I feel for ya, I really do. I've had sever allergies all my life. It seems I've out grown most of the the minor ones but still fight the worst of them. Dust and pollen. Great for a rider ya know. I had one summer a while back where took my daugther to a kite festival and ended up sitting the the car with the A/C just so I could breath. Had the doc do some meds for me and they seemed to really help with the breathing except ...... If I spent so much as 20 minutes in direct sunlight my skin would start to blister immediately. My bro-in-law still calls me Captain Scabby. I hate side effects. They finally hit a cocktail that smoothed things out for me. After a couple years it seemed to clear up and it's not as bad any more. Can't wait for the next round. Hope it clears up soon for ya. Mike

That is good to hear. Did they give any reason as to the faliure? Mike

Glad to hear you're not TOO damaged. Messed up ribs are not my favorite kind of pain and then having to go that 3/4 mile to the house....... you're a tough one kiddo! Hope you heal quick and the bike is not to bad. So that's one hard reminder to keep my cell in the inner pouch in my jacket. I keep forgetting about that lil pocket. Maybe we need one of those alert button that sends a message like, "HELP! I've high sided and I can't get up!" Heal well, Mike

Got to bet he is enjoying a nice long nap.

So offer to meet her half way. When I talked to a dealer about three years ago about doing fork seals they asked me on or off the bike. I went with the Off answer. They shot me $65.00 per side plus parts so figured another $100 to $150 depending on their mood. Better than handing them a bucket of money for shop time R&Ring the fairing and bits. I mean, ya know..... how much trouble can ya get into popping the fairing and dropping the tubes. The cussing don't start until you get to putting the seals in right KIC? Just a thought. Mike

Radar Detector - Best Choice?
Snaggletooth replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
As a friend of mine that owns an electronic store says, "This one will tell you that you are so busted faster than any of the others." I gave up on all the radar and laser detection toys long ago. When it got to the point where they could pin point the exact vehicle and nail ya the first shot it just didn't seem to be worth the expense anymore. And I'm always within the legal speeds limits on every road or street I travel on at all times. If you ever thought you saw me in excess of the limits I don't know who you are or why you would say such a thing. Some times I crack myself up saying stuff like that. -
I was reading his updates and he hit Gallup, the turn around point at 12 hours. Half the time for the trip. He was concerned about the time with the night riding. Expected it might slow him down a bit. I guess this will be his "Trial by Fire" on his new headlight. Hope it leads him safely. Hang in there Twigg! Mike

Good luck! Be watching ya. Mike

One lil tweak..one BIG mistake.
Snaggletooth replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Exactly! This is the same type of break that happens with the side stand bolt. Folks tighten it and then tighten it some more. It can only go so tight because of the shoulder. It ends up breaking because of stress where the reduction is from the shoulder to the thread size. In most cases the broken off threads section is little more than finger tight. Should be easy to remove the broken threaded section. Access and getting the grip on it is the trick on the cover bolts. -
Rear needle bearing inner race
Snaggletooth replied to frankd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That collar should be fairly easy to slide out. Try a light tap with some pressure. Probably a bunch of gunge holding it in. Don't damage the cage on the bearing! That project was a bear when I replaced the rear bearing. Mike -

Get the Gas out
Snaggletooth replied to rayzar52's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Two easy ways. Remove the fuel line from the petcock and run another piece of line from there to a container. Or ......... remove the fuel line from the feed side of the fuel pump and drain from there. Of course check the tank for rust before proceeding. You don't need Hi Test. Good old regular will be fine BUT add a good dose of Sea Foam to the new gas and let it sit in the carb bowls over night then run the daylight out of it. Mike -

Ok, easy route here. At your original post select "Edit" then "Go Advanced". Then go to "Manage Attachments". You'll see the pop up window for adding images. Select "Browse" then when that window opens find the file on your "C" drive and highlight that file and click "Open". The selected file will now show in the image column. Click "Upload" and the screen will show the the message "Uploading .... Please wait". When that clears close that window and you should have the thumbnail image showing at the bottom of your post. Click it for a full size. I don't know how large the original image is but I think Don has this to set up to resize automatically. If not shout back. Mike- 2 replies

I had the day off and decided to put the new tires on this morning. And change the oil. And grease the drive shaft. And clean the hub. And check the pads. And do this that and the other. During the process it hits 80 degrees and the sun comes out. About dark I got done and got out long enough to start scuffing up the new shoes. Now I got bugs all over my windscreen. BUGS! In March! Geesh. Mike

Good points. Two things that I think have affected the performance of my AGM is the fact that it has never had a maintainer on it. It never has needed the extra boost even during storage I have the upgrade stator and the upgrade R/R Mosfet also. The system is a solid 14.4 just above idle. With the battery dormant it is always showed 12.8 v. So with all components working properly it all adds up to a reliable system. Mike

As I have had such great performance from the DEKA AGM battery but never had a need to charge it in the 4 years it's been in the bike this thread has raised some good issues. I went back to the folks who were kinda of on the front line when we first were looking at the DEKA AGM's about four years back. I contacted Joshua at Bohannon Battery that answered many questions for us back then and even did a load test between the DEKA 18L and the Odessy that was the hot item at the time. That test showed the DEKA had the higher CCA performance that I was looking for. But I sent Joshua the OP on the "facts" and asked about the best charging method for the AGM. This was his response: "To be honest #9 does not make a lot of sense to me. Regardless of whether or not a battery is lead acid or AGM, it should never be "charged" by an alternator. A vehicle alternator is meant to maintain the charge of the battery, but not fully charge a discharged battery. This puts too much strain on the charging system. Although certain AGM batteries may be charged at rates up to 75% of their rated capacity, the bottom line is, the faster a battery is charged, the hotter the internals get. We never charge a battery by more than 10% of its rated capacity. This is to ensure a long life span. In my opinion the absolute best charger is the Schumacher SE82-6. It has a 6 amp setting for automotive and marine, and a 2 amp setting for lawn and power sport batteries. Its going to charge the battery no matter what the voltage is, and the amps will taper down as the battery charges." So to cut that short, the lower charge rate, 2a is the best level to charge a discharged AGM battery. Expecting to quick jump a battery and expect the alternator system to "charge it" may is an issue. Fully charging the battery before reinstalling it in the bike should be method used. I agree on the Schumacher chargers. I have the SSC 1500 with the 2, 10 and 15a settings. I only use the 2a when charging bike batteries. This charger will read a completely discharged battery and bring it back to a full level. Just info guys, not ammo Mike

Found great little driving lights at Yallmart
Snaggletooth replied to cabreco's topic in General Tech Talk
What I have I picked up at Menards in the home lighting section. In the 35w: Malibu Brand 35w 12v ML35W16C I picked up some 20w for the heck of it to. 20w: Feit Electric Brand (not my favorite for durability) 20w 12v Flood BAB/CG Both brands were around $3.00 each but that was about a year ago. Mike
