  1. PP sent for two. Thanks Don
  2. In defense of the Fiamm electrics, they are pretty decent horns. I installed a set of Hi-Lo's on my '84. They are black and ugly as can be but I think they were rated at about 132 dbs. So far the score is one befundled grey hair over a curb, one delivery truck swerving back where he came from, a couple of serious coffee spllls in cages and a few other wild eyed stares from inattentive motorists. And I'm still in one piece. As far as them having Fiamm covers over a Stebel horn, kind of odd if not questionable.
  3. Hey Ben. Have you looked at the seal in the metal trim of the trunk? That was where mine was leaking at when I got it. Once I got past that it buttoned up nice and tight.
  4. Here's a post from when I did mine. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45136 Power was no problem. Ran a ground and patched a hot lead off my marker lights. Used a two wire trailer connector to make the connection between the bike and the trunk for easy removal. Small hole for the trunk lead wires and some silicon and it stays bone dry inside.
  5. Tim, you seem like a guy that likes to keep busy. Here's a project for ya. Trunk liner from Wally World and spray adhesive from NAPA should keep ya out of trouble for a while. Don't forget to wire it for power for the lights and USB ports. There is ALWAYS something to do.
  6. Just something I remember from somewhere, and something I've seen. That term, "combined weight" could come back to bite ya. It seems I read a post here, or on another forum a year or so ago that someone had used the metal ramps like these to load a Venture. Like your's, they were rated at 500 lbs each. Don't remember the setup they used or the trailer height but in the end one of the ramps buckled under the weight and they dropped the bike. Didn't work out well for them. Now I have seen a friend try the same thing with a 1800 GW and a set of HF ramps rated the same. He had made a support for the center with a hinge pin to attach the two 6" sections where the support was and give him a total of a 12' ramp. The support was high enough to change the pitch of the metal sections so he wouldn't high center at the support or at the trailer. Looked good. He used 2 12' 2x10's, one on each side for balance. Weak spot there was where the ramps changed angles at the support point the 12' 2x10's did not. He would lose contact with his feet as he passed the center point. In the trial run he got past the center support ok but the weight of the bike started to bow the top section of ramp. He wasn't comfortable with it and neither was I acted as a spotter at the side of the bike He ended up tossing the idea in the name of safety, and the love of his bike in one piece. The one good thing that came out of it was his treatment of the 2x10's. He had rough sanded the wood and given it a heavy coat of paint. Then while the paint was wet he poured sand all over it and let the paint dry. Then shook off the remaining sand and another coat of paint. He ended up using them to load his kids quads. Had great traction wet or dry. But just my wanderings on the subject.
  7. I've had a Dura-Shield since I bought my bike in "06. I used it primarly when I stored the bike over the winter months (inside) but carried it for my longer overnight runs when the bike was going to be outside. Been a great cover. Still used it for covering the bike during the winter just to keep it clean. No wear spots or cuts so far. I think I got it for $25.00 bucks back then. Happy with the investment.
  8. Looking good Tim. Progress is great isn't it. And now no bugs in your teeth! Unless you're into snacking on those critters. Mike Note: Thought I'd give ya lil boost on your pic. Since you're feeling good.
  9. Been there myself. A gal I used to date was 4'11". I was 6'3". Good Lord I lost count of how many times I'd turn around and elbow that poor girl in the head. Never could get her on a bike, but she sure liked wearing a helmet.
  10. have you posted anything over at http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/search.php?searchid=4270642 Found a lot of info there tracking a couple I was looking at. All I have ever kept was my Uncle Henry I picked up back in the mid 70's. Never found a need to replace it.
  11. Do that again and this is your future. You had me there for a second.
  12. Cool. Glad you found some. Lil buggers are getting hard to find.
  13. Hey Brian, Looks like they will go out tomorrow. Forgot about it being Presidents Day. Didn't figure that out until I got to the DMV for my new registrations for the car and bike. I could of slept in.
  14. Was out wandering around today and as it is Presidents Day everywhere I needed to go was closed. So.... where does a fella end up? The hardware store. I had been looking for a smaller soft tool bag for packing extra tools when out wandering. I saw some decent looking Craftsman 13" bags hanging up on a rack. Pretty HD bag and lots of room. Marked at $11.99. A stock clerk came by while I was looking at them and pulled the price label off and put up a new one. $4.99. Thank you very much, what's the limit? I bought 4 at that price. I don't know if that price is everywhere but just thought I mention it if anybody was looking for a soft tool bag. Handy for all kinds of stuff.
  15. I use a regular 3/8" 18mm deep well. Not hard to find as a single at most hardware stores. Just eyeball the wall for thickness. Most regular sockets are thin enough. Spark plug sockets are not. Best setup for me is the 18mm socket, swivel, short (4"") extention and the ratchet. Perfect fit all the way around. Find a short section of fuel line to stick on the end of the plug stud to get the new plug started again. Remember to try to blow out the area around the plug before removing. A lot if junk manages to drop down into the recess. Not cool when it goes into the hole.
  16. I got these bagged up for ya. And you have a PM.
  17. Hey Brian PM your mailing address. I fix ya up as soon as I find a decent lens. Mike
  18. I was just looking at that yesterday. A while back you had some downloadable files on the VR Assistance group. I can't seem to find a post or where it might be these days. Any advice is welcome. Thanks Mike
  19. Brian, Let me do a little digging on the lens. I think I have a few faded ones stashed away. As far as the chrome grills... how many ya need? Still got some NOS hanging around.
  20. As a matter of fact...... I do. I have the original pad off my '84 from when I changed over to black. This is one of the last pics of it on the bike before the change. I'll see if I can find the box in storage and get some pics of it later if you're interested. Mike
  21. You're probably going to need a 5 to 4 wire convertor for the wiring to work out right. I used this one on my '84. Found this one on Amazon) A plug mount is a nice touch to keep the wiring nice, neat and in control. Off the top of my head I don't recall the color codes on the bike wires but followed the codes off the convertor and used a probe to confirm the connection. Had it all in stalled and hooked up in less than and hour. With NO sparks!!!
  22. :rotf: Ya crack me up Capt. :rotf: But good choices
  23. All depends on your personal preference for the feel of the hand gun once you decide on what caliber you want. I carry a Ruger .45 semiauto but for CCW I'd like a slimmer model. The .40 fit a smaller hand better and don't print as bad. A 9 mm is as about as low caliber as I'd go these days. Stopping power is one thing..... the shooters aim is another. What ever you decide spend time at a range. Find out what the ammo supplies are like in your area to. Been dry supply around here lately. Check out www.gunbroker.com for a decent selection of guns new and used for an idea of current price ranges. Very reliable outfit. Kind of an eBay for guns. Give ya good idea of what's what.
  24. Some threads never die. Why? Because we are all here to support it... forever! I'm always waiting for my next dumb move. Summers coming. It will happen. The time comes when you catch hitting that kill switch before you quit rolling..... just flip it back on. I promise you will have every car around you moving away as fast as possible. Even better if you have Macs or Jardines.
  25. Has it really got this bad? I know there are some older folks trying to suppliment their incomes but.......... Geesh, This seemed a little extreme. http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2013/02/15/ohio-state-fan-pulled-over-sticker-confused-for-marijuana/1923475/?kjnd=vvDSoH2rK1ptZjHUzXFt2BGgrNo0w2LFZyNXtI4bCmXwUkQ0Vv2EEWhW1uPwHuyA-51dca563-721a-43f2-bf9e-8c264a7c3613_FqYfPM%2FXGcMs2omPNC0k111LDGpY5C0yjRWF5PXvc4hBO6KL6h9TNp4I3H8ZgcKI
