A young kid working as a Jimmy John's driver was at the curb and really not moving as I traveled 3/4 block at 25mph. Just as I reached him he hit his left turn signal and then turned in front of me, headed to a driveway to turn around, as I was driving by. He started lying about things and if it goes to court he'll probably claim I was illegally passing him on a residential street by then. Little by little he's changed his story so far. My view, he negligently failed to check his side view to ascertain that it was safe to pull into lane much less to cross traffic to driveway on opposite side of street. I had the police come out but officer said he is supposed to write a ticket if he can but he didn't see it and didn't feel able to write a ticket. He didn't even record our respective views on the accident at the time. So much for professional witness. He might still be useful if there is a court appearance, but it would be nice if it didn't come to that I suppose. It seems that police here don't write tickets to protect motorcyclists from disregard of car drivers. The kid's dad says he wants to possibly try to save the kid's insurance by paying me on the side for damages. I may have bent forks, anti-dive busted off, bits of signal plastic and other stuff all about. I haven't had a good daylight look at it yet but it rolled all the way over onto the left side cowling so I expect bad things. I had removed side plastics but also engine guards while I'm working on some stuff. 1. Should I have this painful, firm, tuna can sized lump on my thigh checked out? 2. Should I try to deal with this guy or just go to my agent? Got Liability only. 3. Please give me a ballpark estimate of costs if you're able, sorry the description is so vague but I need orders of magnitude. 4. I have the blue color for 1993, what other years had this same color and what is it called? 5. What am I not even thinking of that I should be concerned over? The car insulated the young kid from the accident while I took it on physically with my motorcycle and myself.

http://www.bohn-armor-pants.com I found a link to this site while browsing. The pants look interesting, I already have an armored jacket that I like. Has anyone used Bohn armor or have an opinion. I broke my right arm & shoulder in an accident 3 years ago, so am getting back into riding more cautiously than I have been in the past.

Amy just stopped over to give us the news. Tom is basically OK but in the hospital for a day or two. They were stopped to make a left turn and got rear ended by some younger guy doing 50mph in a 40. This happened around 7PM last night. Tom was complaining about chest pains after the accident, probably from the seat belt, but they put him in the CCU at Buffalo General Hospital. The force of the impact broke both seats and Tom literally bent the headrest brackets with his head. Amy thinks thehy will total her new car. If anybody wants to call Tom, or if you locals want to visit, he is in Room 415 and the phone number is (716) 859-6415.

A rider from Rome Georgia ran off Ga 19 north of Dahlonega Saturday and was killed. Copied from local news. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Missing motorcyclist found dead The Dahlonega Nugget The body of a missing Floyd County motorcyclist was found by local deputies Monday morning, approximately two days after he disappeared from a winding mountain roadway. Woodrow Clemmons Jr., 61, was just north of Stonepile Gap on Highway 19 when he apparently lost control of his bike and left the roadway. “It was a very steep part of the road where it dropped off,” said Investigator Wesley Burnett of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to the accident, the Rome resident had been riding with a fellow biker who was in the area but reportedly didn’t witness the accident. “They got separated from one another,” said Burnett. “[Clemmons] hadn’t returned on Saturday and on Sunday morning they had been calling different locations checking on him.” A bulletin was soon issued to regional law enforcement officers advising them to be on the lookout for Clemmons and his Harley Davidson Working with the phone company, LCSO investigators were able to locate the victim’s cell phone which put them within a mile the accident site. “We went ahead and got a ping on the phone and we were able to locate him,” said Burnett. Officials said that it appeared as though Clemmons died in the actual accident.

I hope this link works - it lends to to insignifance of a ct on a bike. If ever there was an accident looking for a place to happen, this could be it. The EZ steer is just an outstanding innovation http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/mcy/3139776207.html

A rider died today in Sioux Falls. The accident happened last night, there were 5 vehicles involved. The driver that caused the accident tried to run and was caught. He spent his 21st birthday in jail today. The driver was doing 60 mph (in town) and texting when the accident happened at an intersection, and the biker was caught up in the accident. Sad sad day in Sioux Falls. As of right now 10:00 p.m., over 100 people are holding a candlelight vigil in the intersection as I am writing this. The police are still trying to get all the evidence together before reopening the intersection. PLEASE be careful out there people.......I am tired of watching and reading about things like this. I just wish people in cars were as careful as we are.

I got a private post from Brian (Golf&Venture) today. He is doing better. He is able to function fairly well on his own, but tires easily, as would be expected. After such a severe accident, and all the broken bones he has, it will take quite awhile. He says he is doing very good on all of his physical therapy. His '91 VR is toast...totaled out. It was a nice looking bike...emphasis on...was. He also has an '89 VR that he was in the process of working on, and then decided to buy the '91 VR. His riding aspirations are a lot in the dump right now, and there are considerations of giving up riding. It is an individual choice, given what he has gone through. He has a wife, daughter, grandkids...to think about. Let's all keep Brian in our thoughts, and hope he returns to 100%, if possible, and gets back to riding if he can, and if he chooses to.

While sitting here in the office every morning I have a news radio station playing in the background. Now that the weather has turned warmer every morning and evening I hear traffic reports of Motorcyclists down, Motorcyclist vs Semi, Motorcylist Abulance on it's way, Life flight, Fatalities..... etc. I'm not talking about once in a while... it's every morning and evening!! It's like mayhem carnage. While typing this another motorcycle accident to the hospital report was just given... It scares the cr@p out of me, to the point I don't run any errands around town any longer. It just ain't worth it...

Anyone have any stats as to which has a greater chance being in an accident? A car or a motorcycle? Been searching and nothing comes up.

Please pray for some friends of mine from church. They lost their daughter to a motorcycle/deer accident last week. She was on the back of her husbands motorcycle when they hit the deer. He is relatively unhurt as he was thrown to the side of the road. She was thrown into the middle of the road and ran over by a Van. Please keep everyone involved in your prayers. The husband and driver of the van have a heavy burden they are going to be carrying around. Thanks and God Bless Ryan

There was an accident just outside of the town I live in a couple of days ago. All I can find out is it was a Black Venture from Ontario. As far as I know the rider is in the hospital but I have no info. If anyone knows of anyone travelling in this area that may need some help or is a member here please let me know if there is anything I can do! Keith From CBC A motorcycle accident in central Newfoundland sent the driver to hospital Tuesday afternoon. The RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor says police responded to the accident at about 1 p.m. on the Trans Canada Highway just outside of Red Cliff. The 56-year-old man was eventually airlifted to St. John's. The RCMP says the resident of Ontario lost control of the bike and went off the road at the intersection to Red Cliff. The investigation continues into what caused the crash. There hasn't been any word on the extent of injuries.

A man driving a pickup truck was driving in the opposite direction when he crossed into their lane hitting them head on. He was speeding and is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. The man responsible for this tragedy was kicked out of a bar not far from where the incident occurred not long before the accident. That man, John P Heaney III was NOT arrested at the scene and has not been charged yet.John P Heaney III is a former Plainfield NJ police officer that retired after a disability claim. He was NOT arrested at the scene. I'm sure that if he plowed into a mother with her children or a group of kids on bicycles he would still be sitting in a jail cell. But he just hit a group of bikers. Please read this: http://bikersofameric...http://img1.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif Please feel free to forward it to anybody that you wish. We need to do all that we can to make sure that the man that caused this accident with his careless actions does not get away with drunk driving - and causing an accident that left two wives without their husband, and their children without a father. This happened about 5 mins from my house today....this time we lost a police officer. When will people start paying attention to the road and not their cellphones? http://www.macon.com/2011/06/09/1590553/traffic-accident-causes-congestion.html#disqus_thread UPDATE: Centerville police sergeant killed in WR motorcycle crash By JENNIFER BURK - jburk@macon.com WARNER ROBINS -- A Centerville police sergeant was killed in a Thursday morning accident between a motorcycle and sport utility vehicle in Warner Robins. It hasn't been a good week around here.....Tues morning a 7 yr old girl was getting on the school bus and a pick up killed her. Hit and run. It happened right down our road. The hubby was hauling gravel for the county and was the first one that came upon the accident. 18 kids on the bus watched it happen. She laid 3 bus lengths down the road. She was DOA. Thank God they found the driver of the pick up because every one of those kids could describe the truck. We live in a rural area where everyone knows everyone and it's really hit hard. I feel so bad for Gary as he's having flashbacks. He's a volunteer fireman/emt, but you never get over the sight of a little girl laying there lifeless. Anyway, was going to ask for your prayers for not only the little girl's family, but also the hubby..... but I'm afraid to even ask after I keep reading the the thread about people not thinking this is the right place.....so I guess I'll just ask for you to keep him in your thoughts. Thanks Deb NORTHWOOD — A 7-year-old Worth County girl was killed Tuesday morning by an alleged hit-and-run driver as she prepared to get on her school bus. The Iowa State Patrol identified the girl as Kadyn Halvorson of rural Kensett. The driver, identified as Aaron Dwayne Gunderson, 31, of Northwood, allegedly fled the scene but was later apprehended. Gunderson was ticketed for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Iowa State Patrol Trooper Mindy Griffin said the Northwood-Kensett school bus was stopped to pick up the child when a 2002 Chevrolet pick-up traveling southbound on Raven Avenue failed to stop for the bus and struck the girl. The accident happened at 7:49 a.m. at 4336 Raven Ave., near the home of the child’s babysitter. It’s about 2.3 miles north of 410th Street/County Road A38 between Northwood and Kensett. The child was crossing Raven Avenue to get on the northbound bus when she was hit. Griffin said the bus had its red lights activated and the stop arm was deployed from the side of the bus as required by law. The children on the school bus witnessed the accident, as did the babysitter, Griffin said. The vehicle and Gunderson were taken into custody by the Worth County deputies about two miles from the accident scene. The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed. Northwood-Kensett Superintendent Tom Nugent said Tuesday was a sad day for everyone in the school district. “We were notified of the tragic accident and we are now providing crisis assistance for our kids and we are working in collaboration with law enforcement,” Nugent said. — By Peggy Senzarino, Arian Schuessler

Started spring training yesterday - 440 mile ride yesterday. Working up to 500+ miles a day for next month's trip to Key West. First long ride in over a year since last summer we were both laid up after a white water rafting accident. Next weekend we'll be back at training. But boy did my legs ache today after the long ride.

I'll try to make this short. I have a friend who was a co-worker back in the 90's. He is a kind and gentle type of guy who would bend over backwards to help you out if you needed it. Well, I found out that he was paralyzed in an accident while riding his bicycle. He was traveling down a hill and hit a parked car. The car pulled over and stopped due to the new law in Washington State that requires you to not be driving and talking on your cell phone. So the driver did the right thing and Mark hit the car on his bicycle. I know what it's like to go down hill at a high rate of speed on a bike and you tend to look down because your trying to avoid rocks etc. Mark was looking down, hit the back of the parked car, and now is paralyzed. Seems the story should be over and I've said some prayers for Mark and his family. I decided to look on the Internet to see if anything was written about it and found a Corvette forum talking about it. He was called every kind of idiot there was and beyond. I guess we don't think about how our words can hurt folks sometimes. He's a friend of mine and it was an accident. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/off-topic/2641469-new-cell-phone-law-leads-to-serious-bicyclist-injury.html
