I'm thinkin' it may be time to move on. I am seriously considering selling my 1985 VR (no class system, no cb) and moving into a V-Star (would I still be welcome here?) I would really like to see where everyone thinks I should set the asking price. I don't know everything, and I think the collective may know more than me. (ya think?) I will upload photos when I unwrap it from winter storage this week. In the meantime, I have attached a photo of my '85 in front of Carl's '85 from 2009 Ride-In. Thanks for your input. Thomas

Does somebody know the numbers for the TCI"s and their corresponding years. I did do a search but found only Condor's reply giving the Yamaha part number. What I am after are the numbers on the sticker which of course do not correspond to the part number. the sticker has a number like: TYPE TID14-17 26H-10 or TYPE TID14-28 41R-10 (I believe this is for an 1985) Thank you for the help

Okay so my buddies girlfriends ran into and/or over his bike, he gave it to me to fix and keep for myself. I have no idea where to even start with it. Its a 1985 (I think) venture. He didn't take very good care of it and when he put a new stereo in it he really rigged it and cut a lot of wires. Anyone know where I can find a good electrical plan for this bike for free? Any help would be greatly appreciated

What do you suppose a 1985 Yamaha Maxim 750 in good condition, with 16000 plus miles on it would sell for? A coworker has one that he is selling. He's hoping to get $1000 for it. He's had it for 12 years and has taken real good care of it. Always has been garaged. What do you guys think would be a fair price? Thanks, Bill

1985 Venture has 24,000 miles and started shifting and down shifting very hard..Clutch and linkage appear to be ok.. Changed oil thinking oil breakdown but still hard to shift. Does seem to shift a little easier when it is cold that when engine is hot seems to get more difficult shifting. Would like to to get thoughts on this before I dig into transmission. Has me baffled ..

Need some help here. I am ordering some fork seals and want to make sure of the model #. I can't find anything on motor and the ownership says "XVS" !! I am prity sure they mean Z not S. Anyway how can I tell between a "N" "TK" or what ever it could be. Or, does it mater at all since all 1985 XVZ12 Ventures are mostly the same. Your help is appreciated!

I recently posted a querie about a ignition condition I have on a 1985 XVZ12D Venture Royale. I have since concluded that it is the TCI Module that has failed. Therefore, I am in need of one. Is there anyone that may have a known good used one, or maybe an aftermarket or new one for sale? Please reply, pm or email if you might have something that would work... Any help would would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This gorgeous trike was at a show a couple of weeks ago , and i noticed that it had a Venture engine in it. When I looked at the plaque it said it was a 1985 Venture Royale. Yamaha should take some notes, .....but its missing the cassette player. Sorry about the pics, i had to use Debs Blackberry camera and it really doesnt show off the paint or the quality of the build, but you get the idea. Brian

I have a 1985 VR with the dreaded bad second gear. I want more power and a full functioning transmission. My idea is to replace my engine with one out of a Vmax. Has anyone made this swap?

Hello there Iam a new member here from Ontario Canada.Iam going tomorow night to look at a 1985 Venture 1300cc,it looks by the pics the guy sent me to be in beautiful shape with around 65,000miles on it.Just wondering if the rear suspention can be lowered a little?I ride a 2004 Suzuki Intruder L.C.1500cc now .And I had a 1985 1300cc 6cylinder Kawasaki Voyager a few years ago,but the seat I think on the Venture is around 31.2 inches. And it would be nice to get it down to 29.2 maybe .Is this a problem? are there any things I should be looking out for ?.I know the second gear has been changed, plus a new alternator the owner tells me! Thanks Stan

I removed this 1st Gen Rear Bumper and Trailer Hitch from my 1985 VR. It should fit 1983 thru 1985, not sure about 1986 up. The hitch attaches to the bumper and I do not think it can be used alone. The picture is before I removed it and it is very dirty. I will be cleaning it up and add more pictures when the outside air temp goes above 45 degrees F. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/GaryZ_photos/YamahaVenture01b.jpg Asking $250 or will consider trade for: * Black seat in good condition * Vmax cams in good condition * other?

Howdy folks, my name is Dave. I just purchased a 92' Venture Royale and am really liking this bike so far. I have been in the motorcycle industry most of my life. I started out in Myrtle Beach SC at a Suzuki and Honda dealer in 1977. I was stationed there in the military for ten years and worked during the days at the local motorcycle shops part time. I raced motocross on Suzuki's and hondas til about 1985. Then I started Drag racing on a 1985 Fz750 and a 1985 V-max. I continued racing til 1995 riding everything from street to progas and top gas turbo funnybikes. My wife put an end to my racing career when my friend Elmer Trett got killed on his Top fueler. I guess it was time to quit anyway. I look forward to meeting some fellow enthusiest in the Yamaha world. I have had many different bikes through the years. I currently have The Venture, 1983 Yamaha 650 turbo, 1984 kawasaki KZ1100, 1982 Suzuki gs650, 1982 Honda Cb650 Nighthawk, 1984 XL250,and a Zuma. I just love old bikes. Good thing I am a mechanic! Most of the bikes just sit in the garage. We have a working horse farm and the horses seem to take up most of our free time but since I got the Venture I have kinda got the bug to start riding more. If any of you are in my neck of the woods don't hesitate to come by and set a spell........Dave

I ran across this while surfing. http://www.govdeals.com/eas/itmDisplay.cfm?itemID=11&acctID=1589 Ad says 1984 but it sure looks newer than a 1985. I didn't know they made Venture police bikes.
