It looks like the dreaded pogo effect has started. The rear shock will hold air but the damping is going. Unfortunately the warranty ended last October so I'm on my own. I hate to drop $600 on new one but I don't trust something used from eBay for something like this. Does anyone know of a viable alternative or am I pretty much stuck on this? Can't complain too much though, I have 90k on the bike so it's not like I didn't get any use out of it?

G'day All; I notice that there was a thread on this subject where PGunn decided to try fitting Hypercharger Air Filter Units to his bike. This was back in 2008. Has anyone actually 'eliminated' the existing system and found a new, less 'Bulky' alternative as yet? Cheers, Paul.

Is there an alternative to the OEM Yamaha gas filter 1FK-24560-10 That can be used in the stock holder? They have less expensive filters at Autozone & advanced Auto (like the ones I buy for my beetle), but does anyone know what application would fit the holder? http://www.bikergarage101.com/media/00/a20791f12fec63c7847cbc_m.JPG Also what size diameter inlets are they 5/16 (ok 8 mm)?

Their products are generally found on high end bikes with a real reputation for quality, so if it's true, this is great news. Ron

I was wondering what others have done to raise the height of their stock (or other) handlebars and also bring the bars back closer to the rider. Suggested options for risers and/or alternative style handlebars will be appreciated. Note on any special installation procedures will also help. Thx.

Who's up for a ride to Gettysburg? We're thinking about September 4th but that is Labor Day weekend. That could be good or bad. Contemplating the same diner we had last year's M&E. Let me know alternative dates if that doesn't work. We can't do August at all or September 25th.

With only 4,000 Km on my Venture, I had battery issues which caused me to require bump starting if there was a hill or a couple of willing BC Ferry workers to push the beast, or a jump start, which requires taking off the driver seat. What a pain THAT is! Has anyone come up with an alternative to the awkward nuts that secure the seat? My dealer replaced the battery, so I may not need to remove the seat for a while, but it would be handy to have an alternative for any future needs. Thanks for any help.

It just might be thinking (scary thought aye?) but has anyone come up with an alternative to the controls that the 1st gen has? Let me go deeper. Spending time on momma's CB750, the controls can get fairly aged just like some of ours. So, those forum members started using some newer XJ/XS Yammi controls that they were able to wire up, function and look great. Every once in a while I cruise ebay a bit. Today I noticed some chrome second gen controls with what looks to have what we have minus the choke. They do look nice. All the 1st gen controls on ebay are complete crud. So, back to my question, will this work? I am no electrician at all and wiring diagrams make my stomach queasy. Are the bar sizes the same?

I'm going out on a limb here. I've seen a couple guys talk about changing the body style of their Gen 1 and get fried so I am going to set this up a little bit. I am in the process of painting all of my fairings. Anyone who has taken off all the fairings knows that 25 year old ABS is "band-aided" together. I am not a mechanical genious, but I think that the ABS fairings are one of the weak links to these machines lasting a lot more years. You can ABS patch and glue as much as you want, but you are still patching 25 year old ABS. I would love to see a thread where some people explore alternative fairing systems for the Gen 1's. For some of you entrepreneurs, I think there could be a little business for a front fairing and a heat sheild for the sides covering up the wire with some leather bags for example. With that, I'll jump off. Be gentle.

We will be taking a weekend trip from Fredericksburg, VA to my sister's house in Charlotte. Normally we take 360 to 58 to 29 out of VA into Greensboro and then get on 85. This is the first bike trip and that's what we will probably do on the way down. There does not appear to be a good alternative for 85 between Greensboro and Charlotte. On the way back was considering Rte 49 all the way up and across Kerr Lake until I hit 360. Any info on this road, particularly in NC.

Hey guys , I might have found an alternative antenna/receiver for the zumo (XM only) for around $50.00 plus free shipping. I just ordered it after talking to the tech on which "Off the record" he believes we have a good chance that it will work . As it looks so far , this unit is for indoor use , but if we place it under the fairing or inside weatherproof compartment . We will also have to get an adaptor.extension to connect to zumo's base , as it has a right angle connection . I found one of them and if I remember correctly , they run $18.00 . Even if you have to buy 2 of these , 1 for scoot and 1 for cage , it is still cheaper than the GXM 30 Garmins offers for over $200.00 . It should be here in a few days to where I will attempt to see if it works and pass the news along here and to the tech at where I purchased it . If it doesn't work , the tech said I could return with no problems and if it does work , along with a reveiw/report directly to him , he will consider a group discount for the forum members interested . Until then , Gene

I am new to this forum as well as the Venture itself. My 2003 does not have a set of driving/lights - just a single headlight. I was wondering if there was a "best" alternative for buying a set of lights and a bar that would be of high quality and that could be installed with no modifications. Appreciate any direction on this.
