  1. That was one of my concerns when I bought my DEKA AGM from Bohannon Battery back in '09. I have a battey charger that cuts down the charge level from the low setting (2a) when fully charged but had just purchased a Battery Tender Jr. the year before and was concerned about using it on the AGM. I spoke with Joshua at Bohannon about it and he said the Tender Jr. wll work fine for keeping the battery topped off after a full charge for long term storage, but not for charging a discharged battery. The Tender Jr. does shut off, float, when fully charged. Now the deal is I can't say how well the Tender Jr. works on an AGM because I have never found a need for it. I had wired up the quik-disconnect harness to it when I installed it and never plugged it in. Even when I stored the battery inside of the first couple winters it did not discharge enough, only from 12.8 to 12.6, over the winter to require any charge maintance. Can't beat that. Mike
  2. YEA!!! Now for the microwave!
  3. Oh heck yes!! Hit the Amish Family Style places!! That is if you don't mind sharing a table with 50 other people and getting to know most of them. You can't leave hungry or without some new friends. Mike
  4. Oh and hey, I'm gonna ask...... What's the story about the Bakersfield Dirt? Seems like it's got some miles on it.
  5. Man I've seen this thread before when it was still fresh. Made me look. Next month it will be 5 years here. Geesh. I keep saying "did that a couple years ago" or "Right after I bought the bike", but it's a kick I've had the old girl for over five years now. I've only had one other bike for longer than that and never stayed with a forum that long. This place, and the members here have been an experience. The depressing part is in 5 years I've never made to a single rally, MD, or M&E. That needs to change. Mike
  6. The Westboro crowd has not received much support around here. Once some of the protesters got pepper sprayed by a local man as they stood along the street. Another time they found many of their car tires flat where they had parked and several local shops failed to respond to make repairs. The one time they showed up here to celebrate, as a hero to them, a gunman who had opended fire in a local shopping mall killing and wounding shoppers, the local response was so heated the protesters made themselves scarce. I didn't get the feeling the local crowd was intending to display the dignity and restraint of the PGR. If the media would quit focusing on these misguided zealots they would probably never be seen again. They thrive on the attention. Mike
  7. My gauge drops like that to but the warning light pretty is consistant at the 150-160 range. I have run it to 226 miles on the trip meter and taken just under 5 gallons at the pump. She was making gagging noises when I pulled in to fill up. One of those "had to find out" moments ya know.
  8. I've been going for the "Shaft" look myself.
  9. Thanks Randy, But I think I got it covered. Just want to check on one thing though. Some are listed with a spacer. I'm not seeing any spacers on my breakdowns so I assume that is for the speedo hub. Is that the same across the models? MKI & MKII Mike
  10. You're on the right track. There are still a few suppliers that carry these. They are usually listed under "Mini Barons Twin" for the small side lights it "Baron Twin" for the larger ones in the rear. Now if you're headed into the market for some chrome grills for the rear ones ....... let me know. Got a few sets of NOS ones on my rack.
  11. Thanks Dan, I've been in my lil workshop for the last two nights and most of this morning sanding down the lowers on the '87's getting ready to polish. Figured I'd better get hopping on finding an axle. Had one lined up but let it slip though my grubby lil fingers. I was going to check the onlines once my fingers quit cramping up. Hand sanding sucks but the results so far are looking pretty good. Later.
  12. Ain't that a hoot! Same coding I used when I rewired the firewall on my first car after the carb fire. I bought the biggest spool of white wire at the parts store had and had at it. God help the person that bought that car.
  13. Ok, I'm just checking. I'm doing the R1 brake upgrade using the forks off an '87. I'm going to need the front axle for the '87. Thought I ask around the site before I start digging in the online listings. Anybody got one laying around that needs a home? Mike
  14. Don't forget to list the color codes!!
  15. Nice Jeff. Looking forward to any info on the wiring you've done for this. I changed out the relectors on the radiator guards and side bags for LED's on my '84 and the blinking set up would be a nice touch. Mike
  16. There are times when some of the CL listings throw all kinds of red flags at you. I ran across an ad for '95 Linclon Towncar several years ago posted with the price of $900.00. The pics were of a very nice looking car and detail shots showing it was in excellent condition. I called the number (an out of area area code number at that) for the seller and asked about the price being correct. Yep, it was. I asked about seeing it and he said he was traveling at the time and would not be able to show it to me for a while. When asked where the car was and if I be able to drive by and see it I got the run around. I asked a bunch of questions and got good answers but was not able to get to see the car. I gave him my cell number and asked him to let me know when we could get together. I figured I'd never hear from him. About 4 days later I got the call back and he said he was home and if I was still interested I could see the car the next morning at 10:00 AM. The address was only a couple miles from my house so I drove by that evening. No car in sight. But I went over the next morning and found one of the cleanest Lincolns of that age I'd ever ran across. He came out and handed me the keys and I fired it up. Purred like a kitten. Talked about the cars history a bit and he was the second owner. Car was sold new in Atlanta, GA and he bought it there from the 1st owner. He then moved to Texas with it and had only recently moved to Nebraska. Car had seen a good life as far as the weather elements. It was flawless. Asked asked about why he was selling it for $900.00. Turned out he was ticked off at the Lincoln dealer where he had gone for a minor repair. The tab was $900.00. He felt ripped off so he said the heck with them. Wanted to break even on the $900.00 and was picking up his new BMW the next day. So when I left he caught me backing out and handed me a box. It was filled with all the service and repair invoices from the day it was bought new. I had to ask him why he had not been able to sell the car. He said he had dozens of calls but about everyone of them had hung up on him when he explained his situation. I was the only one that had left a number to call back. He told me he didn't want to give out the address where the car was as his wife was home alone and he was concerned about some of the folks who had called. Ya know ..... CL shoppers. I told him I had been concerned about the out of state phone number and he said he still had his cell service out of Texas. Hadn't changed it yet. Some times ya catch a break. Still driving that car and only spent about $500.00 on parts for repairs. Bargin of the year.
  17. Pretty tough to. Had mine on for a couple years before I swapped out to the 4 1/2" housings. Like yammer said, check the Depot, Menards or Lowes. Less than $3.00 each. Knocked mine down to 35w just to save on some drain. Mike
  18. 50! We start working on our tans at 50! Ain't that right Rosie.
  19. It was decently warm yesterday morning when I left for work. Considered taking the bike for the day but I took the cage instead. By the time I got off work it was starting to snow. Heavy, wet snow. On the way home I had the wipers going full speed and I could barey see a 100 feet ahead. Got into the driveway and got out to open the door and by the time I got back in the car it was covered. It was coming down that fast and heavy. Went inside for a bit to put things away and headed back out the garage. Danged sun was out and the snow was melting off faster than it came down. I love the seasonal changes here in Nebraska. Just not every half hour. NEBRASKA .... WHERE WE KEEP OUR SWIMSUITS IN THE POCKETS OF OUR PARKAS!
  20. Ya know Gary ..... If they had never invented digital cameras how would you ever get out of the darkroom and find time to hang here and work on your bike?
  21. Thanks for the offer but I'm cool on parts. That's the thing about having done several sets.... left overs. When I'm done with this set I'll have two working set ups. The original '84's with stock brakes and the finished '87's with the R1 upgrade. Not to mention both sets fully polished. I'm still sticking with losing one of the spacers. Like in Dingys #10 pic, use the cupped washer with the PVC ONLY. The 1 1/2 inches is WAY to much. You're asking for a fight you may not win. Mike
  22. Gene Pool? In my family it was more like a puddle. Learned early to go in feet first. Diving in causes brain damage. Living proof.
  23. First rebuild? Who ya talking to KIC? This is my forth set. Did two on the '84 forks and started on a set of '87's for my R1 upgrade but gave up after finding SO MUCH internal damage by the PO. Just got another set of '87's a while back and starting on polishing them up before this rebuild. That top cup with the o-ring appears to do nothing more than center that long OEM steel spacer inside the upper tube. You wanna talk about screwed up stuff I could tell ya about some of the cobble jobs I have picked up off fleaBay. Water pipe spacers two different sizes, lock washers on the oil locks, chisel goughs where the seal was cut out of the tubes, missing or wrong rebound springs, ah heck. Some creative minds out there and some are downright dangerous with tools. These new '87's I got had ALL the wave washers on one side and nuttin on the other. Haven't even got the oil locks out yet of these. Wedged in pretty tight. That's tonights project. Heat gun and some dry ice to shock 'em out. Maybe. You my friend had it easy. It could have been a lot worse. But check those measurments and see how close that spacer comes to the top. Mike
  24. KIC, Just guessing here as I'm just getting started on my '87 fork rebuild and haven't checked the Progressives fit in it yet but.... Using both the PVC spacer AND the top cup off the old top steel spacer looks like it is doubling the preload. All you really need is the flanged washer on top of the spring and the spacer on top of that. It should be close to even with the top of the fork. As you thread the top cap in it will compress the spring about 3/4 of an inch as it goes in. The top cup (with the o-ring) might even be enough to fit right instead of the PVC. It looks to be about the same size. See how that lines up. Mike
  25. Shotgun? Good Lord that makes a mess out of dinner! Where I grew up the area was nothing but Oak and Walnut trees and very few neighbors close by. Except for the squirrels. Lots of squirrels. My dad taught me how to shoot with a .22 rifle and well .... lil moving targets. His idea of a fun time was shooting the Walnuts right out of the lil sticky fingers while they were settling in for a snack just to wind them up. Once he had their attention he's pop 'em in the head. He hated a body shot. Too much damage. He expected the same from me. Never knew what a scope was until years later. Once the area started to develope and people started to complain about the gun fire, even with the generous offer of free squirrel meat, he changed tactics and bought me a bow. Much quieter. Squirrel-ka-bob! So if you ever drove past a home and saw a young boy in tree with a rifle .... we've met. Back then nobody called the cops. Today...... there would be S.W.A.T. unit on the surrounding roof tops. All I can say in my defense is I never shot myself. Dad would have kicked my butt for that. Make an effort to try something exciting. Climb a Walnut tree with a bow over your shoulder and a handful of arrows. I grew up alright. I think. And to answer the question of why go up the tree in the first place......... Sometimes they didn't fall out. Mike
