  1. Makes you wonder if when a HD rider goes down if there is a rider on the insurance that covers "Wardrobe".
  2. Ok, wild guess here. But the only larger clip I can think of in that area would be one on the headlight adjustment assembly. There is a flange on the bottom end of the headlight adjustment rod that has a clevis pin through it and is held in place by that type of clip. Would be a bit larger than a brake pad pin clip. That clip may be too big for that. But knowing how far one of those clips can jump.......
  3. That light can idicate a number of failures and even low fuel. A common reason is the battery probe is showing low water in the battery if it is a wet cell OR if the battery has been replaced with one that has no way to plug the probe in like a sealed cell AGM or Gel. . Look at your battery. Is there a wire that looks like it plugs into one of the cell caps? If not the probe is missing. This thread can show you how to build a bypass for that to turn the light off. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=489
  4. I'm glad to see this go the way it did. The media poisioned the case from day one. I wonder how many Police Departments are on alert tonight.
  5. Yep, second stop after the fuel pump at the gas station was the air compressor. My daughter is a natural magnet for flat tires so I've got her trained for being prepared for that. She's been prepared for a while with a plug kit (and knows how to use it) and her own 12v compressor for a long time. She's can change a tire faster than any woman I've known. She's changed quite a few. And yea, buckets, center console and even "T" topped. It's going to take some serious work. Motors starting to blow some oil and rear seal was begining to leak. Body wise, well....... let me put it this way. If you put something in the trunk make sure it's bigger that a shoe box. And don't drive through any deep puddles. Body is the redeeming factor as it was straight, but surface rust was having it's effect. It' was starting to have a lot of electrical problems so that kept me busy when she would stop by. It's gonna need some love no doubt. I've seen worse come back from the dead but ya know..... :mo money:
  6. Just another illuminating adVenture in motorcycle maintenance.
  7. Consider me sufficiently slapped. Being a 1st gen guy I have no answer. Hope V7Goose sees the post. Should have worn my brilliantpants today. My smarteepants didn't cut it.
  8. I really, really hope he found one by now. That thread was from 2007.
  9. Get the most out of the new stator. Yep.
  10. Open holster. Only way to go. No questions. No doubt. No guessing.
  11. I have never run across anything that applies directly to the problem of sensor delays but this is what I have fallen back on for the times I have been pulled over for the left turn after not getting a light change after a conciderable delay at an intersection. It states that in the case of traveling on a one way street (which in both my cases it was an off ramp, so in effect a one way street) onto another one way street. This is where I stretch my luck as every time I have done this it has been a four lane seperarted highway. In effect, with a lil stretch of the imagination I am turning left onto a one way street (across another one way street). When stopped I have explained my actions and the reason for doing so regarding the light delay and how long I waited until there was NO traffic coming from any direction. No reason the be arguementitive, just explain what I have read and understand to be acceptable in that situation. So far the opinions of the LEO's involved have been in my favor. Not going to say it works with all of them and everywhere else but a reasonable, educated explaintion does hold water with most of them. I had a rule of thumb for all the years I spent doing the OTR travels. I had plenty of chances to meet all sorts of LEO's for all sorts of reasons, most of them my own danged doing. Thing was to leaving them laughing. Walked away from quite a few tickets over those years by just keeping stuff light, open and friendly. Nebraska Codes. 10.14.220 Turns Restricted at Intersections With Automatic Signals. Except as otherwise provided in this section, it shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle to turn such vehicle at any intersection where an automatic traffic signal is installed and actually functioning, except when such signal is displaying a green light. Except where a traffic control device is in place prohibiting a turn, the operator of a vehicle facing a steady red signal may cautiously drive his vehicle into the intersection to make a right turn after stopping. Such operator shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection. Except where a traffic control device is in place prohibiting a turn, the operator of a vehicle traveling on a one-way street facing a steady red signal may, after stopping, cautiously drive such vehicle into the intersection to make a left turn onto another one-way street on which all traffic is moving to said vehicle’s left. Such operator shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within the adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection. And this stuff is pretty well dated. (Ord. 18659 §7; December 19, 2005: prior Ord. 17666 §3; May 1, 2000: Ord. 15634 §22; July 9, 1990: P.C. §10.32.190: Ord. 12552 §1; April 9, 1979: Ord. 5699 §719; July 12, 1954).
  12. I got to go with "C" simply for this reason. I like the trianglelated light pattern. I run the Triangle pattern with my head light and driving lights and am convinced that pattern does create a more visible look. As you are only using these for run/brake having the new lights too close to the turn signals my cause a distration from the turn light if the new LED's are rather intense. But the higher is better is a valid point.
  13. To all of the above. Morgan,
  14. Still trying to sell the Lincoln to my ex. Wait, you said friend. Never mind.
  15. Wouldn't expect anything less from that bunch. Nope.
  16. Never gave it much thought as I'm pretty happy with the handling on my '84 with the Progressives and Condor Brace and I push the bike pretty hard sometimes. I'd have to say installing one might be a bit of a challenge with the fairing and cowling pieces around the neck and tree area without some serious changes. Be watching to see what you end up with.
  17. Clean and lube the drive shaft with Moly grease. Break down the rear drive on the output side and remove the rubber buffer to clean and lube the pins for that. A dried dirty one creates some odd clicking noises. If you have the rear wheel off you're half way there already. Remove, clean and inspect the bolt for the side stand pivot. Don't over tighten it. Change the rear drive gear oil. And there are a few other things....
  18. Had to throw this in. Hope it handles better on slick winter roads than the Olds did. The AWD should help. I hope.
  19. Well, it looks like it's a done deal. My daughter now owns an Infinity Q45. Went over yesterday and checked the battery before trying to start it. Still showed a full charge and my meter showed it at 95% power after sitting for almost 20 hours. Did Flyinfools draw test and found no problem. Fired right up just fine. Went over the car a bit more and only found a couple of things to deal with. Minor stuff. The remote entry fob don't work. Probably a dead battery in that. No big deal if it don't. Found out the alarm system work just fine. Every other control and switch works as it should right down the seat setting memory. Even the spare tire donut looks like it's never been mounted and the jack didn't even have a scratch on it. The car has had a good life. The only wear in the interior is some on the drivers door armrest and a little on the drivers seat on the edge of the backrest. Gotta look for that spot. Havng owned cars with sun roofs I always have concerns. While my daughter was in Norfolk with it she drove in some serious heavy rain storms and saw no leaks. I checked the power tracks in the roof and it didn't look like there had ever been water getting in. Better than my Mark VI did. Motorized shower stall that one. Talking to the owner he asked me if I found any concerns. Had to laugh. Other than worn wiper blades and one hood lift support felt weak I couldn't find much. Told me to go ahead and replace them and bring him the receipts and he'll cover them along with the battery and the parts I used yesterday. My daughter did the heavy work. She checked the radio and CD system. Watching her I think she checked every speaker in the car for volume and sound quality. I saw her slip in a Meatloaf CD and from the grin on her face I only assume the test drive we took last night was done to "Bat out of Hell." I can't hear so I have to take her word for it that there are no rattles, squeaks or banging noises. Damn car rides and handles better than my Towncar. We stopped to top off the tank from about a half. She was laughing when the pump kicked off at $17.00. (I need to check on the tank size. LOL!) She usually put $30.00 in the Olds at a half. She said she got about 20 MPG when she drove it to Norfolk last week. That's about double what the Olds got on a bad day. Less painful for her with the miles she puts on driving to work every week. The owner and his boys had the Olds surrounded as we were leaving. They looked as happy as my daughter with their new toy. So the kid is happy. She's even talking about waxing it. Weird. Never happend before. She couldn't understand why rain beaded up on my car and not hers. She sent a text this morning that the car started fine and was headed to work. I'm betting money she'll take the long way around today. So one less problem to deal with, one less worry about the kid. I'm liking the grin on her face. So that should be the end of the story that started when she came to see me and said those words no father wants to hear..... "Dad, I may have found a free car." Well in her mind yeah, but as about as close as you can get. Not a bad trade at all.
  20. Had that converstion a couple of times last year. There are several highway intersection here where traffic is almost dead at certain times of day and night and the road sensors don't pickup on the bike at all. The last time it was a State Trooper sitting directly cross from me on the other side of the 4 lane doing paperwork on the shoulder. We both knew the other was there. I shut off the bike right in the middle of the lane, put down the kickstand and lit up a smoke. No traffic either way for two lights. Got off and opened the trunk and got a drink of water from my cooler. Still no traffic. Fired the bike back up and checked traffic again and made the left turn on the red. Didn't take but about a half mile before he pulled me over. Asked for the paper work and why I turned left on the on red. Had to snicker. "You did see me sitting there right?" yep, he did. Like you I explained what I had understood as being acceptable in that situation. He just grinned and said that's fine. I asked him in his opinion if I would have been better off to turn right and go down the road a ways and make a U turn and go back. He just laughed and said "No, that would be illegal. Have a nice day." I think they just want to make sure we are paying attention. Me..... I just wanted to test the process.
  21. I've been watching this and limited myself to one remark. I have my own opinion due to the behavior of the local pedal pushers. So I've been good. But, I'm going to say this. I'm not a lawyer, not even close but I'd been involved with transportation safety for over a decade working with lawyers in defending drivers, management and the companies after accidents of all kinds including trucks, buses, cars, motorcycles, horses, pigs, cows and yes....... pedal pushers. Here's the thing. You guys are good people. I haven't met you in person but it shows here. The fact alone that you're concerned about the guy that ran into you shows you care. Makes me glad to know folks like you. But...... from what I've seen and learned in these lawsuits is its best to not make contact with the other party after the incident is over. Sounds cold hearted don't it? So much stuff gets turned around if it ends up in a legal process. You call the guy and and say something like "we regret this happened", "hope you're ok", "didn't see you coming", "wish we could have avoided it" all get twisted to the party that got hurt from their own negligence being the victim. They turn it into an apology from you. A simple statement of concern like "Sorry you got hurt" turns into an admission of guilt and puts holes in some of the best slam dunk, not at fault all cases I've seen. The insurance companies settling to avoid a lawsuit are bad enough. Don't allow yourself to put words into the others mouth in the process. Remember who ran into you. A lawyer. Be careful what you say. So good luck and hope the guy realizes he's patch short of a repair kit on a bike and takes the bus from now on. and change.
  22. Had a deal go south on me back in the 70's for a Panhead rigid with a springer front end. But I knew the guy, a coworker was selling it. He had about 10 grand in it with the paint, chrome, engraving and paint. Nice street and show bike. He was going to sell it for $8,500. He told me I could have it for $6,500. Off I went to gather the funds. Took a few days and I called him and told him to hang on to it I was still a couple grand short. He said he would let it go to me for $5,000 if I had the cash. I said I'd be over on Saturday. I could scrape up another $500.00 by then. Showed up Saturday with cash and a grin ready to ride it off. He just shook his head and said he sold it the night before. I asked him if he got more money for it or what. Nope, he let if go for $2,500 bucks. I had to ask WHY???. The wifes lawyer called. Couldn't blame the guy. But dang man..........
  23. From a cold start in the morning before I even crank it I flip the choke to full and right back off. Pops right off. About half choke for a couple minutes to let it smooth out and that's it. After that first squirt in the morning it's good for the day.
