  1. From what I have heard they are not dangerous...... just butt ugly. Or is that Bugly in todays terms? Just don't be near the water at the crack of dusk.
  2. eBay is about the only place you're going to run into those these days. Mike
  3. Dang Gary, I had to do a double take on that one. It looked a lot like a bike I had looked at a while back. But..... I didn't pick it up. Drooling when I saw it, ran away when I looked it over. It was dressed up nice but all trashed underneath. Glad it wasn't the same bike. Yikes! Have fun with the Smurf. Mike
  4. The forks I bought off eBay for my brake conversion had some nasty looking marks on the inners just above the seals. I could not feel anything and running some of my daughter panthose (sshh, don't tell her) over them I found no snags. I worked the inners with 1200 and then 1500 grit and wet sanded them with WD40 and they cleaned up very nicely. All marks are gone and look like new again. I'm hoping for the best when I get them on. Mike
  5. So when is the M&E with the new hot tub? Opps ....Keith beat me in.
  6. I think Dano had that set up originally but that will probably never happen again at the price we got them for. I tryed to see if I could set up another group buy with the same guy and that was a one time only deal from him. Had some, don't have no more.
  7. PM skydoc_17, (Earl). He's been selling some Mosfet type R/R's that should work as well as upgrade stators if needed. He will be able to answer any questions about your charging issue also. I'd be suspecting a problem with the stator at that low range of charge. Are you testing the volts with a multimeter at the battery with the motor reving above 2,000 RPM? 12.4 is at a drain point and the 13.4 is doing very little to help. Readings should be much closer to 14.5 for best performance. Like Ken, I mounted mine inside the left fairing also. I'm charging at a constant 14.4 now but that is with an upgrade stator. The link in Ken's post is the same as the group buy one and a good price with the the Maxi fuse set put and connections. He also shows another listing with only the R/R and the needed plug connectors for $110.95. Mike
  8. Ok, the first round was a rebuild on the forks with new bushings and seals and added the Progressives. Had the oil at 5.5" from the top and used 10wt. Had the spacers at 3/4". The springs felt quite harsh at first but coming from the OEM's what did I know. It was an improvement. After about a year they seemed to soften up a bit. Only added air while pushing through the curves. Then I had the seals start leaking so it was time for another seal job. Because of the leak I could not be sure how that effected the fork feel. Then after the next seal job I dropped the oil level to 6" at 10wt. I did add a couple washers to the tops of the spacers. The ride was better, softer. Those seals failed for unknown reasons and I only replaced the seals and and kept the setup the same. Still no air pressure used. Now I'm doing the '87 forks for the brake upgrade and I plan to go to 15wt oil at 6.5". I'm 280 lbs so I think the heavier oil will help. I've been wrestling with the idea of the Race Tech Gold Emulators for the '87 forks but haven't decided yet. Still on the bench. The Progressives, when new they did change the stance of the bike alot. Front end really came up a lot. Handled better and no more bottoming out. I never ran into the problem of the forks not moving at all as had been mentioned. The ride has been much smoother and knocked the jar out of the rough roads for sure. I ride solo most all the time with little gear unless I take off out of town.
  9. In the last year I've had several riders, LEO's included, and a few non riders approach me to talk about my '84. The common theme was the age of the bike and it's condition and their love of the older bikes. I enjoy my ride but it makes me feel pretty good that others enjoy it also. So to pass it along ...... nice job on keeping the old girl alive and well. Looks great. I'm sure your going to meet a lot of new folks on it. Mike
  10. I think Oklahoma has a grip on the pursuit bikes these days. And isn't the CamAm the new hot ride for West Virginia? Omaha of course is still running the HD's. Had a lovely display of 6 of them today on the off ramp behind two patrol cars with the radar out. Not running, but they certainly looked threating sitting there.
  11. A rubber one. There. That's settled. Whew ....... That was a close one.
  12. I think spending the night in a captive relationship with a racoon would be fair enough. No bears around here so ya work with what ya got.
  13. Man ain't that the truth. From what I read about history public hanging did a pretty good job of keeping the riff raff in line ..... or on line. I'm still ticked but I can still laugh. I'll make it. Still got the urge to
  14. She's been well hugged today. Several times. Lynching isn't going to work. The barbs keep the wire from slipping. Drat!
  15. The drive shaft lube and the fuel filter change are must do items for me at every rear tire change. So much easier to do when you have it torn down that far already. I just mounted my new rear tire last week after 25,000 miles and was concerned about the drive shaft condition. I cleaned and lubed it at the last mount up. The shaft was still will lubed and no metal particles. It's all preventative maintance and it beats the daylights out of not being able to get the bike to move. Some have found rust on the drive shaft spines when they opened them up. So not cool. Have fun. Mike
  16. While it's easy to access pull the radiator cover and clean off the radiator. Check all hose connections. Remove the four bolts on the rear drive and remove it and pull the drive shaft out, clean it, and grease with with moly grease. Remove and clean the buffer block in the rear wheel and clean it. Also clean the pins it sits in and a light lube on those also. This when dirty will make a clicking sound and can cause vibration. Check and grease wheel bearing both front and rear. Lube speedo cable. Oh yeah, change the fuel filter while you have the rear tire off. Much easier to do. When it's back together run it for a while to warm up the rear drive and drain and refill with new oil. Well, you asked didn't ya. I do hope you are doing this yourself. be much cheaper. A shop will steal ya blind. Mike
  17. This morning about 6:00 AM my daughter was driving her car headed to her job on a two lane road just outside of the city. This is a fairly busy road during the day but not so much at the time of morning. She was doing about 55 mph and heard a scraping noise and the car jerked to the left and slid into the oncoming lane. She couldn't control the car as she slid. She ended up sitting on the edge of the road (no shoulder there) on the oncoming side. She got out to find both front tires flat and a rear losing air. There was a LOT of barbed wire caught under the car and wrapped up in the front suspension. She called 911 as she was alone on the road and no one had come along yet. The Sheriffs Dept responded in good time and helped her contact a friend of mine and made towing arrangements. They got her car safely off the road and to the shop. So a tow bill, three new tires and daughter is okay. Car will survive with a few minor repairs. So... stuff happens on the rural roads right? Stuff falls off trucks, farmers drag stuff out of the fields, and all that. BUT.... come to find out tonight this is the third time this has happend to drivers in the last 6 days in that same area in the early mornings. What the H***? Does this sound like a mishap? An accident? Not to me. The tow driver said he cut off almost 75 feet of barbed wire off the car. It looked like the wire had been looped around a tree trunk as the bark had been scalped off. Me.... I'm just sitting here smoldering figuring out how to make a slip knot for a noose out of barbed wire. I'm thrilled my kid is ok and unharmed but a bit scary for myself also. I run that same road on my bike about every Sunday morning headed out for my Sunday ride. So what are the odds of catching the fool doing this? Probably not very high. Not good at all. I just have this thing about justice. This joker needs to be caught and damned fast before some one gets killed. I'll shut up now..... I need to practice on my knot. Mike
  18. You're a good man Boomer, ya done a good thing. Mike
  19. Looks good. If it would only help. Too many folks around here drive like they are in the privacy of their own living room. No perception of anyone or any thing around them. They scare the daylights out of me. Gotta be top of game every mile out there. Thanks for the good work for a good cause. Mike
  20. I just was checking my e-mails and had a notice from Verizon Wireless that they required immediate payment of my current bill or my service would be shut off. There was a link to send the payment for $949.87. Yikes! Better take care of that right away. WAIT! I don't have and never did have Verizon Wireless. That's the norm for these days but claiming a friend or family member is in distress or injured is pretty low. Mike
  21. Not the latest addition to my bike but I did the upgrade stator about 3, 4 years ago using the one from Rick at Buckeye Performance. Never an issue and I had the case open a year ago for look see and the stator looked new. Not even a dark spot. Nice compared to the OEM I took out. 2/3's black and nasty. I added the Shindengen Mosfet R/R this last year and they are the perfect combo. I know, what it is, Ricks Electronics sells them cheaper but there have been some reliabilty issues I beleive. Squidly will probably post on that. Now skydoc_17 is selling something you might want to look into also. Mike
  22. 1 in 10,000? You would think we would have been hearing a lot more war stories about fast and fatal failures on new purchases with those odds. Strange indeed. Mike
  23. POWER NAPS!!
  24. I got a couple that shows up at the area where I work on a pretty regular basis, like when the weather is nice. They park their newish dually crew cab pickup in the lot and drag their SS cooler and a couple of lawn chairs out by the exit. They sit there all day long with their sign out saying, "We need help!" Yeah, right. Got to be near 700 pounds between the two of them and they snack all day on food and Pepsi from the cooler and chain smoke name brand cigs all day. I amazes me how many folks stop and hand over cash to these two. Just ain't right.
  25. Had the same issue when I bought the new Cee Baily screen for my '84. Got the front bolts in fine but had to Dremel out the rears just a tad to get then seated right. Mike
