Is there such a thing as shelf-life for gear oil? I've had this 1 qt jug of this stuff since about 1998. Have used it in my last 3 bikes no problem ... is it still good or should I buy new?

Hey Don, I signed up for the other site over a year ago and just tried to get on it...but my "membershp" has expired. Oh well....I like it here much better anyway. But I looked at the "history page" and they say..... Later in 1997 Don Nelson of Texas (at the time), in a unrelated effort, started a discussion forum based on the Yamaha Venture Royale he had just purchased. The two websites continued to grow independently throughout 1997 into early 1998. In 1998, Jeff Cranfill, of North Carolina, was visiting these two sites that he frequented, looking for information about his Venture Royale when he had an idea...why not join Bob's webpage and Don's forum into a central gathering place for Venture owners? He presented the idea to the gentlemen, who, after a little prodding, agreed to join and become VentureNet, The history never says anything about a split or mentions VR.org So what's the REAL history there? Inquiring minds (ok...nosy minds) want to know!

This guy must have a great bike to have a VR from 1998. Maybe it's worth so much because it has MKI luggage. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=10682044&cat=144&lpid= Dave

A riding friend has a 1998 RSTD and the side stand lets the bike lean too much. It always has, he just never questioned or did anything about it. Are all the '98' TD's like this and will a newer RSV stand bolt on and work w/o problems ?

I'm not near the bike, actually 8 miles away, I need to what size tire goes on it. Gunboat has a couple for sale, hopefully the size is right. It's a 1998 Tour Deluxe

My riding buddie (who happens to be computer illiterate) has a 1998 Tour Deluxe with right at 100,000 miles. This past summer while on short rides around our county roads his bike would without warning QUIT. This happened more than several times but only once required trailering home. The one time I was with him when it happened we had just left a restaurant (ice cream) and had traveled less than a mile and it died. Within 3 minutes and without any trouble shooting it started and ran beautiful the rest of the way home. All we did was let it sit with the key off for a couple minutes and it started and away we went. Because of this problem and at the recommendation of our 'factory' mechanic, the carbs were taken off and rebuilt. Sure made a heck of a difference in performance. I'm not sure if the tank was taken off and cleaned or not. I do believe the filter was changed. Unfortunately the dog-gone thing won't mis-behave while in the care of our local Yamaha shop. Any theories or similar circumstances happen to any of you ??

yeah I know it's not a Venture. A friend of mine passed this along to me to see if I knew anyone who might be interested in something like this. 1998 Honda ST1100 with less than 19000 miles, new tires, shaft drive, cruise control, fairing, bike cover, hasn't been ridden in 1 1/2 yrs. Corbin leather seat with fold down back rest, new original seat, service manual. Batt. is down, (bad??), buy as is. Price several months ago was $3500. Don't know if that is negotiable or not. The bike is in Victoria, Tx. if interested let me know and I will shoot a P.M. with owners ph. no. Other than what is posted, I have not seen bike or know anything about it. Don H.
