I just returned from a ride through the Western US. Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. Clocked 6,200+ miles. I rode with a friend on a 2009 Ultra so I was able to make some good comparisons. The trip was fantastic but there were issues with the bike, some of which have been reported here in the past. Make no mistake though. The Venture is a great bike for a long trip like this and I am very happy with it. Altitude ranged from well over 7000 feet to below sea level. If anyone is interested I will post a performance report (including the good, the bad and the ugly with the bike) and a separate trip report when I can wright them up. Oh and I have pictures. Mike

Ok I've been patient enough. I want to see the group pic from sat at Tybee Island. I got a whole different altitude for that one. Margaret

Hi everyone, I have a 2006 RSTD and have read several posts (and Freebird's excellent detailed step-by-step picture show - Thanks!) regarding 17.5 pilots and going up one size on all main jets. I have a question about altitude. I am at 3500 feet in Calgary, AB and often travel the Rockies at 6000 ft plus... I have K&Ns, BUB slipons and the Dyna ignition module. Has anyone with similar equipment run for long periods at 3500 - 6000 feet? If so, how did the richer mixture work out? I'm for anything that adds smooth and more HPs but don't want to go the wrong direction and end up too rich.... Oh and I pull an Aspen Classic which is large as trailers go - probably 500 pounds loaded

Last year after building the bike it was running smooth but I've been wondering why it felt a little sluggish. Figured it was just the weight. After letting it sit over the winter I had a hell of a time starting it which a bunch of you gave a bunch of suggestions and with those I got it running again. Well yesterday after running a few blocks and shutting down for an hour, it didn't want to start again. So I pulled the plugs, which looked like they were soaked in oil. I cleaned them and tried again. It ran for a little bit then got really rough. Yanked plugs again, cleaned them, repeat. Pulled them a 3rd time, cleaned them and still the same thing. So finally called a buddy here in town and first thing he said was "did you swap out for hotter plugs? Don't forget, you have altitude to adjust for up here". So got a set of hotter plugs and that was it. Thing not only runs like a bat outa heck, but it's running way better than it was last year. So just a reminder, if you live at high altitude, don't forget to take into account altitude/air pressure when you are tuning.
