  1. Pretty tough to. Had mine on for a couple years before I swapped out to the 4 1/2" housings. Like yammer said, check the Depot, Menards or Lowes. Less than $3.00 each. Knocked mine down to 35w just to save on some drain. Mike
  2. 50! We start working on our tans at 50! Ain't that right Rosie.
  3. It was decently warm yesterday morning when I left for work. Considered taking the bike for the day but I took the cage instead. By the time I got off work it was starting to snow. Heavy, wet snow. On the way home I had the wipers going full speed and I could barey see a 100 feet ahead. Got into the driveway and got out to open the door and by the time I got back in the car it was covered. It was coming down that fast and heavy. Went inside for a bit to put things away and headed back out the garage. Danged sun was out and the snow was melting off faster than it came down. I love the seasonal changes here in Nebraska. Just not every half hour. NEBRASKA .... WHERE WE KEEP OUR SWIMSUITS IN THE POCKETS OF OUR PARKAS!
  4. Ya know Gary ..... If they had never invented digital cameras how would you ever get out of the darkroom and find time to hang here and work on your bike?
  5. Thanks for the offer but I'm cool on parts. That's the thing about having done several sets.... left overs. When I'm done with this set I'll have two working set ups. The original '84's with stock brakes and the finished '87's with the R1 upgrade. Not to mention both sets fully polished. I'm still sticking with losing one of the spacers. Like in Dingys #10 pic, use the cupped washer with the PVC ONLY. The 1 1/2 inches is WAY to much. You're asking for a fight you may not win. Mike
  6. Gene Pool? In my family it was more like a puddle. Learned early to go in feet first. Diving in causes brain damage. Living proof.
  7. First rebuild? Who ya talking to KIC? This is my forth set. Did two on the '84 forks and started on a set of '87's for my R1 upgrade but gave up after finding SO MUCH internal damage by the PO. Just got another set of '87's a while back and starting on polishing them up before this rebuild. That top cup with the o-ring appears to do nothing more than center that long OEM steel spacer inside the upper tube. You wanna talk about screwed up stuff I could tell ya about some of the cobble jobs I have picked up off fleaBay. Water pipe spacers two different sizes, lock washers on the oil locks, chisel goughs where the seal was cut out of the tubes, missing or wrong rebound springs, ah heck. Some creative minds out there and some are downright dangerous with tools. These new '87's I got had ALL the wave washers on one side and nuttin on the other. Haven't even got the oil locks out yet of these. Wedged in pretty tight. That's tonights project. Heat gun and some dry ice to shock 'em out. Maybe. You my friend had it easy. It could have been a lot worse. But check those measurments and see how close that spacer comes to the top. Mike
  8. KIC, Just guessing here as I'm just getting started on my '87 fork rebuild and haven't checked the Progressives fit in it yet but.... Using both the PVC spacer AND the top cup off the old top steel spacer looks like it is doubling the preload. All you really need is the flanged washer on top of the spring and the spacer on top of that. It should be close to even with the top of the fork. As you thread the top cap in it will compress the spring about 3/4 of an inch as it goes in. The top cup (with the o-ring) might even be enough to fit right instead of the PVC. It looks to be about the same size. See how that lines up. Mike
  9. Shotgun? Good Lord that makes a mess out of dinner! Where I grew up the area was nothing but Oak and Walnut trees and very few neighbors close by. Except for the squirrels. Lots of squirrels. My dad taught me how to shoot with a .22 rifle and well .... lil moving targets. His idea of a fun time was shooting the Walnuts right out of the lil sticky fingers while they were settling in for a snack just to wind them up. Once he had their attention he's pop 'em in the head. He hated a body shot. Too much damage. He expected the same from me. Never knew what a scope was until years later. Once the area started to develope and people started to complain about the gun fire, even with the generous offer of free squirrel meat, he changed tactics and bought me a bow. Much quieter. Squirrel-ka-bob! So if you ever drove past a home and saw a young boy in tree with a rifle .... we've met. Back then nobody called the cops. Today...... there would be S.W.A.T. unit on the surrounding roof tops. All I can say in my defense is I never shot myself. Dad would have kicked my butt for that. Make an effort to try something exciting. Climb a Walnut tree with a bow over your shoulder and a handful of arrows. I grew up alright. I think. And to answer the question of why go up the tree in the first place......... Sometimes they didn't fall out. Mike
  10. I have Markland hitch for mine still hanging in my shop. Like you .. no wagon to pull yet either. My neighbor asked me about it one day and I told him it was a HD towing package. Being a HUGE American Iron Guy he was all grins a giggles thinking that I was going to install a HD part my bike until I explained it was NOT a HD part, it was for towing them. He don't talk to me much any more. He can call me if he needs me. I have a strap.
  11. What? You never chased a squirrel?
  12. Dang! You even have the chrome chin on there. Cool. Lookin' good.
  13. You got mad skills there my friend. Very nice. Mike
  14. I hear ya. My last dishwasher and I parted company years ago. Had to go out and buy one of those electric ones myself. I get along with this one MUCH better. And people wonder why I'm still single.
  15. Hi Steve, Is most the modification done the body fiberglass or ABS? Just curisous? Mike
  16. Dishwasher? You must be single eh? Opps.... better run for cover now.
  17. Sadly no it's not. I think it belongs to a member here though. Very well done and a lot of effort went into the project. It is slick no doubt about it. Beyond my talents. Mike
  18. I'm just gonna throw this in here as I have had a couple situations in the past that caused me to change the way I use my half cover. If you're on a 2nd gen I wouldn't worry about it. But on my 1st gen, I use a half cover almost daily while I'm parked at work. Keep the moisture and sun off it. I have always parked the bike there on the center stand. I've had a couple of times when the wind came up from the wrong direction and the cover puffed up like a parachute and got the bike to rocking pretty good. Now to look out a window and see that heavy old girl rocking like that is disturbing. If I park it on the side stand it don't do it at all. I'll stick with the three point landing from now on. Never seen an issue where I worried about the wind screen but I've had it pull hard enough to bend my mirrors around a bit. Mike
  19. Jeff, seriously...... have you considered a trailer with a generator?
  20. Been playing with making a form to build a rack cover that would look something like the one on this bike by heat shaping a single sheet of ABS for the body of it. Once I get the seams figured out and a clean way to mount it it might look alright. Scraped a few trial pieces so far. Only been playing with the idea for couple years. But I got stacks of ABS sheets so I can keep melting stuff for a while. Don't hold your breath. Mike
  21. Next to the Microwave right? Hey! Wait a minute......... Didn't all this start with a stator upgrade? Ya gonna need more power buddy!
  22. Fine ..... ya made me look again. Right under the riser. You going to feel comfortable now with all this available data? Mike
  23. Gary, You looking for something flat that would only cover the mounting rack or something curved that would extend up and follow the line of the seat? Mike
  24. This write up is on the BikeMeter site where I got my Datel meter from. Might be helpful. http://www.bikemeters.com/cgi-bin/webshop.cgi?config=ent-datel&uid=lmnkbdjn132995195014&command=link--mirrorinstallation.htm Mike
  25. If I ever get tired of mine the way it is it may very well end up looking something like these B&W shots. Some others have done some nice tricks to cleaning up the lines to. I like the blue one a lot, and I got nuttin' to say about the orange thing. Just throwing pics out there for ya. Mike
