    My friends call me Sparky and it's not in an affectionate way. I've heard my buddies ask each other "Is he welding or wiring over there?" The first thing I make sure I have handy on any project is the fire putterouter thingy.

    When I did my upgrade on the '84 I was proud of three things. 1. It didn't look too bad. 2. I didn't start a fire. 3. It worked. But dang Kevin, you got the touch. Well thought out and very nicely done. Mike

    I bought the 4' duals at Wally World. They are the "Cold Start" model. I changed from the T12 to the Daylight F32T8 bulbs in all the housings and get a great light from them I have two sets on each side of the garage and two more sets over the work bench. They fire right up in the coldest temps all winter with no delay. Anyway, works for me. But if you're looking for a LOT of lights checking Craigslist is a good idea. I see a lot of stripped out fixures with the 4 light set up in my area all the time. Worth checking out. Mike

    Yep.....that's the ticket! Been doing it like that since I figured out the trick. Just to note that "pushing" with the right leg is a bit of an understatement. As you and I are about the same size you will find that if you "stand" on the foot pad it will almost pop up by itself. I have to put very little effort into lifting the bike. Mike

    It's more current that most. It listed my newest neighbors and they only moved in a couple months ago. And it shows the roof repairs done this summer to my place.

    Well dang Kevin! That would be great. Been looking to add that on since I bought the bike back in what? ...... 2007? Be happy to work something out with ya. I'll PM ya later when I find a pic of one of these to make sure we are talking about the same piece. Mike

    Nope. Once upon a time there was a chrome trim piece that ran under the lower edge of the upper fairing. A "U" shape that ran around the sides and front like a mini air dam. I've only seen three on eBay over the last few years and and the only one I could afford was rusted so bad it was sad. I had a pic of around here somewhere of one. I'll see if I can find it.     I've been watching those all week. Been pretty low and I was going to bid on them this morning before I left for work. They were up to $72.00 at 4:30 AM. Oh well..... Too rich for my pocket. They were going to need some repair work done anyway. Inside tabs were broken off. Now back to looking for that chrome lower trim for the upper fairing. Mike

    Yep.....been there. Bought mine after original owner passed away and 9 years later his son decided to let it go. Started out naked and lots of parts in boxes and ended up like this pic. If it wasn't for eBay (The Junkyard of the Future) I'd still have money. Mike

    Yep on the local locksmith and I can usually find a blank to match at Westlake and Ace hardware stores and make them there for a couple bucks. We have a member here around somewhere that can do the factory dupilcates with the molded heads to but his name slips my mind at the moment. I found a guy a few years ago that I could give him the code stamped on the key and he could make a perfect copy of the OEM key. Every key he made for me worked in every lock. I think I paid about $15.00 for 3 OEM standard keys. Not bad. Mike

    The digital gauge will make you wonder about the OEM analog in the dash. There is a bit of difference in the readings. I had an off day a year or so ago and was a ways from home when I noticed the OEM gauge was hair lower than usual. I flipped on the digital and it was showing 13.5 and dropping fast. I headed for home quick and when I stopped in the drive to open the door I saw smoke rolling out from under the bike. About where the R/R was mounted. Another story there but if I hadn't noticed the reading then seen the actual number on the digital I might have got myself stranded. And yep, it DID have the mechanical anti-dives. Did away with them when I polished the fork lowers. Earl, skydoc_17 had just started offering his block off plates so I grabbed a set. Once you install a set of Progressive springs the anti-dives really don't account for much. Mike

    Well, ya got a taste of the inner workings on the old girl. Sounds like you got it licked. The only weak spots for leakage is the rubber grommet for the stator wires to pass though the cover and that danged crush washer on the 6 o'clock bolt on the seconday cover. If ya got them right you got it made. I did the upgrade stator from Buckeye Performance (very similar) a few years ago and they stated around 20% increase in output from the OEM. That's easy to belive. Great charge now at a constant 14.4 just above idle and never drops below 13.2 stopped with all the lights on including those 1157's on the brakes. But I will add that I also did the upgrade to the Shindegen R/R this last year. If you find the need to replace your current R/R go with the Shindengen unit. The new technology is a huge plus. I can run under a full load and with the drivers on and it stays at no lower that 14.2. The first pic was with the OEM stator and R/R at idle. The second is the upgrades at about 1500 RPM. Mike

    I think what Gary just posted should help you out a bit. I went nuts when I got my '84 as the PO had disassembled the proportioning valve and then it went back together wrong. Brakes were a PITA the way it was. I was a member on the Venturers site at the time and one of the guys actually tore down his valve so we could figure it out. I had a bunch of posts and pics there at the time. I was digging though my old pics when Gary posted his pics. They appear to be in the correct order of assembly. There is no breakdown of the parts available in the parts or service manuals or online and no kits either. They were never meant to be serviced or taken apart by Yammy. Got mine back together and it's been working fine for years now. Good luck. Mike

    The DEKA AGM is well worth the money I spent on it over 3 years ago. It was like $87.00 I think shipped to my door. Never had a tender on it, never had any voltage drop over a few tenths of a volt. It shows 12.8 volts on the digital meter EVERY time I hit the switch. It will sit on the shelf for a few months during the winter with no tender and I can drop it back in and the bike cranks like it did when I took it out in the fall. I've spent over $120.00 for new name brand L/A's and barely get two seasons out of them (using tenders) before replacing them. Something for you to look into. You won't regret it. Mike

    When I keep mine stored for the winter or a place unknown to me I just use the fork lock and a Bull Dog rotor lock on the front. You would have to be real determined and built like a herd of gorillas to drag that old girl away. Don't give it a lot of thought as far as the bike. A few small items have wandered off when the bike was parked in parking lots. A movement sensor system with a audio alarm or one of the pager systems might help with that. Mike
