  1. OK......I got my "new" luggage rack home from MD without incident (i.e. it actually fits INSIDE the trunk it is designed to augment........sort of ironic/Confuscian, doncha think????) Anyway, not to wax philosophical........I've got the rack sitting in "dry-mount"/"test-mount"/"position-only" on my trunk lid (see attached pics).......but can't for the life of me figure out how I would know if it's in EXACTLY the "right" spot on the deck. Is there a mounting template that normally comes with these things when you buy them through "official channels"? (I picked mine up from the tall guy in the orange hat......and, damn my short memory.....what's his name again?? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/at...3&d=1370879583 We discussed all the intricacies of picking the right bolts, washers and grommets......but never really talked about how to pick an exact position/location. My thoughts, for what they're worth, are: - keep the front 'legs' about an inch back from the backrest so the vinyl ('er, fine Corinthian leather) can still be accessed for cleaning. (Armorall) - Make sure (for aesthetics, if nothing else) the back end doesn't extend beyond a vertical line up from the trailing edge of the trunk lid itself. - use the lid lock to find centre at the back end.....which is fine.....but the Midnight grommets on the upholstery don't seem to be centered on the backrest, so that method doesn't work for the front end! Should I just be getting a tape measure out and getting every edge TWO INCHES FROM "SOMETHING"?? Just curious if there was a "right" way. Thanks, anybody!
  2. These are the pictures of my new fuse block. The block came off of the ebay site for about $10 or $12. The fuses are in the exact order as they were originally in except the accessory fuse was moved from the top to the bottom by extending that wire, by doing this I got more slack in the cables to put on the new crimp connectors. In moving the accessory fuse to the bottom I was also able to jump to the next fuse possession which gives me the benefit of adding another fuse for another accessory but you will have to remember not to go over the 10 amp total for both accessory fuses. I removed the old glass fuse block and used the bottom screw to mount the new fuse block and drilled another hole in the battery mounting bracket and used a brass screw and nuts to mount the top of the new fuse block. This brass screw became my accessory ground and strain relied for the bikes cable assembly. The new fuse block came with a cover but it was too tall to allow for the bikes top cover to mount so I had to leave it off. I did use dialectic grease on all the connections. I did this last year and have been very happy with it. I got a lot of the ideas from other posts on Venture Rider.

  4. Submit a picture of a Venture Royale "Official" Accessory you own that you think no other member owns.
  5. Where does one attach the power wire to the accessory side of the electricial when adding a set of additional lights, so the key controls when the additional lights get power?
  6. I want to add an Accessory fuse block. I have searched the subject but can't find much info. I'm looking for what type of fuse box and relay I'll need and how to wire the relay. Thanks
  7. SO, have been shopping and in Canada, the dealers what a TON of $$$'s for these. Any suggestion on an online US place to buy and ship from? Is there a difference from the Yamaha Genuine accessory to the aftermarket knock-offs? Any help would be great. Need to complete the "chrome treatments" of the '05. Thanks
  8. If you could have a new accessory for your bike, what would you want to add? This could be electronic, leather, or safety chrome. Yama Mama

  11. Is this the latest in GW "safety chrome" ??
  12. I have read in past postings about connecting new toys to the "accessory lead". Where would I find this wire on my 06 RSTD? Headlight housing? Fuse panel? I just purchased a Garmin Zumo 660 GPS and will be hooking it up this weekend. I already have a couple of other leads connected directly to the positive post on the battery so it is getting a little crowded at that location. If someone can point me in the right direction and perhaps let me know what the colour coding is for this wire that would help speed up the installation project for this weekend!
  13. Does anyone know of a chrome or other accessory for the rear spearker grills on a Gen. 2 RSV. I'm afraid the plastic is a very weak design and want to cover the origional grill in the passenger armrests. Already had one rib break and was able to fix it with glue for ABS plastic. Don't think I'm the only one out here that sees' this as an issue, so if you don't know of a custom made accessory and have performed some type of modification, I would be interested in hearing about how you solved this concern. 14. I've been contemplating buying this product; however, when I look at the installation instructions, I can't "fathom" how to connect it up using a relay either for the switch as a whole or separate relays for each accessory connected. Does anyone have suggestions...wiring diagram c/w relay, etc?
  15. I have an 83 stock Venture (no cb or intercom) and the previous owner had installed a standard car radio in place of the original. I replaced it with a Kenwood KRC-38MR with remote control pad several years ago, and it has performed quite well. Then last summer I replaced the cycles' fuse block and rather than run everything off of one accessory feed I inserted a relay (energized by the accessory circuit) and added a secondary fuse block thru which I fed all of the accessories (so I could split out various light circuits separate from the radio circuit). The new radio circuit was fused at 5 amps and was connected to a noise suppressor that was there previously. Everything worked fine when I was testing it in the garage on the accessory position (without the cycle running). The first time I ventured out (no pun intended) and attempted to turn the radio on, I could not hear anything until I stopped - then it was making stuttering sounds, as if it was getting intermittent power in rapid succession. Within a few minutes I got no sound at all - lights are on and it changes stations, etc, but no audio output. Fuses are all intact. The leads to the speakers are reading a constant 6 volts. I verified the voltage going to the radio appears to be constant as far my cheapo voltmeter shows (slightly higher than 12 volts when the engine is running, as I would expect). So the first question is whether anyone has any ideas as to what I have done to the radio itself, and more importantly, is there a flaw in my design of running the radio off of a relay circuit? Am I possibly getting voltage spikes that are somehow filtered thru the accessory circuit, but being reintroduced via the relay? Assuming I have blown the radio, any suggestions as to a reasonable relacement with an eye for future additions of a GPS, MP3, cell phone and headset interfaces, etc... on a bike that has no built-in provision for those things currently? Thanks for any suggestions or ideas, Mark (Windrider1983).
  16. Just wondering... Where are you all mounting your accessory jacks, or cig lighters? I was looking at the fariing, and not really much room at all to install them through it. I have found a few bar mount models, but DAMN do they think those are made out of gold.. Also, how much spare juice does an 08 Venture have? I know on my Roadstar I don't have much electrical to spare without upgrading the stator.. Will these bikes handle some spare lighting and a heated vest and gloves and such?
  17. Well, with all the nice weather approaching, and plans for rides in the making, I was checking over my bike, looking for anything amiss. And I found it. In reality it is not a big deal, but I will tell you what it is. I have been trying to dress up my 2006 RSTD since I bought it new last year. I have added many chrome bits, for safety reasons of course. ISO grips, LED tail light, chrome shifter pegs etc. And a chrome rear brake pedal. You can see the attached picture. It is chrome, with 3 rubber strips for traction. Well, 1 of the rubber strips has come off, and is lost and most likely lonely and scared along the side of some random road in Ontario. I noticed this today. I checked the other 2 strips, and they are hanging on by the slightest of threads it feels like. I will certainly have to remove them before my next ride. Now, the brake pedal will still function without the rubber strips I am sure. But here is the thing. I went to check the site that I bought the pedal from, to see if they still had them in stock, I was going to complain, and ask for a replacement, or see if it qualified for warranty. But I noticed something. On the same page the pedal is listed on, there are replacement rubber strips and glue available. What strikes me is, the rubber is NOT designed to fall off I am sure, but it happens so often, that they sell replacements, should Yamaha not redesign it so that this common problem is solved, rather than "re-sell" a fix? Do you know what I mean? It is clear from the 1 missing piece, that the adhesive does NOT stick to the highly polished chrome coating. If I do decide to buy replacements, do you think I should just scuff up the area covered by the rubber with a dremel or is there a better way to adhere it? I am going to remove the other rubber pieces later, and who knows, maybe I will like the look of solid chrome. I am not sure if I will noticed the lower traction, but I cannot see my foot slipping off the brake pedal. What do you think I should do? Ask for a replacement, or just suck it up and buy the replacement rubbers and glue? Sonny
  18. While in Madill Oklahoma @ a gas stop on our way up to OKC a gentleman came up to me and was telling me about Yamaha having adjustable upper wind deflectors. They replace the clear plastic fixed deflectors attached to the bottom of the fairing on both sides. He said there in the new accessory catalog. I got on line and looked and did not see anything. Has anyone heard of these???
  19. I want to connect my CB and Garmin unit to the accessory plug located under seat of my 07 RSTD. Is there a harness that allows me to wire to my units and plug directly to the existing plug? chachi
