  1. This will explain it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46806 It does help, I've done in on mine. But as you have to pull the starter out to do it you're more than half way to putting in a new 4 brush unit. The 4 brush fixes the problem. The things to do: 4 brush unit Upgrade battery cables DEKA AGM Pretty much the best combination to get the best cranking power you can.
  2. Yep, I did. I'm a pirate! Arrrrgggg. I tend to hang onto pics of thing I like the look of. Where's my checkbook? Royalties are due.
  3. Your lead-in made me think of my ex-wife. If any woman needed to be stoned.............
  4. Good point.
  5. Possible that he had the pic(s) on a host site and a having a hangup there?
  6. Dan, I'm so sorry to hear that. She has put up such a strong fight, and so young. My heart goes out to you and your family. Mike
  7. Glad you walked away. Could have gone south fast. Ya done good.
  8. Checked a few. Working ok here. Maybe it is the one ad you're looking at.
  9. I still have these grips that came on the bike when I bought it. Never messed with them as they fit my hands fine. But.... they are showing signs of use and age and will have to replace them eventually. I see a lot of good comments on the Isogrips but never ran across a set to try the fit and feel. Do they fit a big hand well? I got some big paws (a 2xl or 3x glove) and most grips feel too small to be comfortable for a long ride.
  10. You weren't talking about removing the spring suspension altogether were you? Just going rigid? Don't think you'd like that:no-no-no: Some just remove the single short overload leaf for a smoother ride.
  11. OH! Hey Dave!! Hello neighbor!! Well just down the road a bit. First of all what bike you have? (ah never mind. '86 right) If your handy with tools there isn't anything you can't do yourself. If you're on a 1st gen Ican do a bit to help you along. Removing the fairing will help a bunch on installing the brake lines. The fairing isn't all that bad once you know where to start. Would I want to pay a shop to do any of this.... with current shop rates? Oh NOOO! Mike
  12. Ouch! Good to know.
  13. I changed out the stock lights for the HF LED set just to make it quick and simple. They are a huge improvement for the money over what came with the trailer. More money...... more improvement. I'm sure there are more powerfull lights that will work. A couple of guys have added recessed lights into the top of the body for higher light visability. Moving the fender mount license plate to the rear center of the bottom part of the box with some intense white LED's on it will will highlight your rear side also. I'm headed for that idea myself. Not to mention if your state issues the full sized plate the fender mount leaves it in a very low position. I left the overload spring in mine. Sure, the trailer is rated at 600lbs and probably won't ever need them as my max load is expected to be around 200 -225lb range. Rides fine at that load. I got rid of the rattle by just sleeving the rear shackle bolts with a section of heater hose. Got rid of the banging.
  14. I've done my fuse block, added needed relays and did my connections better. Now I feel like taking my sidecutters to the whole thing and starting over. Nice work Kevin.
  15. It is a huge change in the feel from old OEM springs to new Progressives. At first it does feel pretty stiff until you get used to it. As said, go for a ride for a bit and see how it responds. Some have tried 5wt oil (tranny fluid) and lower oil level in the forks. You said you were already at 6 1/2" now so that's a bit above the limit. Don't think another 1/2" lower would make a whole lot of difference.
  16. I've dealt with that myself. I have used the rubber expanding plugs that you insert into the frost plug hole and tighten the bolt to set the plug. Might do the trick for you.
  17. That idea has already been suggested to the person interested. Waiting to see how they respond to that. I've done that before with another member. worked out well.
  18. If I lived closer...........
  19. I've only dealt with shipping a package Canada one time and learned it can be expensive. I've got a 20lb package 42" long and looking for the best way to get this thing headed north at a reasonable rate. From what I've read it still looks like USPS is the most reliable way to ship, but looking at their International shipping web site it come up to $74.80 without adding any insurance fees. Is there a better way to look into? I'm open for advice......... Thanks Mike
  20. Well, ya got to look at it from the bright side. The broken one will be a whole lot easier to remove than a whole one. And you already know how to wiggle the new one in. You're actually ahead of the game.
  21. Hope she is located safe and sound. Thoughts be with you.
  22. I've heard of leaving the remains behind a few times in the past. Never heard of any ill effects. As long as it isn't completely blocking the water jacket.
  23. Welcome back. She's paying bike support right?
  24. No way to be sure until you look about the stator cooling kit. Some have found them already installed when they didn't expect it. I belive many moons ago Yammy issued a service bulletin on that problem. Some were taken care of, some not. Hopefully the second gear problem will not show up for a while. It depends a lot on the way it was ridden by previous owners. My '84 was a one owner bike when I got it at about 30 something thousand miles from a older rider that toured with his wife on it. I'm at almost 68,000 miles now and hasn't popped out yet. If you're strongly mechanically inclined it can be a DIY project. You have to pull the motor and split the case but if you're brave......... A few threads around here on the subject. Been done a few times and a good chance to do some other improvments at the same time. The four brush stater is a good upgrade to start out with. Major improvement in cranking power. As the summer comes on you'll find out why.
  25. Prayers up and away Dan. Thoughts are with you all. Mike
