I'm good!!! I still had stuff left over from Y2K. Anybody need a few cases of lumpy Sterno?

It's been dropping pretty steady here for a while. Down to $2.92 at most stations. However...... I noticed yesterday that some stations, at the height of the snow storm, had raised their prices back to $3.95. A buck a gallon jump at the first sign of snow? Come on! That's gouging with a big stick!!

Being distracted yesterday with digging out my daughters car I'm just catching up with the local situation. The snow and wind here knocked out power to 40,000 people overnight. I see this morning there are still 11,000 without power in this area alone. They hope to have power back by Saturday morning. It's 8 degrees out this morning. That's gotta suck. They added 250 cots to the local shelters just to help get people in from the cold that lost power yesterday. One heck of a way to start off the winter.

Thank you and yes, me to. Amazinly enough with as little traffic as there was it was witnessed by a State Trooper that was behind her. The other car got stopped and took off headed the other way. The Trooper stopped to check her and dug the car out enough to get to door opened so she clould climb out. He radioed for another unit to look for the other car. He wasn't happy with them taking off and leaving her in the ditch. She was a lil freaked out. She realized how close it came to being a much worse situation. I'm thrilled that she kept her wits about her and avoided contact with the other car. She had a good day in my book. We met some good people today. The Trooper looked after her and even dropped her off at work, a local young man with a 4x4 dually that stopped and helped me dig the car and out and pulled it out of the ditch, (and wouldn't accept a dime) and the local good old boys at the corner store that shot the bull with me during the whole deal. And not to forget the young gal cashier at the corner store that call the guy with the 4x4. Her husband! Makes a fella want to move to the contry. (maybe in the spring)

Been a fun day here. One heck of a first snow fall last nite and with the winds it chewed us up pretty good. I had to go rescue my daughter this morning. She moved about 35 miles south of me into the country. On her way to work this morning she had to dodge an oncoming car on a two lane highway that was spinning out. She ended eating about 50 foot of snow in the ditch to avoid hitting him. No harm done. She got a bloody nose and the car will live. I figure I only saw about a dozen cars moving in those 35 miles down to her. About half that many in the ditches. Always cracks me up. The only thing in the ditches were 4x4 pickups and jeeps. Those pics were taken about 4 pm today south of Omaha. Didn't look that way when I took off that way this morning. About 17 degrees and 30 mile an hour cross winds in white out conditions at times. The roads were wind packed and icey at 8:00 am. the wind blew me in my old 3,700 lb Lincoln off of Hwy 34 on the way down. The old girl gets traction at least. I was able to get it back up on the road under its own power. it's gonna be fun in the morning. Roads are wet now with runoff and slush and the temps are headed towards 6 degrees over night. I gotta look for my hockey skates. I love winter in Nebraska..... until I have to drive in it. Mike

When I first opened the post and saw the first pic I thought "Man, he got off easy." And then the next few pics turned to "Gonna hurt in the morning." I'm glad to see you're here and typing away. You had a good day.

I've used two of them with good results. I had one in the warehouse at my work station. Stayed pretty chilly in there during the winter months. It kept me warm when within 6 to 8 feet of it. Past that........nada. But that's the nature of the thing. It ain't a room heater. (It also warmed up pizza real nice if ya tipped it back a bit) The other one stays down in my basement shop. I don't vent heat down there during the winter so I fire up the lil heater near my workbench. Works fine for me. I never noticed any change in my bill but for a couple hours a night it was a low cost answer rather than warming the whole basement. Mike

I bought a new/used one a few months ago. Somebody had bought it new, assembled it and then traded it off with their bike for a car. I don't think from the looks of it they ever pulled it. ( a lot of incorrect assembly might have had something to do with trading it off IMHO) But, after correcting the problems, upgrading a few things like LED lights, better zerks, shimming the receiver mount and actually using real grease on the bearings, and then of course changing out the entire damaged wiring harness I'm pretty happy with it. I've only put about 500 miles on it since I got it but it works fine for my plans. Weekend camping trips and such. Probably won't be my choice for dragging to Alaska. But it pulls great and rides smooth. Hardly know it back there at all. Just take your time during assembly and read the advice here on what needs to be changed to make it right the first time. Will save you some fixes down the road. Mike

That sucks. But that's is the way it is anymore. Everywhere. The company I used to work for had no policy against carrying a gun into the stores as long as it was not an employee doing it. The store had been robbed 4 times, three of them by armed persons while I was there. There were several of us that had CCW permits and training and were warned not to carry on the property when the issue was brought up. I'm not saying it's a need to draw and fire situation but it damn sure lets the bad boys know some one else is in position to defend themselves. Even our hired security guards and off duty LEO's hired to protect the store were not allowed to be armed. Made no sense to me. I'm sure someone will step up and hire this guy before long. He showed a lot of loyalty to the company and his friend. Mike

I've been replacing the broken studs on the side covers on my '84 with these 10mm ball studs. Worked out better than what I was doing before trying to rebuild the stud with fiberglass rod and JB Weld. Probably work with other applications as well. Mike Ooppps. I see they got ya covered on that on the other thread.

I know I'm like everybody else. Always looking for the right buy at the right price and then you have to consider the shipping costs. I've passed up some decent deals over time because the shipping was WAYYYY out of line. So when I find a part I've been wanting at a competitive price with FREE SHIPPING I'm all over it. A few days ago I ran across something I'd been looking at a good price and Free Shipping. Didn'd even have to mess with bidding as it was a good ol' eBay BIN. Yea! It was even a respected seller. Even better. So when I got home today I found a package, box, (one step short of a crate) on my front porch. What the heck? Didn't order a short block! Or a Microwave oven. So I drag it in and start to open it up and start pulling out packing paper. Ended up with 2 strips of heavy packing paper that were each 35 feet long and 2 foot wide. That my friends is a lot of packing paper. So looking into the box I got the chuckles. Had to take some pics. Overkill has a new definition. So I'm still giggling at what the heck that package would have cost to ship. The postage weight on the box was 7 pounds. The part in it...... less than 3 lbs and would have fit in my mail box. So the next time you go to order a part that would fit in a regular envelope and they want $20.00 to ship it...... it's my fault. They are trying to make up the loss. Mike

Damn! I got a 6 to. Does that mean we have to split it? I feel so greedy. Mike

Newbie with carb question
Snaggletooth replied to ncnative's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If the fuel is fresh and the system is clean it don't take a lot to a full tank for regular running as a preventive measure. I'd use an ounce to a full tank every third or forth time I fill up. I ride every day so I don't worry about it to much. If you only ride once a month a little more will keep things cleaned up. Keep in mind that when using the Sea Foam for cleaning buildup that as it breaks down residue and gunge that burns onto the plugs on it's way out of the systen and it will foul the plugs in time. Like when I store the bike for winter I dose the full tank with about half a can of Sea Foam. In the spring I burn off that tank and then the next one also. Then I replace the plugs with fresh and I'm good for the season again. Mike -

New rear tire...
Snaggletooth replied to PuttPutt's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yep, I do. I got 25,000 miles out of my first set, (and I ran them to the end) at 50 lbs. I'm into my second set now since last spring. I'm 265 myself and keep a close eye on pressure. I do run solo most the time and try to keep the twist out of the wrist. Not real good at that. Living in Nebraska I have to look for roads where I can wear down the edges to keep it rounded off. It's like 285 miles with 11 curves around here. It's tough to kill a chicken strip here in the middle of corn country. As far as performance on wet roads...... nuttin better in my books. Mike -

First thing to try would be a good dose of Sea Foam in the fuel. It may not solve all the issues but it will help a LOT on cleaning out any grunge than is clogging the needles and jets. Some have had extremely good results with this product on bikes that have been neglected. Myself included. Always a good step before pulling the carbs. And even doing a carb sync will help with popping and smoothness. Worth a shot. And welcome to the site. Mike -

Starter Clutch Mod
Snaggletooth replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
All you need to send to Dano is the rotor itself and the shim/washer that is under the old engage clutch. Everything else in the mod is provided by Dano. The new and completely different engage clutch with the new ring gear to match the engage clutch. He machines the new mounting holes and aligns the engage with new hardware. Mike -
Some of you may remember the Rune listed on eBay a year or so ago with a $1,000,000 price tag. But it had free shipping!! I'm pretty sure it was one of those days when the wifey said "It goes or I go." Guy made an effort. He listed it. Even listed it twice as there were no takers. It's a guy thing. "Sorry Honey, I tried! I really did. I'm gonna miss ya." Mike

One of my weak spots. Always wanted to have one, or two in the stable. I ran across a nice one two years ago for $2,000 and missed it by 10 minutes. It will happen........ eventually. Mike

Man, Gary, my mind is reeling right now. Looking forward to watching all this come into its own. This should be fun to watch. Mike

Power should not have been a problem. The one I test rode was a trip to twist on. Easy to forget how fast you you were going and not hard to get there.....at all! And clunky shifting seems to be the norm from what I've been told by owners. Still, it's not a V4. What a shame. Mike
