I have replaced almost every bulb in my '84 with LED's from this source. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2F1157.htm All the marker and running lights I use are the wedge type bulb as well as the dash lights. These are just plug and play with no modifications. I have not done the brake and turn signals yet as I'm adding a hitch and still playing with what to do with a trailer. Brake light will be done this winter but they will require a load resistor for each bulb. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Ftail-brake-turn.html%23flasher As far as what color bulbs to use, buy the same color as the lens. White or colors are filtered out using a different color lens. Take at look around this site. It is extensive and will provide just about any bulb you need. Bulbs are available in different intensitys so you can go mild or bright depending on what you buy. Each bulb section has a spec sheet for the bulb you are looking at with measurements to make sure it will fit within the space provided. I've had mine for three years with no failures on 26 bulbs. Great support from the company also. Mike

Smart Phone instead of GPS???
Snaggletooth replied to maineventurerider's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I was reading the other day about ten items that will probably not exist within the next ten years. The stand alone GPS was at the top of the list. With the developements in the Smartphones the need for a dedicated GPS system will be greatly reduced and more than likely eliminate the need for it all together. But from what I understand, currerent cell phone GPS apps are based on cell tower locations, and not satellite fed info. That would cause some issues with accuracy with current methods. But I'm sure there will be considerable improvements in the next few years. But what do I know. I still carry a flip phone. Mike- 19 replies

Hi ya Kevin! I had to take the shot, as cheap as it was. Can't be to critical. First time I took my daughter to a petty zoo she was petting a young calf and kept saying, "nice puppy, big puppy." I starter getting her out of the house more after that. Mike -

Radiator Problem
Snaggletooth replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had some issues with my '84 a couple years ago. I pulled the radiator and took it to a local radiator shop to have checked. Pressure tested fine and found no leaks. The service manager was impressed with the quality of the thing. He was more impressed that it came off a 25 year old motorcycle. I had him give it a dip just for the heck of it and put it back on. Been fine ever since. My problem turned out to be a flaw in the upper hose that was spraying coolant straight through the core making it look like a failure in the radiator. So with that info I'd say it would be fine and worth it to have it repaired. But like Dingy said there are a lot of used ones out there for fair prices. That would be the less expensive way out. -
What I had read about the GW units used in Japan was they were developed for get a tow vehicle through the massive traffic congestion there quickly. Once there they were only used for removal of a vehicle blocking a traffic lane and get it off to the side of the road. Not used for any distance. Seemed to have worked well for them.

We have a fella here in Omaha that was a young business man about 35 years ago. He had a couple of start up deals going on and one of them hit it HUGE! Made him a very weathy man. Now, he was one of he guys that would drink beer and burp with the rest of us and he never changed after making it big. Still a fun loving guy and generous as could be. He had a house built on the biggest hill in the most expensive part of the city. Huge castle like home that took up an entire block. Very private, full security and just fantastic to visit there. But he had a sense of humor his neighbors did not enjoy. He went and applied for a permit to build a heliport on his propery. The neighbors, the city council and everybody was throwing fits. They fought it in court, protest letters and just would not quit. We asked him one day what kind of chopper he was getting and he just laughed it off. Never wanted one and had no plans for getting one. He was just having fun with the neighbors. I wish I had enough money to tease the neigbors like that. Got a couple that need to see a Cobra hanging over the house.

This one shows the upgrade parts needed, but no how-to on it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=61890&highlight=shifter+pins Maybe more later. Search "shifter pins" in the 1st gen tech talk section. There are several post there. -
I don't mind the voice so much but it sounds like my ex-wife. Maybe I should have given her the meds.

Grab a beverage, there ain't no easy way, or short one to explain my day. Voices in your head are good. Yes they are! I woke up this morning and had things to get done, but I had this lil voice in my head telling me to just stay home. Every time I'd think I need to run here or there I'd get this "JUST STAY HOME" thing bugging me. I kept busy around the place and got some stuff done in the basement and did some cleaning. It was progress anyway. But, I had to stop in on a couple of my clients stores to check displays. So as it was pretty nice out I took the bike as I usually do. I didn't get three blocks from my house and hit the red light at my first turn. I was several cars back so I had to wait for a chance to turn after the green turn arrow went off and oncoming traffic went through. I had what looked like a clear shot after that and started my left turn. A car coming from my right side ran his red light at about 40 mph and missed me as I slammed to stop. Not easy in the middle of a turn and with that danged voice yelling "I told you to stay home!" I didn't know it yet but I should have gone home. I was only three blocks away. I gathered myself and headed on down the road to Interstate 80 and got on East bound headed for Iowa. Normally a 15 mile ride to the first stop. The local road crews have been hard at work again doing resurfacing and they had a new stretch about 100 yards long where they had been grinding the surface again. I hate that stuff because they suck at it here. Deep and wobbly grooves and it can take a bit to keep it rolling straight through it. Checked my mirrors and dropped my speed a bit and rolled into it. I checked the mirrors again and another bike was coming up fast on my tail. I still doing 60 and he's gaining. I try to move to the outside a bit and I look again and he's right there against my right saddlebag . I mean less than a foot away. I hit the end of the rough stuff and jazzed it hard and pulled away form him. He did not try to pass me again. He must have known how I felt about him at that point. And that danged voice was rattling on and on and on. OH! Shut up! So I'm making progress, about half way to my first stop. Now there is another section of construction at the 13 St. Exit. I'm in my left through lane and nobody on my six. Cool. I have one car in front of me on my right doing about 55. Seems to be doing ok so I move to pass. About the time I get even with her rear bumper I see the left turn signal come on and I get one blink and she's moving into my lane. Jeesh! I hit the brakes and the horn and she swerves back into her lane and slows down. Ok, get around this one. I start to pass again and she swerves right back against me. I'm braking and moving to the breakdown lane and the same time and she just rolls on. I caught back up to her in about a 1/2 mile ahead and pulled up on her right side. Yep, what I figured. Texting! And the voice is saying "I told ya so." Yeah, yeah....I'm riding. Leave me alone. Ah ha! My exit. A couple hundred yards and I'm good. So I make it to the parking lot and I stop at the cross walk in front of Sam's to let the busy shoppers roll back to their cages with their hard won supplies. Got a parking spot in my sights and I'm thrilled to be there. I made it. Now I'm sitting there with the bike in 1st and waiting for a clear shot. All of a sudden I'm shooting forward. Kind of thrown against my backrest and going ahead. I thought I'd slipped off the clutch lever but my hands were still on the grips. Only went a few feet but is was a bit of a surprise. Totally unplanned! I looked in the mirrors and there was nothing there, nutttin, nobody, nada. Very odd. I threw down the kickstand and leaned it over to get off and there were people running towards me. What the heck! I get off and turn around and there was the reason for my rear end jolt. A frigging scooter. A lil bitty scooter. And a lil old codger laying next to it. He had a couple of decades on me so I'll call lil and old. And dumb. No helmet, no gloves and a T shirt. At least he didn't have sandals on. He's bellowing about his wrist being broke and his knee is bleeding. He's being a PITA about his "bike" and why I had stopped at the cross walk. I'd been there of about a minute so he had time to see me for sure. One of the folks that came over called for the EMT's and the police. They actually showed up in pretty good time for a parking lot accident. Two of the witnesses told me and the LEO that the codger had come out of a parking lane and never slowed down while turning in behind me. He was dragging both his feet on the ground the whole time. An experienced rider, I think not. I wandered over to the EMT's as they were looking at him. Nothing broken and just a scraped knee. He's gonna live. The scooter, probably not. Those things aren't made very well. I looked at him and said, "You are the reason I was supposed to stay home today." The voice said "That's telling him." Ah shut up! The last thing I heard out of the lil voice was "I told ya so! You never listen to me!" So looking over my bike I had a smudge on the rear light bar. Nuttin bent, broken or damaged. Almost a 900 lb bike VS scooter= I win. Ya know, I don't wanna sound like a wussy but I took a different way home. Long way around, mostly side streets. Spidey Sense was on full blast. I'm taking the cage to work tomorrow. 45's in the glove box. Bring 'em on! I'm proud. I survived my first ever motorcycle accident involving another vehicle. Alive, well and looking for the meds to deal with the lil voice. Mike

I'd be holding Hess Express fully responsible for damage and injury. They do have a responsiblity for the safey of the public and their customers. I'm not a sue happy person at all but I'm tired of companies ignoring the issues on their property. I've been seeing trends lately in the retail field that tick me off. Remember hearing "Clean up in isle seven" once in a while over a PA system? Getting to be thing of the past. Companies no longer want an announcement made over a public system. Granted they are protecting themselves from the settlement chasers that will run over and "slip" in the puddle but it also slows down the time for removing the hazard. But then again, some companies just don't care and "deniabily" is a favorite word with them. Hope she heals well and quickly. Mike

Have you ever used a program to wipe off the crud that gets left on your system after visting web sites? Webroot Software has Window Washer. Nice lil program for pretty reasonable money. I've been using that since '97 along with Norton Internet Security. Washer knocks out anywhere from 500kb to 10mb everytime I run it and that is several times a day. That stuff adds up and slows you down also. It wiped about 450mb off my duaghters unit to when I ran it on there. -

I was looking at my eBay records last night. Yikes! I have made 89 purchases off eBay and 75 of them were for my bike. Maybe a few of those were for other guys bikes I work on but pretty much all mine. Yep, there used to be a LOT of good stuff on there for really cheap to fair prices. Not so much anymore but every now and then...... Bingo! Some of my best buys were for stuff that was was listed incorrectly. Like a backrest for my '84 on a BIN for $40.00 listed as a Yamaha Vesta. Thing looked like new when I got it. Or the wiring harness that no one bid on for .99 cents that came with about every every electronic component still plugged into it, including the TCI! Or the rear light bar that I have on mine now for $75.00 with free shipping. (I'll bet the seller regreted that one. LOL!) Always watching. It's out there. You just got to wait for it. -

No whiz kid here but try this. Worked on my daughters desk top. At reboot, enter into the "Safe Mode". Try to run your security program from there, If not, try to update on-line any security software you have if possible and run a complete scan. I took 8 hours for her system just to download the update to her security program, (which she had not done in 2 years). Then another 3 hours to install it and another 1 1/2 to run the scan. Man you would not believe the garbage that was in there. Hundreds of things that should not have been there and all of them were active when the 'puter was running. Once I got that cleaned out I was able to reboot and get it fired back up normally. It was a huge change. Not like new but danged close. Booted much faster, under a minute, and every program ran at normal speed again. Got her educated on how to do backups, and set her up with a stack of CD's to move her pics and music to. A couple of new jumpdrives for the take along stuff. I made two backups of her operating system for myself to save myself some time if it happend again. (I hope not) I hope a someone can come up with something easier and faster for you. I lost better than 18 hours saving hers. Hope you get it fixed. I've run Norton on my desk top since it was new and upgrade it every year. Never have any problems like she ran into. Mike -

Yep they are. In the last 3 years I found one (1) bracket for sale and it looked like it had been buried for years. But ya need two anyway. I ran into these last week on a BIN. Not bad. $14.95 I think it was for the pair. Love your brackets Brad but I got to try these out. Close Dan but you're a lil off. (but everybody already knows that. ) But now that you mention it, I saw one of those listed tonight if you're looking. I saw a used lighted trunk trim the other had but it looked a lil rough so I passed. Thought it would be nice to find a NOS one someday. When I hit eBay today there was a listing for TWO of them NOS. BIN! $20.00! The fuel cover tank rack got away. Turned into a sniper match and got outbid by a buck bid in the last 2 seconds. Dang! Now I gotta find some Barons grills for the light trim to match the rest of mine. Been a good week at the bay. -
Sometimes you find them. Once in a while you can even get yours hands on them. This week was pretty good. Found a few things I've been looking for over the last few years and didn't go broke getting them. Only one slipped though my fingers. Drat. But how often do you find these items? In good or NOS condtion?

Kinda sad. But if he has a good reason....... Trying to think of one for doing that to a Max. Got nuttin here......
