  1. On man, not the news I was hoping to hear. My heart goes out to all his friends and family. Mike
  2. Couple of early pics of Dingys "Tweety" with the Max treatment. Here is a thread on Dingys latest undertaking. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74692&highlight=tweety
  3. Now depending on how much you want to spend and go to new inner legs there is a company that makes them to order. But for the life of me I can not find or recall the name at the moment. I'm sure somebody will pop in with it.
  4. So you've met my ex.
  5. That's all? Geese, how early you planing on getting there? Wait..... you have all the parts right?
  6. Oh boy. On eBay prices can run all over the place from $50.00 to over $200.00. Then again, it's ebay so you can never be sure of what you might get. Be prepared to do a rebuild with seals and upper and lower bushings and do an upgrade to Progressive springs while you're at it.
  7. It was my first season back on a tour bike after being away from the GW's for a decade or so. I signed up for an ERC and while waiting for that I ordered the Ride Like a Pro DVD. It was helpful to point out the riding methods I'd been away from for so long. I had enough time to get out to a parkng lot and try to put some of the methods into play. That little practice time got me comfortable for the ERC and passed it with no problems. I still review the RLP vids now and then and wander back to the parking lots to keep up with the low speed tricks. Never hurts to be on top of it. (rather than laying beside it) Helpful, yes. Educational, yes. Worth watching. No doubt about it.
  8. Paul. PM sent.
  9. Nobody is gonna hold you having V-Max against you. After all, some of us are still riding that things mama. Same heart, just bigger nads. Looking forward to seeing more of your work when you get the pics worked out. But looks like you put some love into that. You will most likely will cross paths with Dingy and Squeeze. Dingy has some hybrid stuff going on that you will enjoy and then Squeeze.... Well, he's just power crazy.
  10. I can see only one way to cover your tail on this one Dan. Get the number, leave it in plain sight. Tell her you found the number and would she PLEASE call them and see if it's still available. If it is, while she's still on the phone with them ask her to go ahead and set up the deal. Your hands are clean. At worst, an innocent victim. Well, not a great plan but better than nothing.
  11. I found this pic years back and hung onto it just for the wind screen. It strikes me as being massive. It appears to be way over stock height. Is this a Precision model?
  12. When I first started riding again with the Venture I ran across a new pair of Clover Hydros for a fraction of new cost so I grabbed them. One of the best gear purchases I've made. Cordura with mesh vents, a zip in thermal flannel liner and a zip in rain liner. High quality pads for the knees and the hips. Zippers and Velcro on the lower legs. Pretty much year round pants depending on the liners used. In the hottest months I wear long under armour only under them, but still, at 85 - 90 degrees, you still know they are black. Once the sun goes down they can be pretty comfortable. The knees vents help move a little air on the upper legs and I leave the lower leg zippers open to get a little air there. If you're looking for summer only gear I'd say go with the mesh ones that you can wear over under armour, street pants or shorts for more comfort in the heat and slip out of them into street gear.
  13. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
  14. I just got a MS (appearance) one this morning to. Got rid of that one. I was thinking again this morning.
  15. This motor has been around since 1983. Some early issuses were resolved by mid '85. Pretty much the same power plant to current models. The 1200-1300 V4 is a highly reliable and almost bullet proof platform and many running well over 100,000 miles and some over 200,000. The low miles can be a plus or a curse. Bikes that have not been run for years tend to develop their own problems. But like you said, you're planning on a complete rebuild of the bike so you have an idea what is ahead. But for $500.00, I'd snatch in a second if it had not been badly wrecked with a lot damage or just plain neglected to the point of gonna need everything. But if you're handy with the tool box and the bike has all (or the majority) of the parts it's just a project you will enjoy the results of. It's an outstanding bike to own and ride. I see you already have couple of older rides so you're ready to do what needs to be done. Just evaluate what you have have for a starting point. And then again, you got this bunch. Mike
  16. Yeah, but it should put a cork in the 1st Gen smack talk. It's a parts break down.
  17. I hate to say it but from what I've seen the failure rate on the Vizio line appears to be high.. When I was doing my route with Hostess I had a big box store and I was always back in the shipping and receiving area. Never failed, there was always a flatbed cart with several opened and returned Vizio flat screens. I asked the manager one day what the story was and he said they were all returned by customers for failures and being returned to the supplier. Not a good sign.
  18. That one caught me off guard. Wasn't thinking tonight. Looks like no harm done. Scanned, deleted and forwarded to DHL Fraud. Rookie mistake.
  19. If you don't hear from me in while I'm getting cyberscrewed. I got this in an email tonight. As I've been getting and sending a lot of stuff lately I wasn't thinking and hit the tracking page. Then it hit me. D'oh! Googled it and sure enough it loads an EXE.Trojan. I gotta go sweep. Watch for it.... It's ain't friendly. 20. Ok. I'll help with the easy stuff. Foam Toolbox Drawer Liner. Different textures available but the smooth sealed cell foam should work well.
  21. Ok ,the "feeder" tree to all four carbs is easy to see and check for leaks. I think you've done that. The four over flow lines connect to the elbows coming off the top of each of the fuel bowl covers. S you said it only appears to leak when fuel is supplied. If the hose is not seated or cracked at the elbow it may bleed there. But if the line is intact and the needle seat is stuck the over flow line should carry the fuel to under the bike to the ground. So, you said the leak appears to be lower on the carb body I'd suppect the fuel bowl drain fitting it damaged. I've had that on mine. Follow the black drain lines that run through the carb rack support frame to the rear of the bodies. You'll see, or feel the 90 degree plastic fitting for the drain lines. If the fitting is loose, broken or pulling out of the body that is probably your leak. In that case I was assume your drain screw is not seating completly. So the quick test would be run the bike, open the drain screw and see if the fuel comes out the hose or down the back of the carb. Not the safest test. But it will tell you real quick.
  22. Good to hear about the call back Paul, Hope you get the fuel problem figured out.
  23. Yeah, what he said. Looking good.
  24. Yeah. It was so primitive. We'd leave a note on a friends bike with a place and time on it. We'd do the same other friends bikes. We would show up and have a bonfire, drink some beers and BS all night about bikes. We tried the new technology by calling on the phone but usually there was no answer. They were out riding. Technology was so unreliable back then. But wait,,,,,,, we still do the same thing only use the Internet to let everybody know where to be. We still burn wood, drink beers and BS all night. Oh yeah, we are modern men.
  25. And it's blue and look who the first one in line is!!! Yammer has a thing for blue. As a matter of fact I do to. Nice looking ride. But glad you joined up and going to be hanging around for a while. We are holding our own against the 2nd gen crowd and glad to have the support. Just follow Yammer. He's on the front lines. We may be getting old, but we be fast! And I agree with what you said. This is an outstanding bunch of folks and thank you. Mike
