Just got a USED set of BUBS. It appears that the slip-ons will not slide on far enough to accomodate the bolt lining up. I can see the muffler is hitting a stop that is welded. So Is there something I need to do differently? I think I have to cut the Very small amount off the mating end of the slip on. Any help would be appreciated.

I have searched through the forum and the instructions that came with the springs. I can not confirm the amount of oil to re-install in the forks. The only amount I see is in a thread about changing the oil but doesn't seem to be specific to Sonics. It seems to me that the 10 1/2 inches of PVC would displace more oil than the stock springs so less oil would/should be added to forks. In the middle of the job now so any help would be appreciated.

Curious what a fair rate is to take off the rear wheel on a HD Roadking and swap the pulley and rotor on to another wheel and reassemble. Essentially the same amount of work to replace a rear tire. I know shop rates vary, but a reasonable amount for the southern region?

Hey all Posting for a friend of mine who recently purchased an 83 Venture. He had it serviced carbs cleaned, fluids all changed, new rubber. His problem is that it is running really hot. Temp gauge will redline, then fans come on and cool it down but just a little bit. He said it's uncomfortable to ride with the amount of heat it's putting out. He spoke with the stealer and was told that "that's just how they run". Doesn't sound right to me. Any advice or thoughts as to what his issue might be? Thanks for your help! Joe

During the last week of December 2010, we admitted my wife to the hospital for severe abdominal pain, went well was discharged before New Years. Two weeks later she called the business office of the hospital to ask for hardship application to see if they would reduce the bill a bit. She was told by the person she talked to that insurance had not paid off yet and to wait so they would know the actual amount. We got the bills from the specialists we saw right away and made payments on them. Fast forward to December 2011, was at a birthday party for granddaughter, when my wife's ex-husband pulled me aside and asked if I knew anything about the phone calls he was getting from the hospital. Called the hospital and found out we owed them for the stay. Had never got a statement from them and they had turned it over to collections. Apparently there was an old address in the computer system that they sent the bills to. Called the hospital found out what was going on, got the hardship app, filled it out, sent it in. In the meantime the so called collection people were harassing us. The hospital did grant us a reduction in the bill. Tried to deal with collections, offered them 50%, was refused. Called the hospital back and asked them what the final balance was, with the reduction. Was given a number, much less than what I thought is should have been, asked twice if that was right and the final amount, was told yes. Sent a check for the amount. Now collections is still trying to get the difference of the reduction. Now I think that it should be paid in full, but they just say they made a mistake and I still owe the difference. Should I pay the difference or let it go to court and air their dirty laundry? Sorry about length, but this is really starting to eat me up. Hope see some logic on this. Thanks Daryl

My 2008 Venture does not have that many miles on it but I have had clutch (engine) flair a couple of times now. Riding today confirmed it. When I first got this bike I spent a huge amount of time in parking lots making low speed turns etc. etc. Which means I did an inordinate amount of clutch slipping. I have installed the lower geared V-Max rear end. Which while that doesn't hurt the clutch in itself did change the way I ride. That might, just might mind you be a little harder on the clutch. I know it is harder on my breathing. I have also had the bike run on the dyno a couple of times. So I am not surprised I am getting a little slip (flair) here and there. Since I am planning a trip later this year I think clutch changing time has slipped up on me. So what do I need? It the Skydoc mod the best way to go? any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Hi, I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, I came down here to Madrid, Spain for a short vacation unfortunately I was mugged at the park on my way to the hotel where I lodge, all cash, credit card and my cellphone were stolen from me but luckily for me I still have my passports with me. I've been to the embassy here in Madrid but the Police here are not helping issues at all and my flight leaves shortly from now but I'm having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave this hotel until I settle the bills because I don't have any money with me here, the amount needed now is just $1,850, so I will be glad if you can help me with this amount... I am so confused right now, but thank God I weren't injured because I complied immediately, though, I suffer little injury on my left arm. I'm freaked out at the moment, so I really need your assistance to get back home soon and I'll surely pay you back upon return. Waiting to hear from you today. Thanks. Mike Goeman.

I hired a friend to do some dry wall for me this winter in his spare time. He is a rascal and will only give me his hours and not his hourly rate. He is an engineer who normally does large project management of hospitals colleges etc. but is between jobs right now. Its a little bit like hiring a doctor to give first aid. I'd like to pay him a fair amount but not engineer rates. What would a fair amount per hour be in a small town in Midwest Iowa? Tim Lantz

Though I am not officially listing my bike yet, the plan is to get a newer bike in the next couple of months if Murphy doesn't come calling. You'll have to wait till I make a final decision on what it will be before I'll share my choice. However that means I'd be selling my blond '83 Royale, almost new tires, delinked brakes with stainless lines, super brace, highway pegs and or boards, running boards front and back, upgraded R/R, all running and brake tail light converted to LED, H9 head light, new battery, new tires, most all venture line chrome and accessories (I think), about 47K miles. Butt Butler. Cassette deck works! I have some miscellaneous new OEM parts as well including a stator. No issues with second gear or frame. If you are or know of someone who might be interested give me a shout, I'm tentativelly shooting for a 2-3 month time frame, Unless you want to give me some astronomical amount of money, then it'd be sold yesterday . 'Cause I may do that anyway with the right (and fair) amount.

The Little Sturgis Rally in Sturgis, KY has been shut down permanently. The announcement came today and was due to the fact that fair board wanted an EXPONENTIALLY amount of money for renting the grounds for one week. The cost went from $1500 to $17,000. The rally is no more.

I managed to break the antenna on my '86 VR today right at the CB load (wide part). Anyone have the entire antenna shaft where it screws into the mount that they would part with for a reasonable amount? Thanks for your help.

Hi folks.. I had picked up a new carb synch gauge, the four dials one.. And used it on the bike today.. I already have the carb tune with the rods that bounce up and down but the 4 dials gauge came at a super good price so why not. Wow, that was easy to set up and quicker to balance the carbs.. Maybe TOO easy? If I may pose a few questions to those who are experienced with this type of gauge. In regards to the little restrictors, how much do you close these off? They have to be open to a certain amount to let the vacuum do it's job, but too much and the needles bounce like crazy, too little and you wont get an accurate reading.. I did mine where the needles bounce between two indicator points.. to me this seemed like the best amount of bounce to go with? As you can see in the photo, the needles are bouncing pretty well spot on across the board.. When I started they were up and down a few notches but a few turns of the screw driver and everything balanced in nicely. I don't know why I feel this was much easier than the Carb Tune? Did I get this right for the amount of restriction to put on the valves? Cheers

I'm going to give Dynabeads a try when I put on my new rubber. Does any one know what the amount is that goes in each tire. What I've found so far is 1oz in the front and 2oz in the rear. Does this sound right.

I just read this article: http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/touring_motorcycles_comparison/index.html "finicky handling when loaded, poor braking power." Was one comment. It looks like this article was trying out the first year that the new Ventures came out, way back in 1999. In this article, they complained quite a bit about the Venture's handling when loaded down, the other two bikes in the comparo faired better in this dept. They also complained about the brakes. Did Yamaha iron out these bugs (if they did exist) after the first year of production? Maybe part of the handling problems were due to tire issues? They bragged up the Harley's storage but from what I can tell, the Venture comes in at the exact same amount of storage capacity but more of it is found in the saddlebags and less in the trunk but it carries the same total amount as the Harley. Actually, it's better to have more of the weight low anyway.

Clutch Lever Free Play
MasterGuns posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ok, I am very slowly eliminating operations that could have a detrimental effect on shifting. I am now interested in the amount of free play of the clutch lever. From dead center of the ball at full extension, can anyone tell me the amount of free play their clutch lever has? I measured this one and it measures precisely at 1/2 inch. I simply don't know if that is good or bad. Oh yeah this bike is a 1st Edition, 86. All should be the same; 83 - 93 (Clutch lever free play, that is). Thanks in advance -
It was a beautiful last week on the parkway.I saw a White Venture and a white RSTD in Va.near Fancy Gap. What really shocked we were the amount of BMWs on the parkway last week.I usually see an inordinate amount of Goldwings and Ultra classic but it seemed every other bike was a BMW last week. Was there a rally or is everyone trading in their rides on a BMW?

My rear Dunlop E-3 on my 84 has developed some pretty serious scalloping.. I generally run about 42 psi in that tire. I don't run real agressive in corners and do run a fair amount of slab.. Any ideas why this happens... I had hoped to get considerably more mileage than that. I got nearly 20 K on my previous E-2s.
