Trader Posted September 12, 2013 #1 Posted September 12, 2013 I purchased these LED bulbs on Ebay. total cost was about $20 for 4 after shipping. Don't waste your money! There is so little difference in brightness between the running light and the brake light they are totally useless and downright dangerous! [ame=http://www.ebay.ca/itm/360717499368?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.ca%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D360717499368%26_rdc%3D1]4X T25 BAY15D 1157 Pure White 60 SMD LED Tail Stop Brake Signal Light Lamp Bulb | eBay[/ame]
Flyinfool Posted September 12, 2013 #2 Posted September 12, 2013 The LED tail lights that I got from Super Bright LEDs were $25 each but they are way brighter than the stock incandescents with a very significant difference in brightness between brake and tail. Those eBay LEDs are white, You do NOT want white LEDs, you should always match the led color to the lens color. But I must agree with you, there are a lot of bad LED lights out there. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.
Bob Myers Posted September 12, 2013 #3 Posted September 12, 2013 Those eBay LEDs are white, You do NOT want white LEDs, you should always match the led color to the lens color. I have never heard that before, I can see why you wouldn't want white bulbs in a red lens, but why red bulbs in a red lens?
Flyinfool Posted September 12, 2013 #4 Posted September 12, 2013 When you have a white lite source behind a red lens, the lens will filter out everything but the red light. All of the rest of the light is wasted energy. With an LED light source, they are usually rated in mcd. If you take a red LED at 1000 mcd and a white LED at 1000 mcd they are the same brightness. But when you put them behind a red lens, all of the light from the red LED will go thru the red lens and still be visible light. BUT the white LED behind that red lens will have all of the spectrum other than the red filtered out. The white LED will look very dim behind that red lens. This holds true for any color of lens, to get maximum light out of the lens the light source should match the lens color. For reference http://www.superbrightleds.com/cb/car.lens_color.html
Bob Myers Posted September 12, 2013 #5 Posted September 12, 2013 That is interesting concept, I too have a bag full of those lamps, just like the OP bought, and some he didn't buy too! Evrytime I think about saving money on some cut rate thing I pull one out of the bag and apply 12 volts to it just to remind me I waste too much money on ebay.

bongobobny Posted September 12, 2013 #7 Posted September 12, 2013 Jeff is correct with his statement...
Trader Posted September 12, 2013 Author #8 Posted September 12, 2013 I'll take your word for it and order red LED next time....but brightness wasn't the problem as much as the lack of difference when the brakes were on. Only very slightly brighter...therefore not really noticeably different Not a good thing when you are trying to tell somebody behind you to WHOA!!!!!.
JohnT Posted September 12, 2013 #9 Posted September 12, 2013 Flyin' is right. If anyone noticed the led's in my trunk light at Pioneer the color choice is more than obvious. I have 5 red strips and one white strip. I f'd one red strip up and had to use a white strip in it's place. The difference is red and pale washed out yellow/white.
IronMike Posted September 13, 2013 #10 Posted September 13, 2013 Well that aint bad, I bought the full and compkete turn signal set from custom dynamics. Another member clues me in that it is not full and complete for our bikes its a generic kit they wanted me to order another $85 of stuff to make it work but warns not to use the 4 ways. And the equilizer will get hot. I said na. Returned it unopened and the refunded me an amout minus $50 restocking fee and $8 shipping. So it cost me over $75 after I shipped it back unopened to look at it. Never do business with custom dynamics. To check what I am saying click complete turn signal kits then venture. It says ready to go nothing else needed. RIP OFFS!
bongobobny Posted September 13, 2013 #11 Posted September 13, 2013 Thanks for sharing that expensive lesson Mike...
