I am currently using 10W40 syn amsoil in my RSTD and would like to know what oil can I use instead of the amsoil. Its getting higher in cost and harder to find it around. So what can I use in place of it and that it wont hurt what will be left in my bike after I switch? Please don't start an oil dispute just need some idea's. :rotf: Joe

Rick, thanks for the help you were able to give me over the phone, several times I may add. Followed your advice and the forks went together flawlessly. Ended up using Amsoil Shock Therapy syn 10w fork oil. Took just over 1 qt to fill both forks. Glad the Amsoil dealer (LetHimRide) had an open bottle left over. Thanks again......

Okay I just got my venture and it is an 83. I am going to change the oil and I understand that the tranny shares oil with the engine. After reading a few things on the net I have decided, even if momentarily, to use rotella 15-40. I have used this oil before in cars and liked it very well but I do realize this application is not a car, open for thoughts.... In all my autos I run amsoil and like it very well but amsoil here is starting to get hard to get ahold of... but I do not want to change a bike over to a synthetic due to not knowing what kind of oil was used before and if it might change things with internals. If someone can give you some insight on this I would most definitely be happy. I am going to go with the E3 plugs and will let forum know how that goes. Now what I need is some mirrors. My bike came with no mirrors and the dealer wants 105 apiece. I found a place on line that advertises that they are half of what a dealer charges for used ones but gee there price was 145 a piece for a used one... I have seen a set on ebay for 40 but they were ensribed with the last owners pilot and navigator name.... i missed the auction but I guess I could of gotten new mirror for it.. Also is Yamaha the place to get the raditor hoses? Mine setup for quite a while so I feel real confident they will be go at any given time or when I get the furthest from home...lol..

I've reading through the articles again about engine oils and seen a lot of people using the Shell Rotella oil.. I recently found some supply in the local area and yeah, what a much better price than AMSOIL by far! to say the least.. However, so many different types and variations up here.. Attached photo shows two jugs, my inclination is that the left bottle, blue is the one to get? The is another bottle, T SB on it.. (syn blend?) available.. With 33,500 miles on the bike last summer alone and doing oil changed every 3 to 5,000 miles, I'm looking to keep my bike in shape yet save a few coins.. AMSOIL wasn't the way to go.. ouch.. $20 a litre..

I've done some dumb things in my day, but today took ranks right up there in the top 5. Today I changed my oil and added motorkote too. That's about $60 worth of lubricant (Amsoil). I also had cut the rear baffles out of my road king's. I couldn't wait to hear that so I had to run it down the road. Like those alot better. I took another look at the oil level and realized I had overfilled it. To keep this short.....Oil takes longer to cool down than you think. When I pulled the plug out (not hot) and the oil (extremely hot) flowed down over my hand, it was so hot I couldn't get the dad blamed plug back in. Yep, that's right $60 worth of Amsoil & Motorkote right out on the floor. Live and learn, I guess.:mo money::mo money:

"small town"... has anyone used amsoil diesel??? in a pinch i just put in lucas 20-50 and i think it sucks, poor shifting and a little noisy.. also i do have cat pipes off a 2009 roadking any problems with the diesel oil there. any input would be appreciated. 2005 rsv baby

Last Friday I changed out my Amsoil synthetic 10w40 oil and put in Amsoil synthetic 20w50. Thought maybe it would quieten the engine and the clutch whine. Around here, that oil costs $19.95/litre and it takes almost 4 litres with a new filter so, all tolled with taxes it came to $101 and change. To my dismay, the engine actually seemed noisier and the whine louder. I also noticed the temps on the gauge getting up to between 220 & 230. Yesterday morning I decided to go get some Shell Rotella T (non synthetic). I got the 15w40. I'm happy to report that even though I virtually wasted $100 on the Amsoil, the engine is quieter, the clutch whine is quieter, and the temps are sticking close to 210-215 on the gauge after a couple days running around the city in 30 degree celcius weather.. I drained the Amsoil back into the containers and kept it for some other future use. Think I'll be sticking with the Rotella T.

I'm currently using Amsoil in my 09 RSV. I'm going to be changing the oil in a couple of weeks. Should I stick with Amsoil or move to another synthetic? Any harm in changing from Amsoil to another type of Synthetic (Mobil-1??).

Can you hear your driveshaft? No...not the fictional band that Charlie was in on the show 'Lost'. I changed the driveshaft gear lube on my 07 Venture last week, and put around 250 miles on this weekend. After about 100 miles or so, I began to notice a slight gear noise...sort of a low hum, that of course varied with the torque load on the wheel. I never had noticed this before, and its NOT the whine from the clutch/transmission. This noise is not really noticeable until speeds reach about 30-40 mph, radio off, and it was much hotter this weekend than it has been in a while. Temps were near 90 degrees. SO...I stopped and checked the level, and it was fine. I had replaced the gear lube with Amsoil, and wondered if maybe its not entirely compatible with the remaining YamaLube that may have still been in the housing, possibly thinning it out. Actually my question is, can anyone else hear the driveshaft on their bike? Its not terribly loud, in fact if the radio is on, I cant hear it at all...just wondering if I'm noticing it now, as opposed to it actually getting noisy...I just dont remember ever hearing it, but I do normally ride with the radio on. I did change it out AGAIN, put new Amsoil in, and the old Amsoil had darkened to match the previous oil's color. I'll get a chance to ride it later on next week. So...Driveshaft noise...normal or not?

Hello All, I have a 07 midnight venture and am ready for my 3rd service and I am considering going to Amsoil. People around home have been saying good things 'bout Amsoil and I am wondering what you all think of synthetic oils in your rides, especially Amsoil??? Another concern is Yamaha's warranty with using Amsoil. My dealer just told me that Yamaha is coming out with a total synthetic oil within the month or so. Any input would be appreciated, especially from you all that have been using the synthetics. Thanks, Sarge414 "Ride Always and Always Ride Safe!!!!"

OK all of you AMSOIL Distributors, Tell us all that you know about the differences between the new EA oil filters compared to the previous SMF filters. And does this change justify the change in price IYHO? And don't give us the AMSOIL literature sound bites, but what you have learned and feel is important. And while you are at it, what drain and filter change intervals are each of you using on your Ventures? Curious minds need to know, Rick
