I'm still in the process of getting my '83 roadready. I did actually ride it for the first time the other day. She really runs nice considering I haven't had the carbs adjusted yet. The problem I'm having now is that the red warning light is always flashing. Where do I begin in the process of chasing down the problem?

Can you tell me how often to change the oil on the Midnight Venture 2008? Also are the tappets (valves) manually adjusted or automatically? Thanks, just trying to get an idea of the maintenence, ie if I can do it myself.

I have a 2006 RSV with 41,000 miles. I just returned from a 2 week trip from Ohio to California and back. The bike ran like a dream and I want to keep it that way. I am wondering what preventive work I should be doing on my bike?? Here is a list of recent mait/work; 1) New fuel pump - warranty 2) New stearing head bearing - warranty 3) New brake lines/front and back 4) Valves adjusted 2 months ago 5) New radio/rec - warranty 6) Just chaged oil after my trip and final drive oil 7) System flush before the trip - still have original radiator, hoses, etc.... Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!

just curious how many miles some of you have gone with no valve adjust... my 2005 with 35,000 miles is running better than ever and really hate to tear into it if i don't need to. i had an 2006 suzuki c50T and had valves adjusted twice and never really ran the same but cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I'm a believer in don't fix it if it aint broke.

I want to check the valve clearances on my 96 Royal Star. The manual states they should be checked cold (less than 95 degrees) at room temperature. I only have an old wood stove in my shop and although I can get the inside temperature high enough to make it comfortable for working, I don't think it would be considered room temperature. What do you think would be the minimum temperature to be sure I get accurate clearance readings? I would like to get the valves adjusted and reassemble the bike but would it be better for me to wait till Spring when the outside temterature gets higher? I don't want to do all this work and get inaccurate readings because the engine is too cold. Thanks Doug

I've been thinking about buying another bike in a few months, and Harley was giving demos at the Knoxville bike rally this past weekend. I was surprised at some things I liked about the Harley. I hadn't ridden a Harley in years, and when I fired the first one up I thought "No"! It had the old Harley shake, but as soon as I started moving it smoothed right out. The first one I rode was an Ultra, and it was very smooth. The other things I liked was the low end power and the braking. The brakes seemed much better than my RSTD. It also handled better when stopping at red lights if that makes sense. Then I tried a Road Glide. It seemed basically the same except the riding position. After riding about 10 miles my back was hurting. I don't know if it was the way the handlebars were adjusted or what, but I was disappointed in the ride. Then I tried an Electraglide Classic and it rode better than the Ultra. I really liked it.I think they are basically the same bike, and I think it was just the way the controls were adjusted. Overall I was pretty happy with the way they rode. I think I was expecting more vibration and worse handling.

A HUGE thank you to V7Goose!! I made the ride to Texas this past weekend where V7Goose provide me with a one on one maintenance clinic. Here are just a few things done and covered: 1. Set the floats in the carbs 2. Sync the carbs 3. Adjusted steering head 4. Corrected wiring issues in passing light bar 5. Corrected the manufactures defect and dealer error issues with light bar 6. Installed and balanced new rear tire 7. Check and greased rear wheel assembly 8. Installed "levelizers" and adjusted air pressure in shocks Kent (V7Goose) provided information, service and hospitality greater than expected or deserved. So here's to you Kent; a tip of the hat, a bow at the waist and a hardy handshake of appreciation my friend. Thank you !!! Tony (archeryguy)

I just bought my 2000 Venture MM from a gentleman in Las Cruces, New Mexico (elevation over 3,000 feet) and it was riden to Corpus Christi, Texas for delivery. When I rev up the engine and back off the throttle, there is a slight backfire. Someone suggested that the carburators have to be adjusted to sea level. I called the service department of the local Yamaha dealer and was told that the carburators (4 of them) have to be adjusted and/or the jets have to be changed out. He said if it is just an adjustment, it would take an hour and a half to adjust all four. If the jets have to be changed out, it would take an hour and a half per carburator..... all of the above at $70 PER HOUR. The carburator change out would take 6 hours to complete. Is this a reasonable quote or is there something else I should do? There are some intercom and a few small issues....but I will save that for some other time. Right now I just want to get my new Venture running smooth at sea level. Thanks for any advise... Mike

I have a quarter inch free play on the throttle on my 1999 RSV. I adjusted about 1/8 of it out of my carb. When I adjusted the rest out on my handle bars the throttle will not spring back like it should. If you adjust it back then it will spring back. I have even sprayed cable lube in it. Any advice? Thanks hairman

I read a tech article on another forum about how the pilots are adjusted lean from the factory. (That sounds normal) It recommended turning all four out 1/4 turn. For those that have adjusted their pilots... does that sound about right? FYI, my Venture is an '07.

Hi everyone, I think this is my first post. I had my low beam go out on my 83 Venture. I replaced the bulb and noticed the next time I hit the low beams it was again not working. I bought another H4 60/55 and immediately check the low beam and it's still not working. I've adjusted the headlight lower so that the high beam doesn't blind oncoming drivers but this also restrict the range that is lit when driving at night. Has anyone had this problem or any ideas what may be causing this problem.

Does the timing chain tensioner on the 83-93 VR's ever need adjusting? I would assume it does it automaticly. If it dosen't do it on its own, how do you know if it needs to be adjusted? Would it make any noise or just run different? There isn't a lot of info in the manuals.
