Well, The dust has settled a bit since Jean and I have moved into our new home! I have gone thru all of my Classified Ads in the "Member Vendor" section, and they are all updated now. My new shop is still a "Mountain" of boxes, but I have found all of my kit parts, and can ship anything needed. Here is a link to the Classified Ads: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=500&ppuser=4738 It would be my pleasure to help any VR.ORG Member with their winter projects! Earl and Jean

I know its been done before...but I'm having issues! I should be getting all kinds of hits with this search.... I do get 3500 or so if I look at all types....but if I look at "auction" it drops to 20! There must be several thousand ads out there! Can someone correct what is wrong with this search? It should be looking for any ads with the quoted words, minus all the others. ???????????????????????? "Yamaha Venture", "Venture Royale", "Venture Royal" -gt -700 -1993 -1994 -1995 -1996 -1997 -1998 -1999 -2000 -2001 -2002 -2003 -2004 -2005 -2006 -2007 -2008 -2009 -2010 -2011 -2012 -rsv -600 -snow -star -enticer -blaster -600cc -480cc -wave -viper -vector -xenon -phazer -mountain -exciter -snow* -srx -venom -vt600 -vt480 -vt700 -sxr -carbide -Montana -Aprilla -Chevrolet -Pontiac -Chevy -Aprilia I want to see what stuff is going for before I part out the 84 parts bike. Taking offers now!

Hi guys, so I'm smoke testing my prog springs, R1 rotors, EBC HH's front and rear, new rear EBC. I thought I'd follow everyone's lead and ditch the power robbing AD's. I'd talked to Skydoc and I know he's busy now so I thought I'd fashion a couple of my own. Cut out some steel and lined the opening with gasket maker. Sat overnight. Loaded up prog springs and 13.5oz 10wt each leg tightened everything up. Dropped off center stand and SPLAT! I was wearing at least $6 of my $10 fork oil. Blasted out from the block plates. I had those things cranked down! I should have taken a picture so I could nominate myself for "Worst Bel-Ray Rep Of The Year." Even worse after I rode 8 miles. I'm starting to assume the o rings are necessary? I hate to tote the AD's around just to act as a cover Has anybody else made any? What's the key? Thanks! (I know this is pretty ugly but I'm kinda in a hurry as I'm going to Germany next year and am not sure what kind of space I'm going to have.)

Time to seek your input again. As most of you have noticed by now, I have created a classifieds area within the forum. One of the reasons for this is that our supporting members such as Sky_Doc, Rick Butler, Carbon_One, etc. were constantly having problems with their ads expiring in the old system. There is no way to make ads there permanent so those vendors who have multiple items for sale over a long period were always having to re-create their ads once they went away. I worked on that problem for some time but just didn't get it to work correctly. So, I decided to test the classifieds in the forum. The downside to having them in the forum is that they are now set to expire in 60 days except for our member vendors. In all other areas, the ads expire in 60 days and you do not have an option to renew them and you will not receive a notification that your ad is about to expire. There is also no way to do auctions for St. Judes or otherwise. So, my question is, which do you prefer? Do you like the old classifieds better or the new forum based ones? If you like the forum based ads then I have to assume that you are OK with the limitations regarding no renewals and etc. At this time, I have turned off the old ads so that no new ones can be placed but I can easily just turn it back on. As for the member vendors, one option would be to let them keep their forum areas but have all other ads placed in the old system. I don't want two complete systems however. I don't think....heck...that is another option though and it's really up to you. As always, your feedback will be appreciated.

OK folks, it has come to my attention that the area that I created in the classifieds for our member vendors may not have been a good idea. I created that area to make it easy to find our members who also offer us some pretty nice products at good prices. I am now hearing though that it is making their products harder to find. For example, if you didn't KNOW that Rick Butler offers seat mods for motorcycles, it would be hard to find it. You would have to open Member Vendors and then click on Rick Butler to even find out what he offers our members. So, should I get rid of that area and just move the ads back to their respective categories?

We dont realize how fast things change until we look back at an old ad. The stuff that has probably changed the most is the computer related stuff, so here are some old ads to enjoy. http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2010/10/15478/ Brian

No, it's not about my new 'backrest.' It's to help stop an annoyance, and a disgrace! There are several car stealerships that try to take advantage of our younger, less-informed US Marines stationed here at Camp Lejeune (which is 8 miles from my house) by offering them GUARANTEED financing, blah blah blah. Well, they're now going WAY out of their way to try and bait these Marines in. Please take a moment to look at http://onslow.craigslist.org/cta/ This is the Car/Truck ads for Jacksonville, NC. There are a LOT of ads featuring "Brian The Car Guy" and others listed in Chesapeake, and VA Beach. I'm just asking all lthe VR Members (who read this, and can spare a few clicks to help out the Marines here) to find any ads for "Brian The Car Guy" "Chesapeake" or "VA Beach" and flag them as MISCATEGORIZED. These Marines already dodge enough bullets overseas, let's help them dodge these domestic ones! I've contacted these dealerships personally, and asked them to please remove their postings in this areas, since they are all over 3 HOURS AWAY. They pretty much told me Marines are easy targets. Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, and maybe I should just stay off Craigslist... but it pi$$es me off.

Ok, gotta a question. Will the forks off a MkII fit a MkI without any physical alterations.. Just want to make absolutely sure... I'm aware of the difference in AD's. The reason I'm asking is to make doublely sure before sending off a spare set of MkII forks to RACETECH and have their suspension valves installed for the '83. When this is done there will no longer be a need for the AD's so it's a moot point. Some time ago Rick Butler refered me to these guys and gave great feedback on them.

Yesterday I upgraded our classifieds software to the latest version. To be honest, I don't know why I wasted my time because there were very few new features added and none that I felt are really needed. I had hoped to see things like "email to a friend" and etc. but it was not to be. I had also hoped that the accuracy of the zip code functions would be improved but that does not appear to be the case either. One thing I did do was add two new fields. One for city and one for state. If people use those it will help when the zip codes are off. I also move or deleted a lot of ads from the first gen venture category. That area is supposed to be for complete bikes, not parts. There is a separate category for first gen parts. Keeping the ads in the correct categories will make it much easier for folks to find what they are looking for. Some folks had listed their parts in both places. I started out trying to see which ones were listed in both sections and then deleting the double entries and then moving the ones that were not listed in the correct category but that was taking way too much time. I finally just deleted the ones that were in the wrong place. Sorry for the inconvenience but if you had parts listed in the First Gen Bikes category, you will need to relist your items.

I've added a new feature to the forum that some of you may find useful. When you click on the "search" link in the menu bar, you will now find an option to use "Google" to search the forum. I did this because there was a recent report where a member was looking for a specific thread about installing a Markland Hitch and it didn't come up in the search. Now I just experimented with this. If you use the normal search and enter "Markland Hitch Install", it returns about three threads. If you use the Google search it returns about 2 pages of threads. There is also an option there to search the entire Web or only the VentureRider forum. You WILL see some ads at the top and bottom of the search results pages. They should be related to your search though and just like the Google Ads on the side of the forum, I DO make a couple of penneys to help support the site if anybody sees one of interest and clicks on it. So.....I hope you find the new feature helpful.

Hi everyone, A bit of a query. I have noticed several parts ads going back to 2006. I even e-mailed one of them last month. There was no answer. If the parts aren't available or the owner isn't around anymore ca these ads be removed or archived? I do understand if the items are still available. Put up a revision or an update so we know the stuff is current. Thanks for taking time to read this. J.B.

Does anyone have any thoughts or insights on Yamahas marketing (Or lack thereof) of the Venture? When my wife and I were looking for a touring bike we looked at Wings, HD's and BMW. I read reviews in various riding magazines. Not a mention of the RSV anywhere. I see ads for the all the other players but zilch on RSV. I do see V Star ads here and there. I have had several people see my 07 RSV and ask me what it was. Experienced riders (though admitedly not the touring type) have seen the Venture on the tank and asked me who makes it. We went into the local dealer of all things two wheeled to buy a set of tires for my Suzi and saw the RSV hiding in the corner of the showroom. We love this ride and wonder why Yamaha doesn't want to tell anyone about it.

Newbie here. I will be picking up a used '99 RSV in mid July. Bought on Ebay and haven't seen it yet. My wife is very short and I had to put a "riser plate" on my Goldwing so her feet would rest on the floorboards. I'm assuming I'll have the same issue with the RSV. I've seen some ads for Baron's kit, but man, they are pricey! Anyone have a better solution for the RSV? Thanks, Jeff
