Two quick questions for those who trailer often. I have an '86 VR and Piggybacker trailer. 1 - What air pressure to you run in the trailer tires? 2 - Getting some sway when I hit 75, below that is good. Any adjustments I can make? Dave

So, after 2 years of having a couple of local shops (with the same migrating staff) adjust carbs for poor fuel mileage and backfiring (particularly on deceleration), I went to another shop after they couldn't seem to fix the issues. He was asking a series of different questions about valve adjustments, etc that the other shops weren't. He said he wanted to do a leak down test...One reading was a wopping 83%. So, I understand I am in for a valve job after getting jerked around with carb adjustments for 2 years to try to fix my measely 200-250 km per tank and decel backfiring. The new-to-me shop is a one-man shop, charges a much more reasonable hourly rate than others I have been going to, and has been seemingly much more knowledgeable. One question...just because I am tired of being jerked around....what does a valve job on an 03 Venture generally go for? I understand between the leak-down test, the valve job and whatever else comes into play I am looking at the better part of 2500-3K. Thanks

Can the handle bars on an 89 VR be moved closer. Closer meaning so the grips are brought closer together so my arms are not so far appart. Maybe 2 inches for each side. If that can be done, then can the bars be moved higher. Higher meaning so the grips are raised some. Because by bring the grips in a couple inches the grips I think drops some, so need to compensate by raising the grip position. I'm not wanting to do any extreme adjustments. This would allow me to sit back a little more onto my backrest which is already at its most forward position. Lastly what type of slow extremely speed handleing or manuvering balance might I encounter if the adjustments are possible. I'm only about 170lb, 5' 8" and so I can't man handle the VR.

Considering purchasing the Bakup drivers backrest for my 2006 RSTD. They are proud of them because they are in the $350.00 range. About $150.00 to $200.00 more then their competition They appear to be well engineered and have a range of adjustments. Anyone have experience with them?

I am hoping to tap into the brain trust here once again. I have been working on mounting the passenger arm rests I got from Snaggletooth. I have got that part figured out (photos to be posted later), but, when I tried to put the saddle bags back on, the "posts" were a tiny bit short. I am at work right now and was wondering if there is any adjustments to the length of the mounting posts that go into the slot? Thanks in advance. Dave

I couldn't find anything on this so here goes. A local dealer changed a rear tire and never put the metal sleeves back in the left saddlebag....within 100 miles I got a nice big crack in the rear. They accepted responsibility in April and I just got the new bag...finally (but they did it). They didn't want to touch it again and that was fine so I mounted it today and the cover doesn't seem to want to close properly. I am leery of bending the tongues and don't see any other adjustments. I tightened the sides first and bottom last to minimize twisting the bag. Any ideas what I might try....I could live with it but it was nice when it locked on just a drop of the lid as opposed to a hardy push.. Thanks in advance

Recently I sealed a fuel leak on one carb. During testing I noticed one carb slide was lagging behind the others (bad diaphragm). For the moment I have repaired the diaphragm with silicone. The bike was running rough after the repair, leading me to believe the synch was probably off. My home-made synch tool verified that the carbs were off and I made adjustments. The bike did not seem to properly respond to these adjustments. I decided to pull the pilot screws caps and check the settings. It has been said that a general setting for the pilot screws would be 2.25 turns out. I found mine to be between 3.25 and 3.75! My thinking is that after 24 years and 63,000+ miles, these screws must have backed out on their own. I adjusted all of them to 2.5 turns out and took my wife to dinner (45 mile round-trip). The bike is running much smoother below 4k and seems to have better torque. Comments from the gallery?

Last minute preparations to go for a ride. Homemade table I made last year is great for prepping - oil changes - cleaning - etc. Goes to total of 39'' and is about half height in pictures. Works on hydrolic-ram after the original design of floor jack didn't work out. Works great with multiple height adjustments and can do it with a touch of a button instead of jacking up and down with the jack.Have used it to work on a few other bikes and is great also for lawn tractors and snow blowers.

How do you adjust the timing if it's needed? The manual tells how to check it but not how to adjust it. I assume you need to pull the flywheel off to make any adjustments. Or at least pull the sidecover off if you can make adjustments through the flywheel. But I kind of dought that. Anybody have any pics? I've been having some pinging lately when under a load. Not sure if I got some bad gas when I went to the Dells this weekend. I'll try some high grade stuff from one of my normal stops before making any changes to anything though.
