Other PGR members here I am sure. I am looking into mounting the 3 foot x 5 foot flag to my bike for missions. I want to make the mount and the pole myself and any and all help would be appreciated. I have saw such things in some other sites (Harley) and can not get to the pics and other info with out becoming a member first. Not much on the Ky PGR site either. So far I have come up with very little. Maybe a clothes rod holder for the pole. So your help would be nice. I love pics please. I have searched for hours and many locations on the net and have not gotten any real good info. So I decided to post here and see what others here have done with our bikes. Thank you in advance.

I now build these myself. Go here www.jandjflagmounts.com

PS; I have come to the conclusion that if someone could come up with a universal type mount, then it would help others. I have decided to build my own and maybe some for others. I can sell a few and save a little gas money for the missions. The Patriot Guard Riders is becoming more and more popular, growing every day.

purchase a venturedad hitch and mount your flag pole to a reciever hole and ride like the wind man!!

Thanks, but I would rather mount to the luggage rack behind the sissy bar or mount to the fender bolts maybe. I really do not want to use the trailer hitch method.

You are right. I received a phone call from member W.Steve Wells and he also said the same thing. So I have had a change of mind thought here and with all the stress involved with the flag attachment and also you and Steve's Wells good advice, I am now looking for a hitch as cheap as I can possibly get one. So if anyone has a hitch lying around to fit my bike, please send /PM me with info.

I made this from some angle plate with punched holes that I bought at a home improvement store (Menard's), a 1 7/8" trailer tongue hitch (Harbor Freight), and a flag mount from Home Depot. I had to cut and fit, some trial and error, but it works great. I'll have to make up a flag staff to replace the wooden flag pole, it's not strong enough for highway speeds. One strap piece goes under the hitch tongue with a bolt through each end to clamp it down, holds it in place along with the ball mount. This is on my GoldWing, but I think it'll work on any hitch.

V7Goose here did a good job with a custom flag mount that LOOKS like it will hold up to highway driving....

I guess I am doing something wrong when I am doing a search here Long Tall. Because I did try and tried again and did not find the one from Goose. How did you find this and what wording did you use? Thank you very much for another idea.

This is what I did, I have never had any trouble with it.

Thanks 1 - UP . I have one of those lights from Wally World on my hitch for my Toyota Rav4. Those lights work great and I really like what you did to mount the flag holder. Thanks for your time and the pictures. Pictures sometimes say more than a thousand words.

The hitch is from HF, and the light is from Wal Mart. The pipe and flange is from Lowes. The flag staft is a dowel rod. I bolted the flange to the hitch and also used a U bolt. When bolting to the hitch you will have to cut the plastic on the light so it will slide into the hitch around the nuts from the bolts. I stained the dowel rod and varnished it several times. Looks good standing in a line of flags. I used an bicycle intertube to cover the lower end of the flag staft so it would not get scratched up from the pipe. Not only that, it helps to hold on to the staft. I then got some vinyl to cover the flag, sewed it up and sewed some reflective tape on it. I do not fly the flag while on the Hyway. Sorry about not explaining this before.

A bit of advice....Whatever you come up with for a flag holder make sure it is very sturdy! Many State laws will hold YOU responsible if parts or the Flag come off and create a problem for any other motorist....and your Insurance may NOT cover that type of incident!

Also....A good Rule to follow is NEVER fly your flag if you are going at a speed faster than 40mph....the Flag will NOT hold up well at speed higher than that. The Patriot Guard Mission Ride Captain will generally indicate (at the pre-Mission briefing) whether Flags are to be flown dependent upon the Mission route.

Thank you Boomer. Good advise, and I must learn the ropes for the PGR. I am a new member. Thank you all very much. I am still looking for a hitch for my bike. Not chrome or expensive, just a painted black hitch.

Didn't search for it....When I first came to the site a few years ago, I looked at this Tech "read only" section to see if there was something I needed to know as a RSV owner...

Thanks to everyone. I just came from the PGR main site. I have not been a member for very long and really had not checked out all the PGR site info. I spend most of my computer time here at this site and e-mails and e-bay. So on the main PGR site I have found plenty of good ideas and not so many pictures, but still a lot of good information from here and PGR.

I welded up a bracket that sandwiches between the ball and stinger for my hitch. The tube has a nut welded into the bottom that my fiberglass flagpole screws into. I use 2 turnbuckles a caribiner (sp) and tarp clamp to attach the pole to the helmet locks. I have had this setup up to 70 mph with no problem, finding a flag that won't shred at the ends at that speed is another problem I haven't solved yet.

I plan to weld 2 more pipes on the bracket, one on each side splayed to the side to hold 2 more flags. Once that's done I'll get it chromed.

From some of these pics it looks like the turn signals and/or brake lights are partially blocked. But I can see using a mount from Mel or 1-UP's pics and add that to the top of a trailer tongue.

That hasn't been a problem so far. Most times I am using the flag it's during a PGR escort mission at fairly low speeds. Any thing over 8 MPH and the flag stands straight out so the brake light is un-obstructed. Never had a complaint from another rider about not seeing the brake light.

Simply entering "flag mount" (with the quotes) in the search will find plenty of information.
