Brake pad Thickness
Snaggletooth replied to MidlifeVenture's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When I bought the new MAC turndown pipes for my '84 they were a bit out of round and would not slide onto the header pipes off the engine. I stopped into the local muffler shop in my neighborhood and explained my problem and showed them the pipes. The manager said be right back and took them out to the shop. He was back in 5 minutes and they were opened up a bit and round like they should have been. When I opened my billfold he waved me off and told me to stop back when I got them mounted so they could see them on the bike. Walked away with a handshake. Worked out pretty well. My next stops were to be the auto supply stores to rent an expander or Harbor Freight to buy a cheapie one. -

Maybe I should move my rock collection into the gun vault. But I never expected the day I'd see Twinkies going for $45.00 a boxes either. -

My dad gave the safety course when he caught me throwing rocks. Didn't take no 40 hours either. That belt hurt! -

And another one........... Just when I was starting to worry the world had gone nuts......now I'm convinced. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160953713972?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 This one looks a bit pricey. -
My advice is DON"t DO THAT!!! Take it from a guy that went from 398 lbs to 270. It took a while but I got there. May have some more to lose. It's a battle every day. But my point is...... the daily weight checks ......... you will find them depressing. Once a month is good enough, once a week (as stated in your post) will show some minor results. But the lack of changes from day to day, up or down, will make you second guess yourself or fail to follow the orignal plan. Good luck on your journey. Mike

I've been sitting back watching all the info over the proposed weapons bans over the last few weeks. Won't even go there. No desire or need to. Don't intend to either. So please keep with my theme. But I ran across this listing this morning on eBay and it cracked me up. It's nice to see someone still is keepinng a sense of humor during all this. Found it a little late to post the link but made a couple .pdf files of it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tactical-Assault-Rock-from-CroMagnum-Arms-International-CAI-/261153926569?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&nma=true&si=8aRuiXd0wPHlQiprQbVkPlE1YQk%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc The questions posted at the bottom of the listing were the best. Some people can still laugh about all this. The seller even has a Assault Spork listed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/261153740945?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Mike

Then I used 7/8" and Bob went bigger. Been a while. -

On the sections for the hand grips it's 7/8" if I remember right. For the Snagglestuds I think Bob used 7/8" stock also. -
I ordered my DEKA from Bohannon's I think over four seasons ago. It was $82.00 back then shipped to my door here in Nebraska. Had it threes days after I ordered it. No regrets at all. It's a 12.8 volt battery and that is the least it showed on my digital voltmeter every time I hit the switch. I've never had to use a Tender on it for any reason. Never had a need to. I was in the garage this morning and checked the reading. It was at 12.6 and hasn't been touched in over a month. That's on a four+ year old battery. Fired right up. Some claim you can get 10 years out of an AGM if cared for. I'm hoping. I've paid over $120.00 for a Name Brand L/A and only got a season or two out of it. I'm liking this one alot. I know you'll like it. Mike

Yep, sounds like the end is getting close. I think my favorite people to deal with are in your state, if not area. Check out Bohannon for the ETX20L for your bike. Josh is great to talk to there. http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka/etx20l.html You can't beat the DEKA AGM's for the CCA, money, quality or performance. Mike

I keep hearing stories about that stuff...........

Also, if you're in the mood to play with the diaphrams before replacing them, check this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=71496 If they aren't totally dried and cracked it might get you running. I've done this on several bikes with very good results. This spray will seal all the lil holes and seems to revitalize the rubber a bit giving it a lil more flex. Not a permanent fix, but it holds up very well. Still have one set in my '84. Mike

Does the canister look like the black one in the pic? Is so, it's a California model. I can't help you with that but someone else should come along with more info. The middle .pdf file is the drain line mod from the air box. Nothing to do with the carbs directly but more hose confusion for a new owner. Mike

I agree. For a couple of young gals they have done a lot to keep up the property and make some improvements. They are on about 5 acres and mostly wooded. They keep the front mowed down and have been dragging dead fall in from the woods. They cleared an area and built a stone fire pit out back. The owner seems to be pleased with the work they have done. He dropped off a huge roll of plastic sheeting a while back and apologised for the poor windows. He helped them get the sheeting up on a few and they finished it up. Her girlfriend hunts and likes to shoot. She asked if they could clear an area by the ravine at the back of the property to build a small range. He gave them the ok for that project. I'm planning on pitching in on that one myself. Nothing like gun fire to keep the wolves way. LOL! The thing is that blows my mind is they have no cable TV, only a broadcast convertor and no computer hook up and still they seem to be surviving. Never thought that was possible for a young person today. Mike

Or..... go to the bottom right corner to Edit Tags and give it a tag name. Then you can do a tag search from the top search menu and pull it up any time.

I used one of the Snagglestuds on the crashbars for a lower mount with my Drift 170. Pretty decent mounting place for a different view point. I can swivel the mount from forward to all angles and the rear. A little vibration at idle but pretty smooth at higher RPMs. I tried all kinds of ways of mounting for a higher view point. I ended up making an angle bracket out of aluminum and mounted it on the upper edge of the fairing where the mirror bolts on. You can see in the pics I've made some mods in that area already. Not the same as a 2nd gen but an idea for the area. Maybe something off the mirrors mounting point on yours? A friend of mine bought one of those lipstick style cameras and stuck it on his helmet. He didn't like as he was never sure what was going to be the center of the shot. Fixed him right up. Mounted a laser rifle sight next to it and centered the camera on the laser at about 100 ft. Talk about taking some flack!!! He didn't keep it that way very long. Mike

I installed a Datel digital voltmeter about 4 years ago in the right fairing cover. Been in the rain, snow, above 105 temps and well below freezing temps. It's a tough unit. Only a voltmeter but it tells you what you need to know. http://www.bikemeters.com/cgi-bin/webshop.cgi?config=ent-datel Mike

Well they got ahold of the owner last night and he felt bad about the furnace problem. He said he had the unit checked when the last renter moved out about two years ago. He contacted his heating company and they are sending out someone today to inspect and clean it. Sounds like a decent landlord. All is good.

It's water proof right? What are ya doing inside? Go for it! Mike

Well they got it fired up. I'd had them turn off the thermostat and let it sit for a bit. It took 4 trys for it to fire up. They could not see a pilot light on and with no instructions on hand for relighting I was digging online for a manual. The "automatic" kind of had me wondering on the relighting. So apparently it's an electronic ignition. I've never seen the thing so was a guessing across the board. It's an old house built in the 70's and way back off the highway on gravel roads. I'm thinking all kinds of problems from dirty sensors. Who knows the last time it was checked out well. But they are warming up. I did talk to them about contacting the rental ower and let them know what happend. Not a good thing this time of year and a couple of young gals back in the sticks. They love it out there but ya no, they lack some basic skills and knowlege for contry living. I'll feel a lot better if and when the owner sends some one out to check the furnace. I'll give them my plug in heater and a cabonmonoxide alert alarm to help out in the meantime. Remember......I'm talking to young women who drive in..... not on... the snow. And she wonders why I worry. Geesh! Thanks for the replies guys. Now back to your holiday festivities. Mike

Got her doing that now. Waiting to hear back with any results. I'm all for an easy fix. Mike

My daughter just called. She's at the house her and her girlfriend share. Their furnace is apparently not heating. She said they just had the propane tank filled yesterday and it seemed to be working last night. Tank is on and showing pressure. I was trying to walk her through checking and relighting the furnace. It's an Arcoaire Deluxe 2 stage Model NTP605. I had her check for stickers on the panels for relighting directions and all they could find was one that said "Autostart", no relighting info at all. I'm not even familiar with propane furnaces so I'm gonna ask.......what the hell? Any suggestions as to what I can do from here to get them fired up? Mike
