Peder_y2k Posted May 16, 2013 #2 Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) Likely the drive shaft gear where it slips into the coupler gear is stripped using spline type teeth. The shaft is likely stripped, and the coupler is badly worn. This is located at the final drive connection to the swing arm containing the shaft. Common wear point for the early 1200's. Easy replacement when you finally get the two parts. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA '83,88 Edited May 17, 2013 by Peder_y2k spelling

Squidley Posted May 17, 2013 #4 Posted May 17, 2013 James, If you get that rear wheel off and find it is the hub splines, PM me, I have a good hub here in Texas
Marcarl Posted May 17, 2013 #5 Posted May 17, 2013 James, If you get that rear wheel off and find it is the hub splines, PM me, I have a good hub here in Texas I would suggest the rear wheel splines as well. Make sure you use the right grease for this application, most greases will whip off of there in 50 to 100 miles.
icebrrg3rd Posted May 17, 2013 #6 Posted May 17, 2013 This is what my drive shaft gear looked like. The red is what is missing off the teeth. Yours probably is worse as I was still riding with mine. -Andrew
nu2this Posted May 20, 2013 Author #7 Posted May 20, 2013 Ok so I messed up and now have two post going it is not the driveshaft all movement and splines are good however when I pull the clutch in it seemed to not have the proper effects pulling the clutch. In while in 1st did not disengage the gear could this me a slave cylinder issue?
Peder_y2k Posted May 20, 2013 #8 Posted May 20, 2013 Could be the slave cylinder, but first check the fluid level in the master cylinder at the lever. Also bleed the clutch hydraulic fluid system as trapped air will adversely affect clutch action. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA '83,88
