bet she was on her cell phone. i was takeenn by helicopter to the medical university of south carolina where i've had surgery on both my arms to fix breaks fractures an dislocations. other than my arms, there is not a scratch on me. the Lord was riding 2 up with me yesterday. my dad suffered a broken ankle and the loss of his treasured harley. my mom who was riding with him walked away with just a sprained knee. my brother in law has a broken wrist and minor internal bleeding. its not known yet if his honda cbr is totaled tho it more than likely is. my friend went down but was able to ride his bike for a check_up. my 2004 midnight rsv is a total loss. when i asked what it looked like my father in law said it looked like somebody had died on it. the only parts that i could get off it were the trailer hitch and gps. thank you very much for all the thoughts and prayers and hopefully ya'll will accept me in a cage at the meet in eats until i can get two wheels under me. the doctors are saying 6 weeks minimum until i have the use of my arms. God Bless everyone an stay safe out there. Ben (Gamecock)
  7. Has anybody had any experience putting some brand of pull backs for the handlebars on a 2006 RSTD? I would like to bring my handlebars back just a tad to keep from having to stretch my arms out. Not bad, but a lil uncomfortable. Just was wanting some reccommadations from anybody who has done something similiar. Thanks, Jerry
  8. Well the Bike is running so good I decided to work on the old car today. Replacing the upper and lower control Arms on the 93 T-Bird. Frankly would much rather work on a motorcycle !! Much more enjoyable, to say the least
  9. I want to extend my handle bars out (cause my arms are short), but don't want to replace my handlebars. I looked through some of the threads for info but didn't find anything. Any help is appreciated. Thanx Glenn
  10. I went on a ride with a goup a couple of weeks ago and there was a couple that from a distance, apeared to have tattoo's on their arms, On closer inspection they had the same tattoo's. They were acutally nylon slip on's for their arms to protect from the sun. Said they picked them up in Fla. I cannot find them any where. I have very fair skin and burn when I'm in the sun. Especially when I ride. Has anyone else seen these or know where they can be found.
  11. I think everyone will get a kick out of this picture http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/rsx_fan2003/monkeyman.jpg I'm wondering how long he could ride like that before his arms felt like falling off.
  12. A Baby's Hug We were the only family with children in the restaurant. I sat Erik in a high chair and noticed everyone was quietly sitting and talking. Suddenly, Erik squealed with glee and said, "Hi." He pounded his fat baby hands on the high chair tray. His eyes were crinkled in laughter and his mouth was bared in a toothless grin, as he wriggled and giggled with merriment. I looked around and saw the source of his merriment. It was a man whose pants were baggy with a zipper at half-mast and his toes poked out of would-be shoes. His shirt was dirty and his hair was uncombed and unwashed. His whiskers were too short to be called a beard and his nose was so varicose it looked like a road map. We were too far from him to smell, but I was sure he smelled. His hands waved and flapped on loose wrists. "Hi there, baby. Hi there, big boy. I see ya, buster," the man said to Erik. My husband and I exchanged looks, "What do we do?" Erik continued to laugh and answer, "Hi" Everyone in the restaurant noticed and looked at us and then at the man. The old geezer was creating a nuisance with my beautiful baby. Our meal came and the man began shouting from across the room, "Do ya patty cake? Do you know peek-a-boo? Hey, look, he knows peek-a-boo." Nobody thought the old man was cute. He was obviously drunk. My husband and I were embarrassed. We ate in silence; all except for Erik, who was running through his repertoire for the admiring skid-row bum, who in turn, reciprocated with his cute comments. We finally got through the meal and headed for the door. My husband went to pay the check and told me to meet him in the parking lot The old man sat poised between me and the door. "Lord, just let me out of here before he speaks to me or Erik," I prayed. As I drew closer to the man, I turned my back trying to sidestep him and avoid any air he might be breathing. As I did, Erik leaned over my arm, reaching with both arms in a baby's' "pick-me-up" position. Before I could stop him, Erik had propelled himself from my arms to the man's. Suddenly a very old smelly man and a very young baby consummated their love and kinship. Erik in an act of total trust, love, and submission laid his tiny head upon the man's ragged shoulder. The man's eyes closed, and I saw tears hover beneath his lashes. His aged hands full of grime, pain, and hard labor, cradled my baby's bottom and stroked his back. No two beings have ever loved so deeply for so short a time. I stood awestruck. The old man rocked and cradled Erik in his arms and his eyes opened and set squarely on mine. He said in a firm commanding voice, "You take care of this baby." Somehow I managed, "I will," from a throat that contained a stone. He pried Erik from his chest, lovingly and longingly, as though he were in pain. I received my baby, and the man said, "God bless you, ma'am, you've given me my Christmas gift." I said nothing more than a muttered thanks. With Erik in my arms, I ran for the car. My husband was wondering why I was crying and holding Erik so tightly, and why I was saying, "My God, my God, forgive me." I had just witnessed Christ's love shown through the innocence of a tiny child who saw no sin, who made no judgment; a child who saw a soul, and a Mother who saw a suit of clothes. I was a Christian who was blind, holding a Child who was not. I felt it was God asking, "Are you willing to share your son for a moment?" when He shared His for all eternity.. The ragged old man, unwittingly, had reminded me, "To enter the Kingdom of God we must become as little children." Live Simply - Love Generously - Care Deeply - Speak Kindly - Leave the Rest to God Ride safe, Bobbie
  13. I just bought a lift (ATV and motorcycle lift) for raising my wife's 2005 1100 v-star up so I can do oil changes and other maintenance. Before I do the first lift, aside from ensuring it doesn't fall off, is there any other info I would need such as putting blocks on the lift arms so that the arms don't hit the engine? It looks like at least one arm would be under part of the engine which sticks out under the frame rails. Thanks
  14. Cpl. Arlie Jones, Cpl. Scott Gardner and the last to fall, Cpl. Abel Marquez, all from the Odessa Police Department. God hold you in his arms for eternity, you did a good job and you will all be missed. http://www.oaoa.com/news/marquez_7449___article.html/police_opd.html
  15. Hi: This is not an actual wheelchair, but a "transport chair" purchased from SEARS. Folds up better and smaller than a wheelchair, and is very light. Four 8" wheels. I made brackets with square tube and attached on each side under the antenna mounts. Drilled the holes one size larger and put in longer bolts with lock nuts. I then shaped "arms" to hold the chair on, from a chrome chair, the ones you see in community halls that are stackable. The diamenter was just right. These arms simply slide into the square tube and fast with a bolt held in with a cotter pin. Bungee cords hold the foot rests, which are detachable. Seemed the easiest solution. All in all it works well. I can take the whole unit, arms and chair, off in about 1 minute without having to take chair off the arms. Also attached a set of LEDs on the bottom of the chair and set them up to be running lights and brake lights, same as the light under the trunk. Just a little extra safety.
